Number 1 sign the CCIW has gone crazy:

Millikin has only three wins - all three are against top-half teams!

Forgot to add:

Number 2 sign the CCIW has gone crazy:

North Park has only two wins - both are against Millikin!

EVERYONE in the pick-ems who is above 50% should receive an award!

After all these years, I am seeing a major evolutionary change!

Augie fans are becoming "more thin skinned" than the greenies!!!!

(They backed IN!!!)

sac

"Backing in" as phenomenon only happens on the final day of a competive season.

Augie still has two more games to clinch it outright, and they still would have had two more games if IWU had won.

Stat

Sac, I agree.

Also, I stand to be corrected:

Major regression stage rather than evolutionary.

Even the d3 hoops Top 25 is great, it doesn't mean a thing to the regional committee. I assume the 2nd regional rankings will be announced tomorrow. I think it's probable that the Midwest league will have 2 of the top 3 and maybe the top 2 as Carroll is 19-2 overall and I think 17-2 in region. Regarding Pool C bids, the Midwest Region could have 7 AQs counting Wash. U. if it wins the UAA automatic ( I think the Northern IL league still gets a Pool A bid this year, right?). 59 divided by 8 regions is about 7.5 teams per region. This is new territory this year with the added Pool C bids. I don't think anyone really knows what the selection gurus will do. But I can hear the other 7 regions screaming if the Midwest has 7 AQS + 2 or more C bids and goes over the 7.5 per region average. Just a scary thought. And if Carroll wins the Midwest conf. tournament, Lawrence will be the first Midwest region offered a C bid.

What you say in the second sentence is obviously true.  What you say in the first is open to question.  I may be misremembering, but didn't the Pistons clinch the East last year on a night they lost (and at least 3-4 games before the end of the season)?  I seem to recall that they all griped about 'backing in' and vowed to 'validate' it the next game (which I seem to recall they won by, like, 40).  I think that to at least some athletes, 'backing in' does have the broader meaning I gave it, and is a challenge to their egos.

I'm still looking for a Carroll upset of Lawerence in two days

I don't think the regional rankings come out till Wednesday and the NIIC is not an AQ conference this year as far as I know.

Here is how I think the next regional rankings will go:

1. Lawrence
2. Augustana
3. Carroll
4. Transylvania
5. Illinois Wesleyan
6. Lakeland
7. Wash U
8. Franklin

Next in line:

North Central
Elmhurst

Brick

Augie what makes you think that Augustana won't drop down to three or four??  Thats at least what I was expecting to see...

This from the Pool C board.  Teams crossed out are teams that would have Pool A/B bids if the season ended today...teams in bold are the top 18 Pool C candidates per QOWI.

Titan Q

At this stage when looking at QOWI, you have to look at what opponents can move up/down in winning % bands.  For example, with IWU...

Wash U: 11-5 (.688) - @ Brandies, @ NYU, @ Chicago
(IWU win could go from 15 to 13 if Wash U falls below .667)

Illinois College: 7-13 (.350) - vs Monmouth, @ Knox
(IWU win could go from 11 to 9 if IC falls below .333)

Hanover: 12-6 (.667) - vs. Mt. St. Joseph, @ Franklin
(IWU win could go from 14 to 12 if HC falls below .667)

Again, I'd like to stress that flying home from LAX on January 2 I never thought I'd be doing any Illinois College in-region winning % analysis in February.

Hypothetical...

* IWU wins out (@ Augie, vs NPU)

* Augie loses out (vs IWU, @ NCC)

* North Central wins out (@ Elmhurst, vs Augie)

* Elmhurst loses at home to NCC but beats Wheaton

Elmhurst wins conference tournament........

....4 CCIW teams make NCAA tournament?

Mr. Ypsi

Q,

I think your scenario is the only way the CCIW MIGHT get four (though if Elmhurst wins the tourney you don't need to specify the Wheaton game, unless you thoght that necessary for Elmhurst to even MAKE the tourney).

NCC's QOWI would probably still put them on the bubble, though it might be good enough under your scenario, even though that means another loss in the tourney.  If Augie was on a five game losing streak (or 5 of 6), they MIGHT be on the bubble.  IWU would probably still be safe under that scenario.  Yeah, that MIGHT make four, but I think our more serious debate is 2 or 3?

If all the stars align, four IS possible!

Quote from: veterancciwfan on February 13, 2006, 11:34:23 PM( I think the Northern IL league still gets a Pool A bid this year, right?).

No, the NIIC only has six members now, as Dominican jumped ship and moved to the LMC this year. The NIIC is contending for Pool B rather than Pool A.

Quote from: 79jaybird on February 13, 2006, 06:59:50 PMRegardless as to who won the game and whether your favorite team wins or loses, you shake the guy's hand!  That goes back to All I needed to learn I learned in Kindergarten.

The heck with wondering if Wheaton players will shake hands with their opponents after a big win. I want to know if Wheaton players hold each other's hands while crossing the street.  :D
