Any D3 team couldn't play much better than IWU did tonight: .552 on 3s (16/29) with 8 players making the 16; .769 at the line; RB battle won 44-29 against a good rebounding opponent; 21 assists for IWU's 34 FGs; only 9 TOs. Elmhurst has very good sophomore talent to go along with Sanford and Baxter, 2 good seniors. One amazing stat: IWU had 53 bench points and those players were 18/33 from the floor (.545) and 10/16 on 3s (.625) and outscored the starters 53-51.

Wow, great start in CCIW play for the Titans, with 16 treys on 55% shooting from downtown.

Vic Davis starting out strong with a double double, 18 and 11.

Go Titans.

Caught the 1st half of the EC/IWU game before heading over to The Hangar for the NCC/NPU debacle.
The big Green Team was putting on a clinic in 3 point shooting.

Speaking of Victor Davis----I noticed he didn't start today. Anybody know the reason?
Is this something new for IWU?

Perhaps related to the Tech from the other night?

Yes, related to Victor's T in the Franklin game.  Mayberger started in his place.

Great job by the Titans, quite a shooting display.  Jordan Nelson is heating up.  Many Titans with very solid games.  Dolan and Dortch are quite amazing weapons off the bench.

Davis did not start for the first time this season after picking up a technical that resulted in him fouling out in Wesleyan's previous game against Frankling. Davis still played 23 minutes, shared game-high scoring honors with teammate Andrew Ziemnik at 18 and topped all rebounders with 11.

"I understand. I shouldn't have got the technical. That was the consequences of my actions," Davis said.

Thanks to iwu70 and titan Q for the explanations.

North Central overwhelmed North Park last night in snowy Naperville by a score of 82-54 with NPU registering the last 2 points of the game on FTs after time had expired.

Landon Gamble had his usual stellar game with 20 points on a perfect 4 of 4 from the field and 12 of 16 from the line. He also pulled down a game high 7 rebounds and handled out 4 assists.

However, the night belonged to NCC's Vince Kmiec who seemed to be on auto-pilot for most of the evening. Vince went off for 30 points on 11 of 15 shooting, including 8 of 12 from downtown Naperville. Kmiec was especially hot in the 2nd half when he banked 8 of 9 shots, including going 6 of 7 on threes. To top things off, he added 5 boards and tied his own single game school record with 5 steals.

Not sure whats going on with NPU's three guard weave. The eastern Vikings spent the first 20-25 seconds of many possessions running a 3 man weave on the extreme perimeter, during which the NPU head coach frequently screamed "patience." The object of this rather unusual offensive pattern was undoubtedly to take the air out of the ball and limit NCC's possessions. However, the usual end result was the launch of a long and often desperate 3 ball which accounted for almost half the shots NPU took during the game. Rather surprisingly, they were successful of 7 of 19 of the long range attempts. NPU also employed a zone D for the vast majority of the game, but the Cardinals turned that strategy against them by a) going inside to Gamble who either converted or was fouled, and b) unleashing Kmiec who shredded the zone to the tune of the aforementioned 30 points.

Given their unusual offensive flow and lack of any semblance of an interior game, either offensively or defensively, it  unfortunately would not be surprising to see NPU go winless during conference play.

Wesleyan wasn't the only team with a usual starter on the bench to start the game yesterday. Check out the Carthage starting lineup.

Usual starters Donte Logan, Marlon Senior, and Mike Kastel did play major minutes, but weren't on the floor to begin the game. I'm not including Malcom Kelly as he as started only 1 of 4 games since returning.
Van Wyk and McNellis started only their second games, and Valentine, his first.
Strange.
Discipline or Bosko just shaking things up?

I don't know, but I've noticed as upclick in minutes for Van Wyk as well as some better play.  Kastel pulled his groin a few weeks ago in Florida and didn't play the last game against E. Conn St. - maybe related to that.  Another thought is Kastel has shown the ability to pick up fouls quick, so maybe Bosko is trying to keep him on the bench to keep him from first half foul trouble.

Just speculation on my part.

Stay safe, stay warm, everyone.  Sounds brutal.  IWU is closed Monday, perhaps longer.  Don't risk being out in that kind of cold.  Frostbite in a few minutes.

Good start to the CCIW campaign -- great game upcoming 11-1 Augie vs. 11-1 IWU.  @ Carver.

Was surprised to see that, since IWU is essentially a 100% on- or near-campus school.  Then I saw weather.com forecasting windchill of -45!  Good call, even for a residential campus!  I don't recall them ever shutting down while I was there - I wonder how many times it has ever happened?

EMU is closed tomorrow (about a foot of snow, high winds, wind chill predicted at -30+).  15 years ago they would have stayed open.  But they caught absolute hell from staff and students after staying open on a day where the HIGH temp was -14, and hundreds of people found their cars would not start after a day in a parking lot.  They have FINALLY come to realize that they are primarily a commuter school, and close at least half of the times that the local school districts close. :P

iwu70

It's a good call, Ypsi, for MI. and Central Illinois, for IWU.  This is brutal, dangerous cold.  Things will be better, "back to normal" for temps by Thursday or Friday.  Actually, quite a few students at IWU now live off campus too -- especially upper classmen and some international students.

Stay well, stay safe.

Our Titans sure did have an amazing, strong first outing vs. Elmhurst.  Hope they are just as hot vs. Augie on Wednesday @Carver.

GO TITANS!

I recall the discussion about the NCC coach getting tossed a few weeks back.

This one was a doozie--you need to see the video as well.  I would think some university presidents would take action before the league would.  Hard to excuse this kind of behavior.

Actually, now that I think about it, it does seem strange.  Students do still have to go out to get their meals; how is class different?  Perhaps it was a bow to staff and faculty, who do NOT have to walk to the student center for meals, and who do NOT live on campus! ;)

Whatever - a good call by the administration.

iwu70

A doozie for sure.  Bumping a ref never good.  Likely a multiple game suspension and some fines from his University.   Quite key to the outcome of the game, too, it would appear.

Sure glad the CCIW is mostly much more calm, our coaches more respectful and appropriate with their argumentation.  Well, save for coat tossing.

I wonder if Dennie Bridges or Ron Rose ever got "tossed."  ??  Curious minds want to know.  :)

What made this one worse was Iowa having to make up for a frankly unacceptable decision by its head coach. In case you hadn't heard, Fran McCaffery blew a gasket and got himself ejected at the 11:52 mark of the game. It led to four free points for the Badgers—not a brilliant idea when you're hanging onto a tenuous lead, to say the least—and put an unreasonable amount of pressure on the team down the stretch.

The fact that AppletonRocks associates "the NCC coach" with this story should not be construed to mean his actions were in any way comparable to those of the Iowa coach in tonight's game at Wisconsin.  >:(

The proof is in the fact that Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan did not walk over to the Iowa staff after the game and tell them "you got screwed" as did the Buffalo State staff after their game with NCC at the tournament in Orlando.  ;)
