By the way, any more scrimmages in the works for any of the squads prior to the start of the season?  I need a fix.

Rockford College at Wheaton Saturday night 6pm.

Thought this was an interesting list of the best schools for student athletes in all divisions. Wheaton came in at #66.

My congrats to our two NCC comrades, Raridon and Gamble, for their pre-season All-American accolades from D3hoops.com.

Q is just in his "middle years" now, not even approaching a curmudgeonly status or phase.  I think only Ypsi and myself on this board from greenieland can qualify for age-related disabilities.

As to Sodemann, that's a bad break.  Hope he recovers, heals quickly.  I did work as a poll-watcher at Hansen Center all day yesterday, watching the massive turnout of B/N citizens and IWU students, doing their civic duty.  Glad to say quite a few IWU athletes were amongst the voters, so I picked up a few tidbits of news.  Seems Zimmer and Heyen are pretty much back to working out this week, and Molinari not too too far behind, so Ron Rose may have some returnees from the injured list, just as he has added Sodemann to the gimpy ones.  Good to have depth.  Perhaps this will push him further and further into using Eric Dortch at the 2 in some situations and hoping there will be enough scoring from the post area and from the treyball skills of the PGs, Overstreet, Nelms and perhaps Dolan.  We shall see, as the pre-season countdown continues and the injured reserve list hopefully gets shorter.

I'm pretty sure Sodemann's injury very much brings into Dortch into the picture at the 2...at least until Brady Zimmer is ready to go.  Dortch will be like no 2 I can ever think of at Illinois Wesleyan -- can't make a 3-pointer but a tremendous athlete, good slasher, and lock-down perimeter defender.

I'm interested to see what direction Ron Rose goes now at the 2 - lots of combinations and options still.  6-3 Dan Oswald (Sr) and 6-6 Mike Mayberger (Jr) have to very much be in the picture now too.

Definitely a lot of backcourt adversity in the early going for the Titans.

Kudos to NCC dudes Derek Raridon and Landon Gamble on being named to the pre-season All-American team.

*THREE All-American players will be on display in an early season game when North Central  plays host to Nate Snuggerud and his Hope teammates on the evening of Nov 17th.  8-)

If IWU goes with...

PG - Dylan Overstreet, 6-3 So
SG - Eric Dortch, 6-3 Jr
SF - Andrew Ziemnik, 6-4 Jr
PF - Victor Davis, 6-5 Jr
C - Kevin Reed, 6-6 Sr

...it would be the most physical IWU starting lineup I can remember. Lots of questions with that lineup, but extremely physical.  Quite frankly, it would look a lot more like a Coach G Augie lineup than something you'd expect from Illinois Wesleyan.

Intrigued by what that mix would look like.

iwu70

Q, totally agree, a different look Titan array with Dortch at the 2.  Doubt if that lineup will go on for long if others return from injury.  Dortch's rotation time, more likely to be spent more at the 3 than the 2, in my view.  I'd vote for Os to get his chance and play some major minutes at the 2 as well, in the pre-CCIW season phase.  Sure hope Zimmer can get / be healthy and really show us what he has at the 2 in due course.  If Os and Mayberger are healthy, as they appear to be, knees holding up, then they may get some extra floor time in the first 4-6 weeks of the season.  If all these guys get/stay healthy, Rose has so many many options at PG = Overstreet, Molinari, Nelms, Dolan . . . and at the 2 = Zimmer, Sodemann, Dortch, Oswald and Mayberger.  Most of these guys are unproven in regular full-season CCIW minutes, but lots and lots of talent there in various forms and styles.

Let's hope Coach Rose doesn't take on a Coach G style and starting tossing jackets into the bleachers of Shirk Center faithful sitting behind the Titan bench.  Trost maybe, Rose not so much.

IMHO.

Thanks for the scrimmage scoops.  What a great board.  Love the next few months!

Don't have a problem with either being named -- but I would have put Gamble on the higher team

Just read the Wheaton BBall preview up on the site (forgive me if this has been covered, I have been embroiled in the football boards for the last couple months) and thought this quote from Mike Schauer interesting:

Schauer says of what to expect from his squad this season, "This team will probably score more easily than it will stop people. Younger guys just don't defend as well as older guys." He adds, "The biggest concern is that we are inexperienced in the post. Nate Haynes is really the only returning forward who has played any minutes in college. Our ability to defend the post, rebound the ball and score in the post are all things that will be a work in progress."

IWU's final scrimmage is Sunday @ Hanover.

Having traveled to Hanover a few times I can say that it's a long ass drive for a real game, let alone a scrimmage.
