Yes, I agree that just because I find it a childish, not particularly witty and a not-so-subtle swipe at the Tarble's generosity doesn't mean anyone will.  To each his own.

To the not particular witty comment, I am usually all for nicknames, but the problem with The Toolshed is that the Tarble family made their money making tools primarily for the automotive industry and other industrial applications.  Snap-on tools are generally not stored in a toolshed.

Snap-on actually makes a lot of money selling toolboxes.

Q, good luck with your Dallas foray . . . and transition later on.

Go TITANS!

Gee, Greg, and to think I haven't even started as yet on the Year of the Horse.  Did I mention it? :)

The Titans have a women's JV lacrosse team???  Who knew?  Greg, you are just so so well informed about D3 sports, it just never ceases to amaze.

Yeah, a toolshed is more for gardening equipment or a tractor, which isn't what Snap On makes.  I thought of 'toolbox' as a nickname, but  too small and doesn't really work for me.  I spent a little more time thinking about it and then remembered that I'm not good at this sort of clever marketing and realized I am probably wasting my time.

Back then we used to call it "the Cave" or "the Dungeon". K-Mark once made reference on CCIW Chat to the "cocktail-lounge lighting" of the pre-renovation Carthage gym, which was a perfect description. Or was that your reference, mwunder?

All K-MARK

Greg,

Your memory is always impeccable!   Once you mentioned it I thought I recalled saying that, but it was still good validation to hear it from Michael.

I'm still lurking on the board...

Guess I should technically change my board name to PP-Mark as in Pleasant Prairie....haven't lived in Kenosha for 10 years now.

Quote from: AndOne on January 17, 2014, 02:11:38 PMCC is fortunate to have a large company provide the funding it has just as IWU has benefited from the generous backing of the Shirk family of Beer Nuts fame who provided the financial consideration behind construction of the Shirk Center. Or is that the Beer NutHouse?  :)

I've considered "Beer Nut Gallery" or "Nut Hut", but, like everything IWU-related, I'm afraid that if I open it up for CCIW Chat discussion, iwu70 will take it as a cue to give us three paragraphs on the current status of the Titans women's lacrosse junior varsity or the IWU Vietnamese Exchange Student Glee Club. ;) :D I've referred to the Millikin arena as "the Griz" in the past, and I should probably go back to using it, now that Millikin is getting more attention here. I've never really been able to get a handle on a good nickname for Carver or King, although I've pondered dubbing Faganel Hall "the Nest" or "the Woodpile".

As far as Carver, I nominate "the Pit." The entrance/balcony level surrounding the playing floor is elevated, and you walk down into the the seating area which, of course, is still above the floor which is still lower. The height of the entrance area/lobby/balcony being far above the actual playing floor makes you have to walk down into "the Pit' to view the game action.

I've considered using the "the Pit" from time to time, but the problem with that nickname is that it's already taken by another college basketball arena:

If Wheaton can find their way into the NCAA Tournament somehow that's going to be an awfully difficult first round match-up for a higher seeded team.  They may accumulate too many losses to get a Pool C bid though.

Mr. Ypsi

For the Titans tonite: Jordan Nelson 16, Victor Davis 15 (and 9 boards), SEVEN others between 4 and 9 points.  Nice distribution of the ball!

Tyler Peters came on strong in the second half, but it wasn't enough - iirc, he had 4 in the 1st half, 11 in the 2nd.
