I am now convinced that the CCIW is probably a candidate for D1 admission in the near future.  :o

That's a nice win over UWSP by the Cardinals.

Point just isn't very good right now and I don't think they'll contend for a WIAC title this year.  Maybe you think it's a good win because it's against the WIAC or because it's Stevens Point. But as AndOne mentioned,  Point is nothing like last year's team. Even in their wins, they struggled against middle-of-the-pack teams from average conferences in St. John's and Edgewood (OT win).

Off the top of my head, I compare this team with the team after Point's second of B2B National Championships. That year they lost Kalsow, Bennett and Maus. Jon Krull was left to man the fort. They ended up 17-10 that year. This year, it's Joe Ritchay's job to man that fort. I'm anticipating another year similar to 2005-2006. Unless Ryf and Richard can contribute consistently and someone besides Ritchay can create shots (Pelkofer?), it's going to be a long year.

On second thought,  Greg, I will give NCC credit for a "nice win" over Point. It was against a historically quality opponent on the road. Quandt is a tough place for visitors to leave with a win, but I do stand by my statement that this year's edition is not very good.  >:(  :)

Anytime you are a still evolving team that is continuing to see where the puzzle pieces, many of them new, best fit in order to fully establish the rotation, and you go on a 4 hour bus ride to play at a nationally ranked opponent and come away with a W, it's a "nice win." Point may not be as good as last year, especially not having 2 stars, but NCC also lost considerable star power.  And, UWSP still has talent, and in this case also had the advantage of home court in a historically tough place to play.  ;)

... and Mark's point is precisely why I said that it was a "nice win," Tom. I realize that your Pointers are down this season, but any win over UWSP in Quandt has to go down as a "nice win," because a 17-10 WIAC squad playing on its own floor is probably going to beat 90% of the teams in D3 on a given night.

You have to remember that your "not very good" assessment of the 2014-15 Pointers is a relative one, Tom. What constitutes "not very good" by UWSP standards is a reason for a ticker-tape parade at other schools. To put it bluntly, you've been spoiled. ;)

Been there, done that. As a fan, getting your head outside of a multi-national-championship program in order to gain an objective perspective on what really constitutes success is not an easy thing to do until the W-L records start to tell you that it's all over. To quote Joni Mitchell, "Don't it always seem to go that you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone."

Mr. Ypsi

I can identify with being spoiled.  I just yearn to be AS spoiled as NPU or UWSP (and now UWW)! ;D

Final Fours are wonderful, but I'm getting damned tired of going one and done. :(  It is especially hard since we NEVER get our doors blown off; instead it is a whole off-season of coulda-shoulda-woulda.

Greek Tragedy

Yeah, I know how you feel, Greg, it's been awhile for the Pointers too...going on 5 years?  :'( >:( ;D :D

Ypsi, this could be the year.  Lots of talent on this IWU team, and the new guys at the 4 and 5 developing very fast.  Augie will be tough to beat, but I'm pretty confident our Titans will be right there.

Back to the Far Side today.

All best for the holidays -- all of them upcoming - to all the CCIW chatsters.  The Year of the Ram soon upon us! :)

Woulda-coulda-shoulda attending last year's Final instead of going on a bike ride with the wife?  :o  ;D

Should be another great conference battle once the calendar turns. Some great and/or very good teams have a chance. Very impressive nonconference W/L % for the CCIW. And IWU has a chance to add lustre by beating Chicago (at Shirk) and Wash. U. (in St.L.) on consecutive Saturdays. One comment about IWU's offense in 2 Memphis games: In both games, IWU was on a 3 points per minute pace midway through 1st half. Centenary had a lot of talent. They are an above average D3 team.

As the wise man said: "Happy wife.  Happy life." ;D

I had little incentive, since IWU was not in the title game.  How was I to know it would be an instant classic?

North Central moves into the Top 25 at #22, joining #1 Augie, and #9 IWU.
The Cardinals need to use this as an incentive to challenge themselves to play well on a consistant basis in order that they remain among the nation's top teams.

After downing then #11 Stevens Point in Wisconsin this past Sat, the NCC Cardinals Road Warriors continue their month long road trip when they meet tomorrow morning at 7:00 to fly to California to take on Pamona-Pitzer on Thurs, and University of Redlands on Sat. Following those games, they journey to the Juniata College (PA) tournament where they will face #12 Dickinson, an Elite Eight member last season, and an as yet unknown opponent. Next up is a short trip on 12/17 to neighboring Benedictine, a winner over then #4 IWU. The long series of away games concludes with a trip to the Mt. Union (OH) tournament where they will play Olivet and Adrian on 12/27 and 12/28.
No home games for the Cards between 11/25 when they beat Aurora, and 1/3/15 when they open CCIW play against IWU.
