NCC is certainly bothered by Dickinson's length, but the bigger problem is that the Cardinals are not knocking down their open midrange shots. I'm reminded again of my thoughts regarding the big men of the Red Devils from when I saw them play Wesleyan last season: a lot of finesse, very little strength. Every low-post move for them is a turnaround jumper, a fadeaway, or some variation of a running hook. The only big men in this game who go straight to the rim when they get the ball down low are Burchett and Rosenberg.

I think that NCC is going to pull away in the second half and win by a comfortable margin.

Well, it looks like I jinxed the Cardinals. I've gotta remember to use that trick on January 24 and February 21. ;)

It was hard to tell, due to the herky-jerky buffering from the live stream in the second half, but it looked as though NCC's shooting woes continued into the second half. And Dickinson seemed to be more active at both ends of the floor, from what I was able to see.

Looked to me like NCC lost to a little better team.  The way the game was called (tightly) certainly didn't favor the Cardinals, but Dickinson is a well coached, talented team with a lot of weapons.  I think this result, on a neutral court, is a pretty good indication of how these two teams stack up against each other.

NCC is a good team - Rosenberg is a beast, Burchett is a good CCIW center, and Moten is one of the best guards in the league.  The Cardinals can play with anyone in the league.

Good game to have Marietti back.

6-8 Marietti won't be back until the CCIW opener.

It's a big loss that really affects IWU's rotation.  With Marietti, IWU is much better team.

Too bad about Marietti.  Pgraph earlier reported he would be back for Wash U.  Thumb or foot?  Seibring is doing a great job, but surely would be good to have Marietti healthy and back and in the rotation.  More minutes for Bausch.

Too bad about NCC -- perhaps we'll see Dickinson again down the road.  Sure do have a big line-up.

Good luck to the Titans in St. Louis.  Should be another very good D3 game.

Speaking of St. Norbert, they have nine freshmen this year - seven from WI and two from IL.

Perhaps a few of those freshmen were intending to matriculate at Carthage but missed the exit on I-94.  ::)

Yes, four postseason wins, three time getting tripped up by the CIW.  But take it back three more years and...

Also, it looks like IWU will pull away in the second half...it is not crazy if it works.

Greg, I was only able to catch the last two minutes of your broadcast of NPU's win over Trine today.  Kudos on the win and greater kudos on a top-quality job flying solo on the broadcast.  It was really well-done.

The primary reason NCC suffered their 1st defeat of the season last night was that they forgot how to play the tough type of defense that the Cardinals staff teaches and demands. Against the much taller Dickinson Red Devils, the Cards collected an equal number of rebounds, committed only 9 turnovers for the entire game, and actually out scored the Devils in the paint by +2 points. All positive signs. However, their offensive efficiency was limited by not enough movement on that end of the floor. Also, the Cardinals lost their igniter for the stretch run when Jayme Moten fouled out with about 5 minutes remaining.
From a defensive perspective-ugh.
* No hands up on D. Thus allowing lots of open shots with little opposition, and helping the Red Devils shoot 54.3% from the field.
* People too often able to drive around their man. And, poor defensive help/switching off, and helping the helper after they did so.
* The Cardinals committed 28 fouls compared to Dickinson's 16. This sent the Devils to the line 11 more times than the Cards, and they converted 7 more FTs.
* However, the most glaring defensive transgression appeared on the perimeter where the Cardinals allowed the opposition to shoot 8 of 18. This is a percentage of 44.4% which is about 15% higher than where the Cardinls want to be.

NCC was led in both points and rebounds by Charlie Rosenberg with 19 and 7. Jack Burchett added 16 points, and Jayme Moten had 10 before fouling out. The Cards got good help off the bench from Erwin Henry with 11, and Evan Fendley with 7. The next goal up for the Cardinals will be to enter the conference portion of the schedule with only 1 loss.

Looking forward to watching the IWU-WUISL game.
I want to see how good Wash U is.
I know how good the Green Team is.
