Hoosier Titan

Quote from: Gregory Sager on January 13, 2014, 10:33:59 PM

I had the pleasure of meeting Nick's dad on Saturday in the crackerbox. Seems like a really nice man. I also had the pleasure of finally meeting Hoosier Titan, whose posts on both the CCIW men's and women's boards I've respected for a long time now. We had a brief discussion of our mutual dislike of how Grinnell plans out and then sets those NCAA individual records against tomato-can Bible schools, proving the lie to those who have said that I can never agree with anyone who wears green. ;)

I enjoyed meeting and chatting with you too, Greg.  I pretty much agree with your assessment of the game.  Juwan Henry's ability to slice through the Titan defense early brought back memories of Virginia Wesleyan's Ton Ton Balenga in 2006, a name to bring shudders to all Titan fans.

The Titan women have had a bad habit of starting really slowly this season--Saturday was not bad at all for them, but the men seemed to have picked up the habit.  I give NP credit for that.

And the talk of IWU-UWSP earlier did indeed smack of hubris.  A coach I once admired said (long before Phil Jackson brought Zen into basketball), "Don't worry about the next game.  Worry about the next possession."  So now we can worry about tomorrow's game, and Saturday's--the brackets can wait.
You'll never walk alone.

Sager -- first link I checked on that page was broken, North Park MBB live stats. Points out that these things are difficult to maintain accurately.

Drop an e-mail to CCIW SID/assistant commish Mike Krizman, Pat. He's very good about addressing these matters. Yesterday afternoon I noticed that the page in question didn't have links to NPU for baseball and softball (both live stats and video/audio). I e-mailed Mike, and as of this morning those links are in place on the CCIW live stats/webcast page.

It just seems to me that it would make your job easier if you could simply go to that one page rather than having to go school by school to set up your front-page scoreboard links. As I said, every school in the CCIW has live stats and webcasts for each home game, so the front-page scoreboard listings on d3hoops.com for CCIW games shouldn't be devoid of links.

It is only mildly easier -- the issue is not grabbing the links as much as applying them only to the correct games in our system (home games for video/live stats, away games for audio and taking a leap of faith that all games are broadcast, etc.). That's much easier for schools to post to our site because they only have two basketball teams, where we have 800. :)

Here's a walk down memory lane with 2002 Carthage.  Lots of great CCIW footage.

Not something you see every week -- Carthage sweeping all the Player/Swimmer of the week honors -- both men and women swimmers, and both men and women roundballer honors.  All Red.  Congrats to all.

Some great games upcoming this week and this weekend.  Getting down the where the "rubber meets the road" in the CCIW race.  Seems this might be the time for one of the top teams to take a loss from someone unexpected.  Just hope it's not my Titans @Jimmy Millikin.  One game at a time . . .

GO TITANS!

According to the Pgraph piece on Marietti, seems Ron Rose is still toying with the starting rotation, even at this point in the season for the rest of the CCIW run.  Dortch started at NPU.  Seems to me the guy that really deserves to start and has produced  in scoring and rebounding last season and this is Mike Mayberger.  I know the combination will depend on the opponent, offense or defense etc. -- or so it seems -- but a starting line-up of Overstreet, Sodemann, Mayberger, Zman and Davis seems the overall strongest to me at this point.  Of course, lots of others rotating in and out, depending on the opponent, the game situation and who is hot, what is needed on the night.  Millikins perimeter players, quickness, could give the Titans some trouble.   Sure would like to see the Titans put it all together and get everyone hitting on all cylinders -- play a more complete game like that vs. Wash U earlier.  Good to see Marietti getting in game shape, slimming down and being in a 100% healthy position to make a greater contribution the rest of the season.

Some good games tonight -- some possible surprises.

The Elmhurst Community lost a great person the other day in our Athletic Trainer Matt Passalaqua.  Matt helped every EC sport and I recall some great bus trips talking to him prior to EC Football Games.  Hopefully the Jays can pick up some W's for him (in every sport) to remember him.  Thoughts and prayers to his family.  Taken way too soon.

I was very sad to hear about Matt's passing on Saturday morning. I obviously got to know Matt very well during my playing days, and even though he wasn't the Men's basketball trainer, I still spent countless hours in the training room with him. He was a very fun guy to be around, and was extremely supportive of all Elmhurst athletics. He was definitely one of the "behind-the-scenes" people that helped make my college and basketball experience more enjoyable. Best wishes to his entire family. I hope they know just how loved and respected he was at Elmhurst College. He will be missed.

Big game for the Thunder up in Kenosha tonight. I think the matchups are not favorable for Wheaton. They have not played well against Carthage in Kenosha. They need a win tonight going into Saturday's showdown in Bloomington.

IWU over the Big Blue at the half 35-27.  Very hard-fought game.  Sodemann 9.  Marietti gets the start.  Mike Mayberger to the rescue yet again. Poor first half shooting by the Titans -- 1-9 from treyville at one point.  Titans 12-14 from the charity stripe.

Bob, in case you couldn't catch the Millikin game tonight, you'll be pleased to know that one of the Big Blue webcast sponsors is a State Farm agency in Decatur. :)

IWU over MU 75-57.

If the truth be known, the IWU starters, save for Sodemann, did not play all that well tonight, in a very hard-fought game.  MU played well in the first half but the IWU depth and bench play wore them down.  Best unit for the Titans tonight was Dolan, Sodemann, Mayberger, Dortch and Anderson.  Dolan and Anderson played very well overall.  Key to the game was good perimeter D and holding TJ Griffin to 10 points.  Titans really need to value each possession and cut down on the turnovers.  Titans bigs played well, with a huge rebounding advantage tonight.  Some guys who can really shoot it need to get going -- overall 3 ball shooting tonight not very impressive, esp. in the first half.  Maybe the Griz lighting and rims, right?  :)  LOL.

Anyway, any road win in the CCIW is a good win.  Big game at the Shirk now with WC on Saturday.

Very bitter loss for NPU. The Vikings had a chance to win the game in the final ten seconds, but couldn't execute. They lost the game at the FT line only 10-21.
