No doubt the rotation narrows, becomes more specialized in these games, with key guys being asked to play maximum minutes, if possible or needed.

Media timeouts have been the primary reason IWU's rotation has been narrower in the tournament.  As long and frequent as those breaks are, there is much less need to spell a player simply for reasons of fatigue.  So, for example, where Bryce Dolan might normally play PG for maybe 7 minutes per game for Overstreet, those minutes really aren't needed now.

Having media timeouts definitely has an impact.  In general terms I think they help a team without a lot of depth, and hurt a deep team like IWU.

In 2005-06 at the Lawrence sectional, I remember media timeouts really helping IWU.  In the Elite 8 vs run-and-gun Puget Sound, the Titans really benefited from those regular stoppages.  There was one late in that game, with the Loggers making a run, where the Titans were just gassed.

For my own clarification, are you commenting on this because the CCIW plays without media timeouts or because there are added ones for the tournament?  The WIAC has medias at the 16 min and 8 min mark of each half I know.  Is the CCIW different for conference games?

The CCIW does not have media timeouts. Just 6 timeouts per team per game (4 Full Timeouts, and 2 Thirty Second Timeouts)

Forgive me if this was previously covered as I am a bit slow, but congratulations to the D3hoops.com All-Region team and in particular to COY Mike Schauer as well as other Thunder players Tyler Peters (1st Team) and Nathan Haynes (3rd Team).

Other CCIW participants include:

NCC: Derek Raridon (1st team, POY), Landon Gamble (1st team)
IWU: Andrew Ziemnik (2nd Team), Dylan Overstreet (3rd Team)
Augie: Ben Ryan (rookie of the year)

Looked up exact dimensions of a college basketball court. I believe that Court at NCC doesn't fit these within these guidelines.
The difference is the room behind the backboard, and the baseline to the free throw line.
Baseline to backboard has to be 4 feet. Thus making baseline to free throw line 18 ft 10 inches to front of line. Unless NCC has change the hanging baskets, I'm thinking those measurements are not correct.
If indeed they are not correct, I would have to believe NCC will have to bring in portable baskets to comply with the rules. But then, by moving the backboard, none of the other lines would be correct.
Is the gym down the street open this weekend??
Like I said, they might have corrected this, but I know there used to be way to much room behind the backboard.

And One, thanks for the info on seating....now can someone tell us about the other important matter?   What kind of concessions will be available?  Will there just be the soda, chips, and candy, or will other food be available.   Can food be brought in?

Mr. Ypsi

In the women's final four, UWW downs Amherst in OT, DePauw downs Willams.  Good.  Now if NESCAC can lose at least 2 of 3 tomorrow in the men's! ;D

I actually have nothing against the NESCAC in general - they just have such HUGE geographical advantages over any teams in these parts of the country.  They were separated so well that theoretically the national finals in both genders could have been all NESCAC teams!  Can anyone even conceive of that happening for the CCIW (or WIAC)?!

[Actually, I now see that Wheaton could have met the winner of NCC/IWU in a theoretical national final; quite unusually for the men's bracket.]

The concession tent area near the NW corner looks too small for more than just the basics. I would strongly doubt whether outside food would be allowed in. This is a question I'm sure has never been raised before, but I cannot imagine the mess that might result if fans were allowed to bring in outside food, and the clean up job that might be required as a result. NCC doesn't have that many custodial/maintenance personnel on staff. I have some game related chores to do tomorrow, but if I can get ahold of the AD tomorrow morning, I'll post any clarifying info I learn. If I have to bet, I'd say just snacks, and no outside grub. I can recommend some close by places that are both pretty quick and pretty inexpensive for either before of after the game if you want.

Yes, WW really pulled one out in the women's semis over Amherst.  A great game in OT.  I expected DP to win and they did, but a pretty close, hard-fought game with Williams.  The east coast teams in this tourney are obviously quality teams.  But, Midwest reins over "back east" in these semis this time.   I have DP winning it all and going undefeated for the season.  What a run.  We'll see tomorrow.  Congrats to Amherst and Williams on fine, fine seasons, as usual.

AndOne, thanks for all the stat comparisons.  Very useful and interesting.  I expect the RB and TO battles to be the keys to tomorrow's game as I expect both teams to shoot it well and execute their normal schemes, routines.  Will be a very physical game, so how the game is called could also be a factor.  FTs down the stretch often crucial.

IWU sold alot of tickets in Bloomington and more to come from the Chicago area, so I 'd expect a pretty good Titan nation crowd there for the CCIW rubber match, berth in the Elite 8-trip to Salem game.  Great time of year to be a D3hoops fan.

As far as eating inside the Hanger, there is a lot of extra room between the backboard and the baseline

Now that is funny!  ;D

First let me say, I know IWU can win tonight, and I think they will. But I also know that it might not go that way.
Either way, I won't use the fact that the court's setup is not in line with all the other courts that teams in the NCCA play on, as an excuse for not winning.
The fact that there has not been an argument from any NCC posters, prove that indeed the layout does not fit into the guidelines in which the court should be laid out. Would the NCCA do anything if the rims were only 9ft. 10 in.

My issue isn't with NCC, it's more with the NCCA. They write rule books bigger than most novels. The NCCA has a rule about everything. They make it a point to let the host school know  that they are in charge, it's their gym.

I just don't think the NCCA really cares. The D-3 tourney cost them money, but they should still make sure that all schools that wish to host an event has a court that is set up like it is supposed to be. What they are saying is, some rules do not matter, and that's not right.

NCC deserves to host, no argument here on that, but if they want to host, they should get their gym set up like it says in the rule book. They have a good program going now, maybe they like it different from all the rest of the courts, maybe they like the advantage of the other team not being used to all the extra room behind the backboard, but just maybe they shouldn't be able to host a NCCA tourney either.

Looking toward to watching the game tonight, I'm betting the players couldn't care less about the gym or the seating. These two teams just like banging on each other.
