augie_superfan,

I interpret it the other way. I'd think the 3-way tie criteria would apply all the way, meaning Elmhurst's 2-2 would trump Wheaton's 1-3 in your scenario. I don't really know if that's right or not, but that's the way it reads to me.

usee, since when did you start using caps and proper punctuation?  Awesome!

Hiker, it's a basketball board. Much more sophisticated than the gridiron rag I'm used to. When in Rome......

I attribute it to the life-changing effect that citing "Exodus 20:18" has had on his life. ;) :)

Ralph, actually I am a bigger fan of the team formerly known as "Crusaders". I couldn't find an appropriate exegetical reference to that however.

Q-thanks as always. You aptly point out these Greenies have yet a chance to make their mark on the 2006 season. It is a mystery to me how the same program with the same players, coaches, etc can struggle so much with a schedule they handled 1 year prior. It's not like they lost all tough road games either. The struggles and losses at home baffle me as much as anything.

I guess when you consider that wheaton was an in and out shot and a 7 pt lead w less than 2min away from sweeping the top two, then none of this makes much sense in that context.

It may be a little confusing to us fans, but it really isn't that unusual for a team to be really good one year and the next be back with the pack with the same basic team.  Who knows why it happens, possibly a chemistry issue, the other teams have improved while your team stays the same.

I'm sure the IWU players are disappointed as someone else pointed out, but that disappointment can be easily turned around with a trip to the FF. I still find it hard to believe that IWU has lost 5 games with the talent and depth they have this year. I think they still have the capability of going all the way.

On the other hand were it not for 3 overtime victories in conference earlier this year, they could easily have 8 conference losses now with no chance to go anywhere after this weekend. Based on the number of high scoring games IWU has played an outside observer such as myself might surmise that their inability to play shutdown defense is their problem.  Clearly offense is not a problem for the Titans, but they have given up lots of points this year. Perhaps those who watch them regularly could comment on this suggestion. I really don't think senioritis is the answer.

I commented last night that I could not recall the last time Augie beat IWU twice in the same year. Even in the year they were 2nd in the nation ('92-93'), I'm pretty sure IWU administered one of Augie's two losses. Perhaps Titan Q can recall when Augie last beat the Titans twice in one season.

I just checked the IWU website - Augie DID sweep in 93 (though the second game went OT).

Augiefan, IWU's last sweep at the hands of Augustana was in 1993.  Augie won 94-80 in Rock Island early and then 79-78 in OT at Fred Young Fieldhouse on the last Wednesday of the season, without Kirk Anderson.  I did the play-by-play for that game on WESN and will never forget calling a banked-in 3 from the top of the key by Mike Radue (sp?).  The last Augie sweep prior to '93 was 1984-85.  IWU was 10-17, 8-8 that year.

Yet another parallel between 1993 and 2006 is that in the final week of the year, IWU (8-4) faced Augustana (10-1) with a chance to extend things to Saturday, hoping for a 10-4 tie.  The game went to OT with Augie winning.  (Augie lost @ North Park 65-64, but finished the league slate with a win over Elmhurst.)

Regarding the Carthage @ Wheaton game...it is Wednesday, not Tuesday.  I think that is cutting it very short for the Friday games.  If there is still something on the line Wednesday, it means teams will have 1 day of practice (Thursday) to prepare for their specific opponent.

Q and Augiefan,
According to last night's program the last time Augie swept IWU was actually the 2001-2002 season.  Augie won 85-77 in Bloomington and 106-92 in Rock Island.

I'm not seeing the issue here Q, every conference tournament in D3 next week will be played in similar fasion.

Only one day shouldn't matter since its the third time you'll be seeing someone this year.  I don't think your going to learn anything new in one day.

What a conference race!   Sorry but this is my first opportunity to get on-line.  Congrats to Augie, and congratulations to NCC.

The NCC-Elmhurst game was a tough one for the BlueJays to lose, but they did, and now we come down to the last weekend, to determine who goes and who doesn't.  Around the E-hurst staff, the scenario as Pat put it is the way they are interpreting the rules, but given the conference year we have had n Who knows.   E-hurst must view it as they "control their own destiny!"  Would rather not back into anything!   North Central has Augie, and I don't think Augie likes ending the conference year on a losing note.  No prediction here, everytime I predict, I lose.  Therefore when the NCAA brackets are set, just get a copy of my picks, pick them in reverse and you'll win:  I am accused of picking winners by colors I like vs. dislike, mascots I favor, and other stuff.

As for the CCIW tourney, I'll be there if we get there.

Again, congratulations Augustana, you have proven that you are THE CCIW Conference champions, no if's, ands, or butts!
