Sorry I opened this can of worms, I have no horse in the NCC/Buffalo fight, just recall the discussion about a tossed coach recently.   :-[

No problem Appleton. Not sure what your role was in this, but I am comfortable with the fact that all those in the CCIW/Midwest boards now know that no one from Buffalo State made any such comment to anyone from NCC. Nothing more to say about that.

To the NCC fans (including Andone  :) )..good luck vs Millikin weds. night. And ditto to Carthage when they travel to North Park . If I never have to worry about Sutton hitting another 3 or Gamble working in the paint...I'll be fine. Ditto for worrying about Sykes from beyond the arc, Marlon Senior inside and/or Malcom Kelly from the outside or going to the hole, I'll sleep better. We here in Western New York are hoping that North Central and/or Carthage run the table from now till the selection committee decides who goes to the dance. Both are class programs and both are very hard working teams.

Signing out till the postseason! ;)

Go BENGALS  ;)

y_jack,

I've been looking at the Bennet Rankings for about a month now when the coach at Plattsburgh State emailed me a link to their website with the question... what do you think about these rankings? I called him up and said that i wasn't impressed and it didn't look like the results were very well researched. I glanced at them after they were updated a bit later and still was unimpressed. Hadn't looked at them for a couple of weeks until I clicked on your link just now and I probably won't bother ever looking at them again. While I appreciate the fact that he has my Cardinals at #25, it's a bit premature to rank them that high. I could overlook that but what I can't overlook is the placement of Richard Stockton, who beat my Cardinals, and is only 2 points from an undefeated season at 9-1, ranked at #34, 9 spots below Plattsburgh. The worst examples though are the following rankings: Franklin & Marshall at #46, Cortland State at #49 (they lost to SUNYIT and Utica College two not very good teams that Massey has ranked #261 and #263), UW-Stout at #50, Rhode Island College at #53, Rochester a 5-5 team at #71 is a joke, Brockport State a 6-1 team at #72, when they should be a top 25 team, (Massey has them at #9), Spalding from your own conference a 5-5 team at #79 and perhaps the biggest laugher of them all (there may be some that are worse I just couldn't go any further after I spotted this one) a 3-6 Keene State team that I saw in person and is just a poor team this year, ranked at #86. :o

These rankings are just plain bad and have no rhyme or reason to many of the placements. The top 15 teams in his ranking are plausible, but after that way too many head scratchers. ??? I'll pass on Bennett for the rest of this year. :P

As for the SOS question I won't give away the answer and the team he has given that #1 designation to, does have a decent SOS according to Massey but he has 14 other teams ahead of Bennent's #1.  Massey ranks Hope College as having the #1 SOS right now, but that will change for sure as the teams get into conference play.

Regarding McCaffery: I saw it live and I thought at the time that the Iowa AD should have a serious talk with him as his uncontrolled anger was a very strong factor in the Hawkeyes losing by 4. Bridges and Rose have never been tossed, but Scott Trost got two technicals within a minute and a half during the 2nd half at Florida Gulf Coast in December 2003. Dennis Martel, the head baseball coach and ass't b'ball coach, took over and IWU rallied from a large deficit but still lost. On another topic, give Ron Rose all the credit for recruiting so well. IWU never had many b'ball players from south of Decatur (Luke Kasten and Laban Cross the notable exceptions). But Rose has added the St. Louis area to the usual suburban Chicago and central IL recruiting base. Those players (Sodemann, Dolan, Anderson, Mayberger and Pennington [a soph. guard who is playing JV]) have contributed heavily to IWU's success. Regarding the Augie game Wed. in Rock Island: The IWU seniors have had 3 very close games at Rock Island, losing by 2 in 2011 and 2012 and winning by 6 last year. Should be a fantastic game. Hope it warms up. There is a JV game at 5.

veterancciwfan

Should have given credit in previous post to Buddy Sodemann and his father Bill for the St. Louis area talent. Big omission. My bad.

On this note if you will allow me some leeway for a shout out about the Wheatons womens team.
1.  The leading scorer in the CCIW womens basketball is freshman #10 Katie McDaniels  http://athletics.wheaton.edu/roster.aspx?rp_id=4238&path=wbball  This 5'6" dynamo who often looks like Stuart Little due to her size plays a giant of a game both offensively and defensively.
2.  The womens team is ranked #14 in D3hoops this week.
3.  They have a great overall game inside and out.
4.  It would be great to see the fans show up for their games especially the ones before the mens when there both at King arena.  The football team showing up for their game before the mens would be greatly appreciated as this team deserves more support than its getting.

I found BennettRank last fall from a post I read on one of the soccer boards, so I checked out where they had various D3 men's and women's soccer teams ranked. I also checked out their stated methodology and apparently it is 100% statistical -- at least that's what I remember. That's when I noticed they also did basketball, so I thought I'd look at their hoops rankings just for fun. I don't generally get into rankings in a big way, I just thought it might be another interesting source for those who really like this kind of stuff. I'm not saying it is any better or any worse than Massey, D3hoops.com, or anything else that might be out there.

I recall the discussion about the NCC coach getting tossed a few weeks back.

This one was a doozie--you need to see the video as well.  I would think some university presidents would take action before the league would.  Hard to excuse this kind of behavior.

What made this one worse was Iowa having to make up for a frankly unacceptable decision by its head coach. In case you hadn't heard, Fran McCaffery blew a gasket and got himself ejected at the 11:52 mark of the game. It led to four free points for the Badgers—not a brilliant idea when you're hanging onto a tenuous lead, to say the least—and put an unreasonable amount of pressure on the team down the stretch.

The fact that AppletonRocks associates "the NCC coach" with this story should not be construed to mean his actions were in any way comparable to those of the Iowa coach in tonight's game at Wisconsin.  >:(

The proof is in the fact that Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan did not walk over to the Iowa staff after the game and tell them "you got screwed" as did the Buffalo State staff after their game with NCC at the tournament in Orlando.  ;)

Whoa there partner! No staff from Buffalo State said any such thing to anyone from NCC. One coach did compliment the assistant who filled in when NCC head coach got tossed ( and the head coach should have got tossed because he acted like a complete fool) IMHO!

I could care less about the attached article regarding Iowa and Wisconson but after NCC coach was tossed he even barked out threats to the tourney organizer, Alfredo Ortiz! After the game he took all the sym cards from the video person who was hired to film all the games. The coach from Buffalo State tracked down the NCC coach back at the Sheraton hotel and confronted the NCC coach about taking items that did not belong to him. All the cards were givin back to Coach Ansari ( Buff state Head Coach) immediately !!! I find it rather offensive that someone would try to even co sign for such behavior that we all witnessed at that game and try and color it with such a false statement as the aforementioned 1.

Ps. I am a coach with Buffalo State so I am not giving you second hand info!!!!

Hold on Coach Eve.  You came on a public forum, identified yourself as a university representative, and accused the NCC coach of conduct that could constitute a crime under Florida law.

Are you real sure that you want to go this route?

I am stating a fact. If the NCC coach wants to go back to Florida and turn himself in then that's up to him. I just wanted to make sure that the "crock" about anyone from Buffalo State making the aforementioned comment was addressed. It has been addressed..now it's time to get ready for SUNYAC play!

I hope that you are a better basketball coach than a tort lawyer.  You need to read up on defamation.  A piece of advice.  if you post allegations such as these (while flaming another board), put your risk manger on notice, particularly if you are feeding from the public trough.  I'm just sayin'.....................

I apologize for the fact that I may have previously paraphrased the information I initially rec'd about the interaction between staffers from Buff State and NCC following the conclusion of their game in FL. While "you got screwed" may not have been the the exact terminology used, the NCC staff felt that this was a short summary and the basic gist of what they were told after the game by various folks from Buff St.

1. During the game NCC was hit with four technicals. The first was when Kevin Honn said to a BS player, something very close to if not word for word "You better calm down." No profanity, no battery. The 2nd T was whistled on a NCC student assistant who counted out loud "1,2,3, 4" to identify the fact that a BS player was in the lane longer than allowed. Something that happens constantly in games and never results in a T. Pretty mild stuff. The 3rd T was the result of a NCC ass't coach saying "remind me not to come back here again," or something very close. The ref must have been insulted. And the fourth T was given after the, I believe, head coach remarked about the discrepancy in both personal fouls and technical fouls that had been called on the respective teams to that point in the game. Because it was the 2nd T on the bench, the NCC head coach was ejected. As he was leaving the court, the "threat" he made was to threaten never to come back to this tournament. To suggest or imply the NCC head coach threatened anyone with physical harm or any other form of violence is ridiculous. Other than being 6'6" he is not a physically imposing guy, and anyone who has known him for any length of time would know that threats of a physical nature are just not part of his make up.

2. "He took all the sym cards from the video person." Actually, after both the Eastern Ct State game the night before and again after the Buffalo St game, someone from Buffalo St gave the NCC ass't coaches "chips" of the games rather than DVDs of the games which is the usual procedure.

3. "The coach from Buff State tracked down the NCC coach back at the Sheraton Hotel and confronted the NCC coach about taking items that did not belong to him." Actually, at about 10 PM, after NCC coaches and players returned from the Orlando Magic game, the Buff State head coach went to the Sheraton and asked for the game "chips" that had earlier been given to NCC, back. The Buff State coach explained that after they got back to New York, they would mail DVDs of the games to Eastern Ct., Carthage, and NCC. This was not a case of the police or a private investigator tracking down stolen items and recovering them at the criminals lair under threat of prosecution.

4. Again, after the NCC players returned from the Magic game, some Buffalo St players, and possibly some other members of the BS party, spoke with the NCC players either outside the hotel or in a common area in the hotel and advised the NCC contingent that the T calls during the game were inappropriate, and that those calls probably were a factor in the game.

5. With regard to the DVDs that the Buffalo St head coach promised to send NCC as soon as Buff St got back to NY, it should be noted that NCC has yet to receive a DVD of the game with Buff State despite the fact that it was played on 12/21, and that they just received the DVD of the 12/20 game vs Eastern CT yesterday. Additionally, as of last Thurs or Friday, Carthage still had not rec'd the DVD of either of the games they played at the Orlando tournament. Don't know if Eastern CT rec'd anything yet or not.

6. With regard to the questionable/quick technical fouls, it IS interesting to note that the tournament in question was hosted by Buffalo State, who, as hosts, would seem to have been the organization that arranged for the refs.

Coach Martel may have been the head man in title for that half vs Florida Gulf Coast, but I'm pretty sure manager Jake Sheley was running all X's and O's operations.

Yes, but it should be noted that Buffalo State did return a copy of a "Sleepless in Seattle" DVD borrowed from Bosko's personal collection though.

Yes, some crazy amazing stats from the guy @Cabrini.  Does he have a good set of role players, supporting caste of characters around him?

The game IWU up at Augie sure should be a good one.  Hope it "warms up" a bit to let folks travel and attend more easily.  IWU is back open, classes starting as usual on Wednesday, the day of this game.  I think the team that wins the TO and rebounding battles wins this game.  Titans will have to really rebound the hell out of this game -- hopefully still equally on fire from treyland as vs. Elmhurst last weekend.

GO TITANS!!!

Warm congrats to IWU's Zman (Mssr. Andrew Ziemnik) for his second CCIW Player of the Week award of this young season.  Go Zman, keep it rolling.  Another double double and a very near double double last week vs. Franklin and Elmhurst.  A very sold, consistent and productive week.

Go TITANS vs. Augie @ Carver.  Should be a really good, tough, close game.

Feature story on Tillema and the Pointers on the front page of D3hoops.com now.

Look forward to the Augie-IWU game.  Hope the IWU bus has good anti-freeze.
