More off-topic banter..."please may I have another."

Is it a boys' basketball team or boys basketball team?  Boys don't possess the team...just an adj, right?  I am in the minority to think possession lacks and have been unable to be convinced otherwise.

Thoughts?  Thanks.

you left out the word "sir"

I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

Isn't it "Thank you sir, may I have another"  ...?

Is anyone going to be at this event that can post an eyewitness scouting report?

And along similar lines, does anyone have access to the Deerfield summer league schedule and/or plans to head up there in the foreseeable future?

Thanks, Mark. I'll be out of town next week but hopefully I'll be up there in July.

I'll try to get over to The Shirk tomorrow and check out the IBCA All-Star games.  Stay tuned.

On another topic, guess we have to give King James and the Heat their due, grudging congrats on winning the NBA Finals.  Looks like the Thunder will be in the mix for a long long time with all that young talent.

IWU campus pretty quiet, with the Quad in a big big muddy mess due to the construction for the new classroom building.  Only folks around campus just now seem to be some special teacher training events and the summer cello camp (an us bookworms in Ames Library).  The admissions tours just keep coming and coming and coming . . . into Ames every single day, often several tours in a day.   A good sign, lots of interest in IWU, always.

Hope everyone is having a good summer, enjoying summer's charms.   Baseball fully front and center now . . . my Yanks have had a good run of late and now back into their rightful place at 1st place in their division.  Took some time, but order has now been restored as the Orioles fade and the Red Sox are basement-dwellers.  Life is good, . . .  A good summer.    :)

More on IBCA later on . . .

Here is an article that quotes former Wisconsin AD, Pat Richter, who explains why the Badgers dropped baseball.  As usual, money was the real reason, not Title IX.

And yet... could it have been that the money problem was caused by Title IX...?

Mark, since almost nobody in central Illinois was a White Sox fan (allegiances were roughly 50-50 between Cubs and Cards, so the AL was wide open!), as an insecure kid in the 1950s I too was a Yankees fan (when you're insecure it is especially nice to have your team win nearly every year - though I truly was a fan of Mickey, Yogi, Whitey, and especially an obscure backup catcher named Johnny Blanchard).  But I grew out of it! 8-)

How can a good Illinois/Hong Kong guy root for the 'Evil Empire?! :o

Since I've now lived in Michigan for over 2/3 of my life (so far ;)), I root for the Detroit Pussycats/Tigers (name depends on the year ;)); they seem to be finally righting the ship and headed for knocking the Yankees out of the playoffs yet again! ;D

As they do pretty much every year they make the playoffs. :D

Why don't you answer your own question with a detailed explanation?

I don't necessarily have a detailed explanation. I'm struggling with my own comment on a few levels.

I understand the heart behind Title IX. Women/girls were not getting the same opportunities as men/boys. Title IX provided them with that opportunity.

My comment implied that, due to the "stretching" or expansion of athletic department budgets across both men's and women's athletic programs, it caused financial trouble for the university, because they were mandated to expand their women's sports programs. Thus, they can't run the baseball program... because they need to spend their

What I don't like about my comment is the fact that it makes it look like I care about Badger baseball over all other women's sports or that in some way I don't like women's sports in general. And that's just not true.

But... the gist of my comment was that they used to have enough money for baseball, but now (or then, rather) that they have to fund the women's programs, they don't have enough budget left for the baseball.
