North Park will have a graduate assistant on the staff this season, Sean Connor. He's coached locally on the AAU level, so he should be a real asset on the recruiting front for the Park.

NPU has added one transfer thus far with whose name I can go public. He's Maxwell Morgan, a 6'3 junior out of Lincoln (NE) Northeast HS by way of Rochester (MN) Community College. He's mostly played the two wing positions, but he has the wingspan, athleticism, and versatility to play inside as well if need be.

The NPU coaching staff is still working on several more possible transfers, and with the start of classes coming up on August 27 I should have more news soon about that (knock on wood).

Not the first time a Lincoln Northeast alum has been associated with the CCIW.........................

North Central ass't coach Mitch Raridon, a former Cardinal player and 2009 graduate, was a former Lincoln Northeast Rockets player, and a member of the Class of 2005.  8-)

He's not the first bugeater to play basketball for North Park, either. Seems like I remember the Vikings having a center out of Millard West HS in Omaha about a dozen years ago. Some big lug named Burke or Boogie or Barkley, or something like that. ;)

Augustana goes two-for-two on the Summer League circuit this year, winning championships at the Pepsi League in Rock Island and the Joy of the Game League in Deerfield.

Sounds like an interesting finish at Deerfield last night. After Wash U gave Augie its first loss in the double-elimination tournament (Augie had beaten them in the winners' bracket final), the Bears decided not to play the winner-take-all game, so Vikes win.

With some of the veterans dinged up with injuries, the youngsters really played well for both teams this summer.

Double elimination brackets not a great idea for basketball.

Yeah, but if you've paid a fee for x number of games, and one or more teams drop out, a double-elimination format is a nice way to make sure that people get all the games that they've paid to play.

I was wondering where Mysliewiec was going to end up. While I thought that it would be another MIAA school or a WHAC school, Elmhurst seems like a logical choice, too. Mark Scherer's brought in a number of Michigan kids during his tenure at EC.

The Deerfield Joy Of The Game League is sold as a nine game package. However, with only a 7 game "regular" season schedule, that necessitated an all teams make the playoffs, double elimination playoff format.
In the 18 team league, 4 teams finished with 6-1 records--Augie, North Central 1, Wash U, and Kunkel (independent).
It should be noted that Wash U is most often Wash U in name only as they usually have 2, 3, or maybe 4 actual Wash U players each season. Their other players are people they know from other schools, and some of those other players are often D2 kids from schools like Rollins. I think a couple of Wheaton players have also played with the Wash U's.
It does seem very strange that as long as they were already there, the Wash U's wouldn't play one more game on the final night. Maybe it was after cerfew.  :)

*It should be noted that North Central did not participate in the playoffs, having left for Italy on Aug 2nd.

AUGIE RECRUITS---Griffin Pils is going to have to learn how to dribble/drive without the horizontal extension of his left arm across his body like a shield, and the subsequent pushoff. This was very noticeable this summer, and you can bet opposing coaches are going to call it to the refs attention. Augie also had a 6'5" or so red haired kid who looked good. Good rebounder, quick feet, can hit from outside or drive inside, I think this may be Motzel, but I'm not sure.

It seems like Mark Scherer is becoming the CCIW transfer/short-term rental specialist. A couple of years ago he brought in a former Carthage player for one season, and last year did the same thing with Jerome Robinson, bringing him in from Lewis with one season of eligibility remaining. This year he will have 4 jr college transfers, along with 2 kids who will be at their 3rd school in 3 years.  :D

You can also bet that Grey Giovanine will teach him how to turn it into a less-noticeable, but still effective, art form. (see: Carstens, Drew) ;)

Brandon Motzel, from Carmel up in the far north suburbs. He drew quite a bit of recruiting interest, from what I've been told.

Save your indignation for when NPU's final newbie list is announced, Mark, because the Vikings will likely have plenty of incoming transfers as well. And I suspect that at least one of the players whom the Vikings coaches are currently wooing has multiple schools already listed on his transcript. NPU has always been a school that embraces transfers (whether they're athletes or not), and it will continue to be that kind of school. So if anybody else wants to post in high dudgeon about CCIW programs using transfer student-athletes, get in before the rush and scold North Park about it now, before the list even comes out.

Oh, and I'm not particularly pleased with the use of the term "rental" to describe a transfer, either.

Single elimination bracket. First round losers play in a single elimination consolation bracket. Done and done.

If there is any indignation to be saved, I sense it is you, Greg, that needs to do so.
If you will examine the wording of my post a little more closely, you will notice that it reads CCIW transfer/short-term rental specialist. I purposely used the slash (/) between transfer and short-term rental to differentiate a jr college transfer from a kid with one year of eligibility remaining. Especially one who has already been at 3 different schools. My use of the term rental stems from the well known terminology regularly used by sportswriters and sportscasters alike to describe a free-agent signee who is likely to be with a team for only a single season (as with a college player with one year of eligibility remaining) before moving on again. You've both read it in the paper, and heard it on TV and radio time and time again. It is very characteristic of our everyday sports language, and an accurate description of this type of situation.
Junior college transfers are something we regularly see, but bringing in a college player that we know in advance will be with the team for 1 year only, is a much less common occurrence, and one that can accurately be described as a "rental" situation as defined by our common vernacular.

North Central has had two "rentals" in the last five years: Jeremy Williams & Kyle Julius, who was on his fifth school in five years.

Yes indeed they did.
More precisely, five years ago Jeremy Williams played in 14 games before being injured, and Kyle Julius very unfortunately appeared in 9 games before disappearing three years ago.
No such player 2 years ago, again last year, nor 2 this coming season.
I'm not personally fond of this type of arrangement as far as trying to build a team. Accordingly, I'm glad it hasn't occurred again at NC. But I'm also not a coach, so my opinion doesn't matter. I'm sure there are others who both share my opinion and disagree with it.
