Titan Q covered the IWU seniors well, but there are a lot of other talented players leaving the CCIW after this season's close. Congratulations to all of the other CCIW seniors, who stayed the course for their final year. In the non-athletic scholarship world of D3 sports this commitment deserves recognition. Those players are as follows:

Augustana:

Jay McAdams Thornton F-Starter
Rick Harrigan G-Starter

Carthage:

Keena Johnson G-Starter
Mark Morrison F-Starter

Elmhurst:

Chris Ihlenfeldt G-Starter
Chris Martin F-Starter
Evan Patchett G
David Gershenzon G
Andrew Mohney C

IWU:

The 8 mentioned by Titan Q, including 4 starters and some big time reserves.

Milliki:

Lance Brooks F-Starter
Reid Jones G-Starter

NCC:

Adam Teising G-Starter
Ray Vicario G-Starter
Jeff Larson G
Halston Hanserd G

NPU:

Bjorn Berg G Starter
Brett Mathiesen C/F Starter
Mike Peterson

Wheaton:

Jordan Kemper F-Starter
Tony Bollier G-Starter

Thanks to all of these guys for making the CCIW the best D3 conference in the country. Thanks also for giving us, the diehard D3 b'ball fans, a lot of great basketball over the last four years. Good luck to all of you as you enter the real world.

... This Titan fan will have trouble seeing 'em go.

I think the whole "green nation" joins you in this sentiment, Q.  Not only great players, these guys are just great people.  It really is wonderful to see how they treat the kids that look up to them so much.  I have to admit, I have one kid in particular in mind.  They have been pretty good role models.  A big thanks for a great four years go out to them.

It looks to me like this CCIW senior class will produce 4 2005-06 D3hoops.com All-Americans:

Rick Harrigan, Augustana
Adam Dauksas, IWU
Keelan Amelianovich, IWU
Chris Martin, Elmhurst

I wonder how many times one conference has had 4 All-Americans in one graduating class?

Congrats and best of luck to all of the seniors.  What a special league.

Peterson is listed as a senior, but he'll be back next season for the Vikings. He's getting a medical redshirt for this season, since he tore his ACL during fall practice.

David Gershenzon is also scheduled to redshirt this season and return for another go around next year (or as sources close to the team say with "95-99%" certainty.
Gershenzon for those who forgot averaged 13.1ppg (of the bench) during the CCIW season in 04-05 and was robbed out of a 3rd team All-CCIW team. Speaking of, i'm surprised to not be reading more debate about All-CCIW teams and post-season awards

I hear Thunder, could it bring rain down on EC's postseason chances?

For all the media out in CCIW land, how about forming an unofficial All-CCIW media team with the stipulation that all voting parties had to cover at least 75% of their teams CCIW games.

Though it is still too early to give out my CCIW teams, can anyone convince me as to why Anthony Simmons deserves to be a first team player?  Harrigan, Martin, Dauksas, Amelianovich sounds good, but adding Simmons to that just seems to dumben down the team.
As for Simmons, after seeing him play in a handful of games in the last two seasons, is their any hope of him ever maturing and growing up?  If he can, good luck stopping him then, but as my broadcast partner and I like to joke, if he gives three sarcastic (what was that call all about) looks to the ref in the first ten minutes of the game the team is better off with him on the bench.

Also, asking student broadcasters to be "professional" at all times is simply a joke.  Though they should not mock, taunt or laugh at the other teams players or fans, these are their friends, their roommates and their fraternity brothers, so of course they are going to show some more raw emotion than someone being paid to do a job (or someone who has forgotten they can show emotion years ago).  They are simply doing it for their love of the game, to get more experience and to learn how to hone their craft.  Obviously they are not going to give as good of a product as someone who has been doing it for a while, but that is why they call it a learning curve.  That is why people take years to get to be in a position where they are professionals doing this as a career.  When commenting on these games called by these kids, be sure to remember how you were at your first job, how you got better every week and how you wished that your superiors would have given you a chance.

And by the way, if Elmhurst makes the conference tournament and learns how to win a close game at the end, you better believe I'm going to be standing on my feet screaming for a victory because those are my guys, I've worked with them for years and you better believe I'll clap when they do something memorable or who knows, even win.

According to the Elmhurst website, Gershenzon has played in eight games this year. Would he be eligible for a redshirt?

Mr. Ypsi

I'm pretty sure that 8 is the limit - if he had appeared in 9, then no.

Pat Coleman

The general rule, last I heard, was one-third of scheduled games, rounded up, so I think even nine would have been acceptable. I know of football players with four games played getting medical redshirts as well.

Thanks for the correction, Pat.  I remembered the one-third part, but forgot about the rounded-up.

I believe the correct terminology for a DIII player attempting to gain another year of eligibility after being injured is medical hardship.

Redshirts, D2 and 1 know it, is banned in DIII.

does any one know who if the Augie NCC game is going to be broadcast tonight?

I believe medical redshirting is still a valid term. The redshirting restriction specifically excepted medical reasons.
