Watching team USA play Canada in semi's. International hockey has a lot of room behind the nets.
Big advantage to the European teams, kinda like North Central basketball with all that room behind their basket.
Huge advantage!!!

SCHEDULE CHANGE

For any interested parties, Elmhurst has changed the start times of both the women's and men's games vs North Central this coming Sat., 2/22.

The games were originally scheduled for 5:00 and 7:00 respectively. However, at some point Elmhurst changed the start times to 2:00 for the women's game, and 4:00 for the men's as they are evidently entitled to do.

An interesting sideline to the changes was the fact that Elmhurst apparently failed to advise anyone at North Central of said changes, which were luckily discovered by accident only late yesterday afternoon. It seems one of the NCC men's ass't coaches was on the phone with an Elmhurst ass't to discuss the possibility of a men's JV game prior to the women's/men's varsity games Sat. When a JV time of 2:00 was suggested, the EC response was along the lines of "we can't do that because the women's game is at 2:00 and the men's at 4:00." This came as quite a surprise to both of the NCC head coaches who were in at the time as neither had heard anything about any change being made to the original 5:00 and 7:00 start times, and who were prepared to show up in accordance with those times.

Whatever the cause of the Elmhurst miscommunication  :-[, the new start times have now been confirmed for 2:00 for the women, and 4:00 for the men, and the two school's web sites have been adjusted to show the changes.

Seems like a double helping of good luck. Now, besides showing up at the newly scheduled times, any interested EC and NCC fans will be able to attend the IWU @ Wheaton battle @ 7:00.  :)

Elmhurst has been playing 2 and 4 pm Saturday doubleheaders for the past 2 seasons. The time of this game was never changed. All anyone at NCC had to do was pull up the ECBluejays website and check the schedule. Not sure how Elmhurst "miscommunicated" this information.

In lieu of senior nights happening this week and some coming up this weekend I was checking into the senior classes of the 8 CCIW Schools. Elmhurst seemed to fall a little short this year, but with some good young talent, and a deep roster this should be changing. I wanted to see what other schools had coming back. I was quickly amazed by Augustana's roster. 1 senior??? How did this happen?

Doing a little research I noticed that Kevin Schlitter was a part of an at least 7 man recruiting class. What happened to the rest of the kids? I obviously haven't been following many CCIW programs closely since graduating, but this just seemed strange to me. That's a lot of kids from the same class to just "vanish" from the roster.

Anyways big game tomorrow night in Wheaton. I'm hoping to make the trip. I've played in a few HUGE games in the CCIW in King Arena and I know how special and awesome the atmosphere will be. Give my Wheaton by 2.

Here is a post I made from June 24, 2010 listing the kids who had made decisions to attend CCIW schools with plans on playing basketball...

I was quickly amazed by Augustana's roster. 1 senior???

Technically I think Augie has zero seniors.  I believe they consider Schlitter a junior in terms of basketball...he was granted a medical redshirt for last season and I assume he is going to use that 5th year.  (Coach G made reference to having "no seniors" in a Quad City newspaper article a few weeks back.)

Dave 'd-mac' McHugh

From my interview with Grey... that is the case. They consider themselves to have zero seniors on the squad.

The Schlitter recruiting class was one of Augie's worst in the Coach G. era. Augie has had some quality players leave the program in their junior and senior seasons, but none of them were in that class. Four years of Coach G. might be too much of a "good" thing for some players.

Congrats to Augie for winning the CCIW wrestling championship this week at NCC. The Vikings unseated defending champion Elmhurst, which has dominated the sport in recent years under Head Coach Steve Marianetti, former U of I All American.

Time for the big game -- IWU @WC for some important marbles.

My keys to the game.  I think Peters gets his as he's a great player, probably CCIW MOP, but Titans have to limit the others, defend the perimeter as Wheaton shoots the trey well too.  Basic stuff, but bears repeating, Titans have to win the TO and rebounding battles, take advantage of their superior size, strength inside with Davis, Zman, Dortch and Marietti -- and score there to open up the arc.  As usual, Titans need to continue shooting a good percentage, get to 78, and make FTs in the closing minutes.  Perhaps Nelson and Zimmer again important sparks off the bench.

For WC, will be tough for them to stop the Titan interior strengths.  They too, obviously, have to defend the perimeter, don't let Sodemann, Nelson, Zimmer, or Mayberger make a bunch of treys.  Pace of the game will be interesting, as Titans like up-tempo, WC probably more comfortable in their tight, surgical half-court sets, getting good looks, good shots.  WC would like to get the crowd into the game. . . get a few TOs to and convert them.  This could be a game of big swings, runs.  Both teams are very experienced and will need to weather the storm of runs when/if they happen.

Bench play could be key again, and here the Titans do have an advantage.  Time for Zman and Vic Davis to step up and play like the experienced, tough seniors they are.  Big time game needing big time plays.

Will be interesting early to see how the officiating is going to go -- hopefully at least consistently all game one way or the other.  Hopefully, the players and coaches will be able to figure it out early and adjust accordingly for the rest of the evening.  Would hate to see a game of this importance and likely level of play determined by poor or inconsistent officiating.  Could happen.

Great game at 5 p.m. too -- also with big time CCIW and D3 tournament implications -- for the women of WC and IWU.  Zeller and Colleen McMahon fighting it out for the CCIW scoring title, Titans needing a win to burnish their resume for possible Pool C consideration.  Both WC and IWU seem to be on the bubble to me.  Last regional rankings between the two teams at stake in this game, IMHO.  CC likely wins the CCIW title outright playing MU @ home Saturday.

********

Should be a great atmosphere, really top-notch match-ups to watch at both 5 p.m. and 7 p.m.

GO TITANS!!!

IWU70

P.S.  On baseball, just seems to me that CCIW schools should not be playing baseball before "Spring break" -- and most of the schools don't start until much later.  Schools have choices -- and this early start clearly puts the emphasis on travel, on the athletics more than on the student-athlete.  One can compete and have a very reasonable schedule of a baseball season by starting in mid- March or early April -- playing through May.  Do these students really need to play a 40-45 games schedule plus possible post-season play?  It's too much.  IMHO.

Earlier in the season I believe EC had a 7:00 start time posted on its site or in some other way communicated a 7:00 start. Otherwise, how did not only North Central, but also the CCIW and D3Hoops get the impression the game was at 7? All three websites listed the game as starting at 7:00. Additionally, the NCC woman's coaching staff was under the impression that their game was to begin at 5:00.  :-[

We head south from Lincoln, Nebraska this morning on our way to our new home in Dallas.  I hope to be set up in our hotel in Oklahoma City in time to watch the game.

Should be a great game with an amazing atmosphere at King Arena.  Go Titans!

If they want to get better, which most of them do, then yes it's a great thing. Baseball players get royally screwed by the weather living in the midwest or northeast and are so far behind the southern kids by April that they should jump at opportunities like this.

I don't think schools like Stanford, Oregon St, Cal or B10 schools have a problem with the travel and still getting their school work in so I see no reason to believe a CCIW school would either.
