Kiko is slow on the uptake. :)

York beats Rhode Island in the first game of the tournament, now faces Amherst who got the legit bye.

Keep singing guys.

Bah, it was too easy of a window.  They're only fun if 70 makes me work a bit for them.

Guess I have to bring Dawn Upshaw back into the conversation and make it easier for you!   :)

Still early here in Hong Kong, early afternoon that is.

Q, any thoughts on the IWU v Webster game? Seems like Webster has the size to match up with the Titans and a couple decent guards. These first round matchups are always hard to predict when teams from other conferences match up.

I'm intrigued, Usee.  I just don't know enough about Webster to have any feel for this matchup - I haven't seen them play at all this year.

I think the Titans will take care of business though.

Massey has this as a 22 pt win for the hosts:

I think that there may be a few teams with the size and speed to match up with IWU... but there aren't many who have the depth. Q's obviously watched many more games that I have this season... but in several of the games I've followed, teams were able to hang with IWU for a half or even 5 or 6 minutes into the second half... but then IWU's depth just wears them down and the Greenies win by double digits, going away.

I expect this to be one of the larger margins of victory tonight.

What concerns me for Wheaton tonight and in possible future rounds is foul trouble. Two quick fouls against Peters or Haynes, and that could be a deep hole to dig out of. We'll see how the refs call it on opening weekend.

Agree with this.  For that very reason, I'm guessing that Pete Smith(as opposed to Peters or Teuscher) will guard Strickland to start.  Smith is a pretty decent defender and will have 2-3 inches height advantage.

Unreasonable to think the Thunder will play as well as they did at IWU again.  But if they play a solid defensive game and rebound well, I like their chances.

USee

I would be shocked if Tyler Peters was not guarding Strickland to start the game. If he gets a foul then Schauer goes with Teuscher. That's how Wheaton has played every team with a star guard this season (see Malcom Kelly, Vince Kmiec).

USee

As I suspected Peters starts off on Strickland. He picks up an offensive foul at about the 15:00 mark and Teuscher checks Strickland from that point on

USee

And then Teuscher picked up 2 fouls and Peter Smith took over on Strickland. So we were both right!

. . . in any case, how many off the ball fouls can a crew call?

scottiedawg

3 fouls on Strickland, 3 on Peters. Wheaton leads 40-22.

Wheaton manages to hold on for 64-57 win, in spite of atrocious 6-20 from the free throw line (Peters contributed 2-11 to that) and subpar 2-9 from beyond the arc. They'll need to do a little better than that if they face Hope tomorrow, but a win is a win!
