^^  Re: Tillema and Hass.  I'd agree about Hass, but suspect Tillema will be beaten out by Cabrini's Aaron Walton-Moss for national POY (Amherst's Aaron Toomey will also be in the conversation).  If memory serves, Tillema, Toomey, and Walton-Moss are all guards, so first team AA should be a real battle!  (My hunch is that Pat, et. al., will call one a wing and put all three on the team.)

(Noting, of course, that there is still a lot of season and tournament yet to be played!)

Tillema, Toomey, and Walton-Moss are all guards. Hass is too... but he's part of the reason why Tillema likely won't make POY (unless it's given to him because Point wins the national championship, or something like that).

Tillema has been more consistent than Hass... but Hass has gone for 40+ twice this year.

IWU down to #6 in the week 8 poll.  Augie still at 14 or so.  WC and Carthage getting a little love in ORV.

Congrats to Elmhurst on their big wins this past week and to EC player, Kyle Wuest, on Player of the Week in the CCIW.

AppleRocks, I'm talking to YOU! You are so unhelpful sometimes.   :)

Mr. Ypsi

Mark, sometimes??

Has he EVER made a useful post?

iwu70

Ypsi, I take your point.  Indeed so.  AndOne, please don't encourage him.

Hope you'all are surviving another round with the polar vortex.  Must be brutal, horrible.

Ypsi, glad our Titans have four home games now, 5 of last 7 games at home -- and hoping for a nice 5-0 run @The Shirk.  Augie game will be key.

The polar vortex is starting to get to people.  U of Michigan is cancelling classes for weather for the first time in 36 years (they closed for a day or two after 9-11), even though tomorrow's forecast is less dire than 3 weeks ago when they stayed open (-45 wind chill then; predicted -30 tomorrow).  They caught such holy hell then, I think they've gotten skittish!  The cold is not the real problem for me, it is that it NEVER stops snowing!  For at least ten days now, there has never been a period of even 12 hours where snow wasn't coming down.  It has almost always been very light, but it never ends, and it DOES accumulate.  We broke the all-time January record 3 days ago, and it is still coming down!  MAKE IT STOP!!! :P

And we are only 3 tenths from tying the SE Michigan all time any month snow record from 1908.

Would love to see Elmhurst in the mix for the CCIW tournament.  Sure would be a major achievement for John Baines, surpassing expectations for his team in his first year of head coaching in the CCIW.  For them to beat Augie that way, he must have his players really believing.  Agree with Naperick that CC will be a tough out along the way, too, esp. if they shoot the percentage they shot vs. IWU in Kenosha last Saturday.

IWU70

Elmhurst has shown some improvement.  I would suggest not going by the results of the Augie game.  Augie had trouble even making bunnies that game.
Could Elmhurst make the CCIW tournament?  Anything is possible.  I think the current top 1-4 are really the contenders for the tournament.

Watch out ... Cubs World series might be next

carthage guy

when do the official regional rankings come out?  have they come out already?

veterancciwfan

Carthage is tied with 2 other teams for 36th in today's poll. Regarding Carthage winning 2 games in the CCIW tourney, it better be in Carthage for that to be probable, but I do think Carthage is a very good team and well coached. If they continue to shoot like they did Saturday, anything is possible. Malcom is simply unguardable. If they make the tournament and win it, they will have he best all-time winning percentage, a perfect 4-0 as they have been in it only once before when they won it at home in 2010.

Actually, Carthage is unranked. Only teams 1-25 are ranked and the rest are simply receiving votes.

Pat: I'm just using the same logic that the Carthage Sports Information office uses. According to their program for the IWU game,
and I quote the lead headline: No. 44 Carthage Plays Host to No. 4 Illinois Wesleyan It's like the 4 class basketball tournament we now have in the once great state of Illinois. Every school wants to shout out its ranking.

Pat, I know you feel pretty strongly about this (you've posted about it a number of times over the years), but to me it seems a silly quibble.  Those below 25th still received fewer or greater numbers of votes than others in the ARV; they are not Top 25, but they can still be 'ranked'.

In deference to your feelings on the subject, I always list those beyond 25th as, say (33rd).

I am aware of what they do but that doesn't make it right. You can't actually be No. 44 in a Top 25. And the statistics prof who follows your post should know that. :)
