toooldtohop,

Couple optiions for restaurants in Kenosha....if you are looking for a great burger, I recommend Capt. Mike's in the downtown area....will be crowded on the weekend evenings, but a good atmosphere with plenty of beer choices on tap and create your own burgers with hundreds of options (try the cheese curds or the homemade mac and cheese if you are really hungry).  For Mexican, there is LaFogata just down the road from Carthage...good food and great Margarita's.

Thunder all over Benedictine at the half 49-35, and must be shooting at least 60-65% from the field.  Teuscher  being Teuscher.  Michael Berg with 10 or 12 points, most notably (and surprisingly to me and a few others on this board) 6 pts from solid post-ups in the paint.  Let's see if he can keep that up and if Wheaton can maintain the defensive and rebounding pressure once they inevitably cool off.  Now if DeMoss would stop turning the ball over . . .

Is anyone else having problems with the audio link to the North Park game?  I keep getting an error message ("track unavailable -- the track was deleted by its creator").  I sent an e-mail to the SID, but I'm hoping others are able to listen to the game.  North Park leads Eureka at the half, 35-31.

North Park topped Eureka, 77-66.  Leading Vikings scorers were Juwan Henry (21 pts), Colin Lake (17), and Jordan Robinson (16).

Juwan Henry: 21 pts (4-5 trey), 6:2 a:to, 4 blks
Colin Lake: 17 pts, 5 rebs, 5:3 a:to, 5 stls
Jordan Robinson: 16 pts, 7 rebs, 3 blks
Garrett Gatz: 12 pts, 3 stls
Michael Hutchinson: 6 rebs

I hope that the first-half audio difficulties were cleared up. The audio will be linked with the video for both halves in the archived copy of the game, so those of you who can't live without hearing my dulcet tones on a game call, fear not. ;)

Nice win for the Thunder over a good (and big) Benedictine team, 86-73.

A few observations:

Wheaton needs to get Nate Frank on the color commentary way more often.  So much insider knowledge of the game and the way it is coached and played.

Michael Berg committing to play with his back to the basket more will be very important for this team.  Can still tell he's not quite polished but he's big enough and quick enough where the defender has to respect it.  Keeps him inside where he can pick up 1 or 2 offensive boards also.

Brayden Teuscher will be a load for anybody in the league to stop.  He's not the big guard presence of Tyler Peters but has a myriad of offensive tools pulling up or driving the lane.  Great foul shooter also.

I'm not sure if BU's Blaszcyk is just that good (as he basically kept the game kind of close by himself) or Wheaton just needs to be better with team defense.  A little of both probably but I'm pretty convinced of the latter.  13 point win while shooting 62% from the field and 62% from the arc is really not that impressive.

Still lost the rebound battle

Yes, I was able to listen to the entire second half.  I e-mailed Kevin Shepke in the hopes he could troubleshoot during halftime, and he e-mailed me back.  Nice win for the Vikings!

IWU.   97
MSOE  63

Not really a contest tonight.  A very tough night for MSOE.  Nothing was really working for MSOE and everything was working for IWU.

IWU had a 40 point lead with 2nd - 13:16 to go.  Titans led at the half  by  29 (49 - 20) and finished the contest hitting 60 percent on the night.

Titans were led by Mike Maretti and Ryan Coyle with 13 points each.  Titans used 15 players tonight.  No starter or sub played more than 19 minutes.

I had no problem with the NP Viking audio, but could not figure out the Livestream chat option.  I am registered yet the screen said "Moderator Only."  Could this mean Greg Sager, on-line analyst?

Greg and the Vikings performed admirably tonight.  I am sorry to have personally missed the home court victory as victories this year will be few with this team.  Last year I attended more football games than basketball games; I am hoping to not repeat.

* Ryan Coyle: 13 pts, 6 reb
* Mike Marietti: 13 pts, 5 reb
* Alec Bausch: 9 pts, 9 reb
* Pat Sodemann: 9 pts, 3 reb, 7 assists
* Trevor Seibring: 8 pts, 9 reb

* IWU: 26 assists, .582 FG. .579 3-point

* Titans out-rebounded MSOE 45-29; held to .355 FG and 9 assists

This was a really impressive performance by IWU.  The Titans were terrific defensively right out of the gates and did a great job on preseason 1st Team all-American Austin Stueck.  Offensively, IWU passed the ball and ran the floor incredibly well.  The Titans led 49-20 at halftime.

IWU appears to be very talented and very deep, and things are starting to really click with this new rotation.  I think Ron Rose has another really good team.

I'm heading to Memphis Saturday morning -- really excited to see the Titans play 2 games in person.

Enjoyed the enthusiasm of the NPu team in their win over eureka. Undersized, but scrappy.  My 49th NPu home opener.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

I'm thinking about heading to Carthage next weekend for the two day tournament.  Anybody have hotel recommendations and maybe a restaurant or two?
Thanks!

tooold--

Check the Carthage web site for possible hotels. The hotels listed on the various school sites usually have an arrangement with the school and offer discounts for school related activities. Call the hotel and tell them you are coming in for a Carthage event and you may be able to get a discounted rate.

That's a good tip that's always worth repeating whenever someone considers following a team on the road for a tournament. Thanks, Mark.

Thanks guys.  In fact, I did check their site.  I was just hoping for a little local knowledge or input from experienced people in Kenosha or from fans that have traveled there in the past.

On another note, the Thunder played quite well against Benedictine this evening.  U of Chicago on Tuesday.  Which Wheaton team will show up?

I'm not even a Wheaton fan, but I listened to a couple of broadcasts from WC last year on which Nate Frank was doing color, and I thought him excellent.

Yes, BU's Mike Blaszczyk IS good! He is on pace to score 1,400 points over the course of his career after scoring 350 as a freshman last year. On top of that, Mike is a really nice guy.

MSOE returns 3 starters from a 21-5/16-4 team, including D3hoops.com preseason 1st Team All-American Austin Stueck, a 6-3 wing.  The Raiders were picked 2nd in the NACC, behind Aurora and ahead of Benedictine.  On Saturday they lost at home to Benedictine by 1.

Should be a good test for IWU and another chance to see where the Titans are.

Well, if this was a test, the Green Team must have gotten an A+ as they basically obliterated MSOE.
Lots of eye popping stats but, for me, the most impressive of all might be 26 assists. Wow.

* I was surprised to see Seibring starting in place of Marietti. Did he just flat beat Marietti out, or is Mr. M injured? The IWU fans I spoke with that night were also very surprised at seeing him start.

Marietti has been dealing with a bad case of plantar fasciitis since the practice season-- he has limited mobility.  Ron Rose has been using Marietti for about 15 minutes per game to spell Trevor Seibring.

IWU is fortunate to have two good 6-8 5s...a tough position to fill nowadays at the D3 level.  The Titans have been good at that spot for 40 minutes a game so far:
* Seibring: 9.3 ppg, 7.0 rpg, .556 FG
* Marietti: 6.0 ppg, 4.8 rpg, .647 FG

As Seibring continues to get comfortable, and as Marietti gets healthy, IWU will get better and better in the low post.
