And we've touched upon a third issue here over the past couple of days, which is that NCC is not getting what it needs to get from the point guard position if it wants to get deep into the post-season.

I think this is a really big question about North Central right now.  For anyone interested, here is the On-Demand video link for the IWU/NCC game: http://client.stretchinternet.com/client/iwu.portal#.  Just look at how IWU guarded the PGs...and how that allowed the Titans to help down low so much easier than when guarding a PG who can shoot the basketball.

It's a lot easier to guard a team - even one as talented as NCC at the 3/4/5 spots - when one of the five guys on the floor can't shoot the basketball.

CCIW Champs says IWU NEVER benefits from injured players on other teams. Was he being sarcastic? Was he being funny?
Champs, all teams have injuries during the year, don't you think every team that played IWU early in the season benefitted. Of IWU top 5 guards, 4 couldn't play due to injuries. They started the season starting with a 2 guard that never played guard before. The first 2 guards off the bench were freshman.
Injuries happen, would IWU be undefeated if they were injury free all year, would they be ranked #1, maybe, maybe not. Would Wheaton, having its full roster, beat IWU, NCC if injury free wins Saturday? Maybe, maybe not.
And to be clear, injury free or not, IWU played poorly, in the games they lost, so I don't think they would be undefeated. And I'm not taking anything away from the teams that beat IWU, they were better.

Just busting his chops for his comments regarding IWU's win over Wheaton a few weeks ago.

Right - the other thing I noticed - double team or traps on the perimeter so easy because you did not have to worry about PG putting one up

Really interested and hoping to see Wheaton do the same in defending NCC.  Definitely a smart move by Rose.  Wheaton traditionally prefers to pressure every position out to the perimeter regardless of whether or not the offensive player is 6'8" and only has range extending to 5 feet from the hoop.

I have an update on Mark Holmes. Despite what John Weiser reported on Wednesday evening, Mark doesn't have a knee injury. He has turf toe, an injury that he suffered late in last Saturday's game when he collided with Charlie Rosenberg while going for a loose ball in front of the NPU student section.

I could give an update on his current condition, but I'm not particularly interested in helping Grey Giovanine do his job. Does that make me a bad person? ;)

If the season ended today Augie would be the 4th seed in the CCIW tourney by reason of beating Carthage in Kenosha. However, the season does not end today, so it looks like a dead heat in the final seven games between Augie and Carthage for the last spot. IWU, NCC and Wheaton are clearly the top three at this half way point but lots of time left to change that dynamic in the second half of the conference season, particularly with the ever present threat of injuries to key players.

Wheaton beat Augie, Augie beat Carthage, Carthage beat Wheaton...that's a wash.  Carthage has a win against North Central that the other two don't have.  Carthage would be in right now.  I believe Wheaton would be outside looking in because Augie beat Carthage.

No doubts about the outcome of this one. The game to see tonight is NC @ Wheaton. Unfortunately, the game is @Wheaton,so I'll just follow live stats and watch North Carolina NC State from the comfort of home.:)

Does this IWU team remind anyone of some of the Hanover teams of 5-10 years ago?  Just deep, balanced and very good rebounders?

Definitely a lot of similarities there.  The 2004-05 Hanover team had...

G - Matt Moore, 6-0/185 Sr - 11.3 ppg, 4.6 rpg, 3.1 apg
G - Nate Minyard, 6-0/160 Jr - 8.0 ppg, 2.6 rpg, 2.8 apg
F - Ben Lye, 6-4/205 Jr - 12.4 ppg, 6.9 rpg
F - Ryan Lanning, 6-6/205 Sr - 6.9 ppg, 2.0 rpg
F - Tommy Dennis, 6-5/220 Sr - 8.5 ppg, 5.9 rpg

G - Brian Chrin - 11.5 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 2.3 apg

http://www.heartlandconf.org/sports/mbkb/stats_archive/2004-05/HC.HTM

Like IWU's team this year, that Hanover team had...

* No one superstar player but a bunch of very good players
* Interchangeable parts - positions didn't really matter, they could basically just stick 5 guys on the floor and they play whatever position
* Great scoring balance
* Physical toughness
* Rebounding tenacity

Pretty fair comparison.

I'm pretty sure my old phone (with the great internet plan) won't let  me watch, but thanks for the info anyway. We be sure to make the NC/IWU rematch however.

The question might be, did playing Gamble, Tinkis against IWU cost them tonight. Hindsight, maybe not.
Big picture, get them healthy for the NCAA tourney. That loss will not hurt they pool C chances. That's if they don't win the conference, naturally.

Boxscore - http://www.elmhurstbluejays.com/boxscore.aspx?path=mbball&id=1618

* Kevin Reed: 11 pts, 16 reb
* Victor Davis: 14 pts, 3 reb, 2 assists
* Pat Sodemann: 12 pts, 4 reb, 2 assists
* Dylan Overstreet: 10 pts, 3 assists

The Titans played without their CCIW play leading scorer Brady Zimmer (15 ppg).  Minor back injury I think.

IWU is now 8-0 in the league.
