"RECRUITING" NEWS

It has been confirmed that 6'6" 225 pound forward Charlie Rosenberg, who spent last season as a redshirt at D2 Minnesota State, will return to North Central next season for his final year of eligibility.
Should he be in the same shape, and be able to play at the same skill level that he demonstrated during 2013 summer league play, there is every reason to envision him as an all-conference player in 2014-15.

In Rosenberg's case I have no doubt that the redshirting was literal, as I'm guessing that a lot of the blood of his fellow Mustangs ended up on his practice jersey. ;)

Charlie Rosenberg is the proverbial "gets under your skin"/"pain in the ass" player that opponents love to hate.  ;)
He is at times his own worst enemy in that he sometimes plays with too big of a chip on his shoulder.  ::)
On those occasions when Charlie plays with his head in the game, his physicality and skill set can enable a potentially explosive and dominating performance.  ;D

NCC RECRUIT:

Hayden Witt, a 6'5" 220 pound SF from Lincoln-Way West will play at North Central.

Hayden, a Herald-News 1st team all-area selection, averaged 21.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, and 2.1 apg. He shot 78% from the line.
The leading scorer in LWW history, he totaled 1,196 points for his HS career.

John Carroll looks like a great recruit -- and surely he will be smarter now that he has selected IWU.  No doubt.  Welcome to IWU Mssr. Carroll.

:)

IWU70 -- greetings from warm sunny Minneapolis.

I don't hate Charlie Rosenberg. I simply fear for the lives of his opponents. ;)

May your fearful state be shared by all those that he opposes on the hardwood.   ;)   8-)

And One perfectly described Charlie Rosenberg's pros and cons. Sounds like NCC will be better in the post with Rosenberg and Hayden Witt, who I assume will get PT as a freshman. It's a tough league for freshmen to dominate although there have been notable exceptions (won't begin to name the impact freshmen of recent years).

Thank you Veteran.   :)

While the Cardinal coaching staff may very well have other ideas, I envision Jack Burchett, being listed as a forward, but essentially and effectively functioning in what is normally considered to be the post/5 position for NCC next season. I see Rosenberg primarily as the power forward or 4 spot. However, Charlie may occasionally move down low/inside, necessitating the emergence of an adequate backup at the 4. Witt should definitely see some PT as a freshman. However, rather than being positioned at the 4/5, my sense is that his best spot will be the 3, or even the 2 at times, in relief of the presumed starter and primary backup there. The prospect of a 6'5" 215 lb. 2 guard presents a very intriguing picture of definite matchup problems for the opposition. However, the primary 3s should be 6'4" Kevin Honn who played in every game last year, including 12 starts, and 6'5" David Robinson who was limited much of the year due to health problems which now seem to be resolved. Both Honn and Robinson have been showing well in open gym, but both need to spend some some time in the weight room this summer.

Additionally, I'd be surprised if further recruiting news for NCC should not be forthcoming.   :)

AO, surely sounds like North Central's prospects are turning up with these recruits and the return of Rosenberg, a very good player.

Happy Mom's Day to all the Moms out there.  I'm lucky to be with my Mom this day -- Helen Marie McNicol Sheldon, IWU Class of 1940, a grand and wise lady, the poetic voice of our family, now at 95.

Heading for Denver tomorrow -- a 16 + hour drive.  Looking forward to some golf in the clean, clear, thin mountain air.

It's easy to see why Brad Kruse ended up at Carthage; he's the son of former North Park star SG Freddie Kruse, who as an All-CCIW first-teamer in '82 and '83 played under assistant coach Bosko Djurickovic. Fred Kruse was one of the best shooters I've ever seen in this league.

Here's an amusing moment of CCIW-related humor from North Park's undergraduate commencement ceremony this past Saturday. The speaker is Judge Joyce Lefkow, one of two judges upon whom NPU bestowed the Nyvall Medallion for service to the Chicago community:

(It's under "videos", and is the smaller -- 02:25:14 -- version of the spring commencement ceremony. Judge Lefkow's bit starts at the 01:21:30 mark.)
