Mr. Ypsi --

With your background I'm sure you are aware of the Yeshiva University case.  In essense, the more meetings (ergo 'governance') faculty engage in, the more they become 'management.'  This is what we were hit with when I served on the Executive Committe of the faculty at Carthage -- We, too, flirted fairly persistently with union notions, only to learn from AFT higher ed advisers in Washington that we'd have to dismantle things such committees as curriculum, personnel, fringe benefits, and the like.  The rationale advanced by the courts was that so long as faculty engaged in these matters, they were management -- it did not matter a twit that we had no power.

True Basketball Fan--

I got the info from the school's websites themselves, supplemented by US News and World Reports's annual rankings.

Perhaps King Prik would care to enumerate the topics appropos for this site in this off-season time.

Mr. Ypsi

emeritusprof,

Yeshiva doesn't apply to state schools, plus, my unionization was of lecturers, not professors.  You think YOU were powerless...!!

Dennis,

As Pat has (correctly) observed on numerous occasions, complaining about topics NEVER works - if you don't like it, raise a new topic!

devildog29

Dennis, I could resurrect the whole Chris Martin vs. Adam Dauksas for MOP debate again if you'd like.  I'm sure I could figure out some ways to tick off some more people with that one.
Hail, Hail, the gang's all here, all out for Wesleyan!

devildog29

On a completely separate and random note, did Bryan Crabtree finally retire from Euroball or is he still playing?  Am I a couple years behind in asking this question?

Who would win? The 1980 North Park Vikings mens basketball team or a team full of Mike Ditka's. That's right, all the players are Ditka. I have to give the edge to NPU but it would be close, 52-50 in a squeaker.

robertgoulet

i just need to make my game prediction:

Ditkas - 175
1980 NPU - 12
You win! You always do!

With some officiating I've seen, I'd give the edge to the Ditka team.

As for the White Sox, who cares.  The only time I watch the American League is when I take grandkids to Twins games, and when I watch the World Series.

I'll take pleasure in watching NP at Carthage homecoming this year.  I doubt that Tim Rucks has any regrets about beating his old team.

Someone remind me to send The King a card when Labor Day comes around next year.

KD,

How many will NPU win in CCIW men's basketball play?  the answer is 1, which is more than the number of playoff series the White Sox will win, and the number of CCIW games the NPU football team will win, and the number of schools in the CCIW that actually have a decent uniform, and the amount of people who care about the arrangement of socks, and the amount of people in George Ryan's state that he didn't screw over somehow.

Why have the White Sox struggled the last month of the season?

Water seeks its own level over the course of a 162-game season. The White Sox played way over their heads for four months, and now they're regressing to the mean in terms of the actual talent on that team (which is very good but well short of great).

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on September 27, 2005, 09:39:04 AMWhich CCIW basketball team has the nicest uniforms?

NPU's home gold. Next question?

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on September 27, 2005, 09:39:04 AMHow should socks be sorted in a sock drawer: alphabetically or by color?

Neither. Throw all the whites in one drawer, the colors in another, and sort 'em out when you put them on.

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on September 27, 2005, 09:39:04 AMHow many games will North Park win in CCIW men's basketball this year?

Dunno. TBF won't let me borrow his Magic 8-Ball. Perhaps that's just as well, as in the space of two weeks he's gone from saying NPU "may win two, maybe three games at the most" in the CCIW to saying that they will definitely only win one. If he shakes that thing up again and asks it if North Park will be so bad in basketball that they will actually post a negative number in the CCIW win column, it'll tell him, "Signs point to yes".

(Fun fact of the day: The fortune die inside the Magic 8-Ball is a twenty-sided shape, otherwise known as an icosahedron. The herpes virus is also an icosahedron.)

(You're welcome.)

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on September 27, 2005, 09:39:04 AMAgainst who will NPU break its 33-game CCIW football losing streak?

Illinois Wesleyan. But it won't happen this season. The Vikings will go 0-7 in CCIW play yet again in 2005.

Quote from: dennis_prikkel on September 27, 2005, 09:39:04 AMIs Governor Ryan guilty of anything more than just a bad case of arrogance?

Yes.

I must answer that by quoting Todd O'Connor (Chris Farley) when, in the lightning round of the "Bob Swerski's Quiz Masters" skit in the 1/18/92 episode of Saturday Night Live, he was asked who would win a game between Da Bullss and Da Bearss:

"The senseless waste of pitting these two mighty forces of nature against each other, like matter vs. anti-matter, would be a tragedy, not only for the teams involved, but for the entire planet. All nations must band together, to ensure that such a conflagration never takes place."

I should add that this was the correct answer, and Todd's high score won him the "Quiz Masters" grand prize: five minutes in the Cheese Fry Booth.

Mr. Sager - that may very well have been the single greatest post I have ever seen in my life. You, my friend, are a cut above.
You win! You always do!

Pat Coleman

I sure as heck hope he looked up the air date of that SNL and didn't have it memorized. :)

Who knew that Sager was also posting as robertgoulet?   You had me fooled for quite a while Greg.
