The NIIC is contending for Pool B rather than Pool A.

And not competing all that well, mind you.

Hypothetical...

* IWU wins out (@ Augie, vs NPU)

* Augie loses out (vs IWU, @ NCC)

* North Central wins out (@ Elmhurst, vs Augie)

* Elmhurst loses at home to NCC but beats Wheaton

Elmhurst wins conference tournament........

....4 CCIW teams make NCAA tournament?

Q,

I have a tough time believing Augie would get in under those circumstances. Their QOWI would continue to drop and a CCIW co-championship isn't in the criteria the selection committee uses. I think North Central would probably be on the bubble in that scenario as well.

bluemom,

I'm sorry if I misinterpreted your post. I hope I didn't come off as petty or "thin-skinned." ;) (C'mon Stat, I'm the guy who called myself the Ralph Wiggum of the board).

Chuck and Dan, Augustana is a Pool C lock at this point.  The worse the Vikings can be - with 3 more straight losses - is 18-5 (.783) in-region with a QOWI of 10.13.

Current QOWI: 214/20 = 10.7

Loss at home to IWU = 6, Loss at NCC = 7, Loss at home in tournament = 6

New QOWI: 233/23 = 10.13

That's not even close to the bubble - those numbers would get any team in.  And how a team finishes is not a criteria, so it doesn't matter when you lose your in-region games.

AUGIE2000...I also would think that Augie would drop but Augie still has the #2 in-region win % and #2 QOWI for Midwest teams behind only Lawrence in both categories.  In last weeks poll, the rankings followed exactly if you added the teams' ranks in QOWI and in-region win %...so that is what I did here.

Lawrence had a total of 2, Augie 4, Carroll and Transy 8, IWU 9

I looked this up for all of the regions last week and in 7 of the 8 regions, the teams were in exact order except for one swap of positions at most (if I remember correctly).  The only region that was not like this was the Mid-Atlantic Region but they had many teams very close together.

So I am just taking my guess at this thing with what I may have figure out from last week.  If the ranking committee does not take in to account when your losses and wins hapen but just your overall in-region resume, then this is where Augie should be ranked.  If Augie had lost these 2 games in a spread out fashion earlier in the year, no one would question a #2 ranking...maybe we will find a little bit out about the regional ranking committee this week

( I think the Northern IL league still gets a Pool A bid this year, right?)

The NIIC is in Pool B this year, although there still is a chance one of them will get a bid, so they may count in your total.  We thought Aurora would be a shoe-in when the year started, but they didn't do so well.  If they can win out, they are in the hunt.

Augie thanks for the insight, this will be a good chance to get to see how the regional ranking committee thinks

Every region is different and changes over time along with the members of the ranking committee.  I don't have enough past knowledge to make much of a comment, but it seems the Midwest has put more of an emphasis on in-region winning percentage than they have on QOWI.  Obviously both factor into the final rankings, but you seem to be right on with your assessment.

After all these years, I am seeing a major evolutionary change!

Augie fans are becoming "more thin skinned" than the greenies!!!!

(They backed IN!!!)

I'm not "thin-skinned", I just want a little Augie love for what they've done so far this season.  Ok, maybe I'm a little thin-skinned.

Honestly, as an "outside" I'm not sure why there is a big deal about backing in.  I'd be happy just getting in to the tournament in a conference as tough as this one, let alone winning it.  You can say my team backed in any day of the week, so long as they got in, and in first place no less.

How many times in the last 20 years has the CCIW had three teams in the tourney?

We will never see four teams qualify in our time on this planet.

Man, how many times has this been brought up in the last few weeks?  The expanded tournament makes it a possibility, however rare it might be.

Hoops fan, I agree.  If you get in, you get in.  Doesn't matter how you characterize it, you're in the big dance and there's a heck of a lot of d3 teams out there that won't have any extra games after their conference tourneys.  Augie has only lossed 2 games in the conference this year.  They won at the Shirk.  Even if they've dropped a couple games lately that they shouldn't have, they've still had a great season.  Were their miscues towards the end of the season offset by some miscues from other teams?  Sure, but who cares if that's backing in or not.  Nobody expected them to be in this position in the first place.  Congratulations on a great season and don't worry about how you got in.  Once the tourney starts, it's a whole new season anyways.  Nobody will remember the Steelers were a 6th seed this year except for as an answer to a trivia question.  Everyone will mostly remember them as Super Bowl Champions.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

Johnny Augie

Don't get me wrong, I 'm happy that Augie will most likely get in.  I just wanted to make it clear that they are also having a great year.

After the last two losses, they need to step back and get everything in order before the tourney begins.

What's the word on Harrigan, I'm assuming he's playing tomorrow.

4 teams in the NCAA Tourn. C'mon guys I would love to see it also, but it will never happen, nor IMO  should it.  I think 2 is a definite and with this conference I think 2 is well deserving.  3) slight chance - deserving yes, but 3 is going to awfully tough to lobby for.
"How many times has the CCIW got 3 teams in?"  Most recently it was in 2001 when EC*/IWU/Carthage all made it.  I know there has been a time before that.
