Any teams in D3 called the Rams? (some say goat!), . . . guess it's their year.

Greg, like so many things about you, I do admire your loyalty to NPU and your great knowledge and wit on this board.  No doubt.

In my generation, as Ypsi has mentioned a few times, when I see BLUE I see red.  And, like all good IWU fans, we hope Green prevails, always.

Should be an interesting rest of the season.  I'm hoping IWU wins the three home games @Shirk now and goes to Rock Island for a big game 12-4, 4-1.  We'll see.  No game is going to be easy this season, even at home.

Thanks Pat, knew there must be one or more Rams teams somewhere in D3.  Probably none for Goats or Sheep, right?  This Chinese zodiac year is  translated in various ways -- Year of the Ram, Year of the Sheep, Year of the Goat . . . you get the picture.  I'm mentioning this just to be sure that all the CCIW Chatsters know what Year is upcoming for the other 2-3 billion.  It's part of their liberal education here on the board.   :)

Anyway, the lunar new year is not 'til mid-Febraury this year -- so a later than usual celebration here along Victoria's Harbour, in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the Peoples' Republic of China.  We'll all have our yellow umbrellas out for use by then, I'm sure, tear gas and police batons notwithstanding.

As far as I can ascertain, there are actually 5 D3 teams named Rams.
However, it's evidently NOT their year as none of them have a winning record.

* The top Rams record belongs to Suffolk Univ (MA) 6-6
* Framingham State (MA) 5-7
* North Central (MN) 3-6
* Farmingdale State (NY) 2-9
* And trailing the Rams field, Cornell College (IA) 2-10

Delaware Valley's teams are called the Aggies, but the mascot is a ram.

They are 7-6. Ram-a-lamb-a-ding-dong!

Doesn't seem this year is a good year for Rams.  Maybe next year will be their year.

Look forward to the Titans vs. Carthage.  IWU hanging banners at Shirk -- for last year's Final Four men's basketball team and also for this fall's women's soccer, also making it to the national semis.  Yet another banner.

Mr. Ypsi

Final from Bloomington:  Titans 73, Redmen 61.  Carthage led much of the first half, and the Titans would have been in deep doo-doo if not for Dylan Overstreet.  Much of that time, he had more than half the Titan points, and had 14 by halftime.  Other Titans finally came alive late in the half, and they led 36-31.  The second half was a good team effort, with special kudos to Mike Marietti, who finished with 19 points and 10 rebounds.  Dylan led all scorers with 20, and had half their assists (like a pg should, I suppose).  The Titans led by a fairly comfortable margin almost the entire second half, but never could totally shake those pesky guys from Kenosha - kudos to them!

Greg, is that a picture of you gagging on the performance of the NPU basketball and football teams over the years?

Dude, there are five good reasons why NPU basketball will never make me gag that are hanging from the crackerbox rafters.

Mark, you sure walked into that one!  Since we graduated, NPU has five national titles, we have one, the rest of the conference zero.  But, Greg, better get that machine cranked up again - Whitewater is up to four, Plattesville also has four, and Stevens Point has three. :P

(And among the better looking, though shorter, bballers, WashU already has matched your five, and is undefeated so far this season. ;))

Well "played" Apple.   :)

Yes, Titans grind one out at home, playing better in the second half.  Not shooting the three very well at home, Nelson with a poor shooting night.  Strong games from Overstreet, Marietti and Coyle.  Give credit to CC, they hung with the Titans most of the way.  I think the Titan depth really played a part tonight.

Gotta keep grinding them out, esp. this three game home stretch.

Tonights scores:

Illinois Wesleyan 73, Carthage 61 at the Shirk
Elmhurst 74, Millikin 60 at the Griz
North Central 75, Wheaton 70 in OT at King Arena
Augie 88, North Park 51 at the Carver Center

Another tough one for the Thunder last night.  Bottom line is Moten and Henry hit the key shots when they needed to and Wheaton just didn't despite uncontested wide open looks for Pete Smith. Wheaton should have gotten a chance to tie or win in OT as NCC had a close shot clock violation, but didn't get the call.  Definitely not the reason for the loss- numerous chances to win including in regulation.

I never thought I'd see a Wheaton team play that much zone defense which they did for probably 25 out of 45 minutes.  I'm guessing this was an effort to keep guys out of foul trouble and stay a little fresher rather than anything to counter NCC.  The play of Berg and Joel Smith continues to be very encouraging and FR Murad Dillard gave some solid minutes. At 0-3, conference tourney doesn't look good but this team might be capable of stealing a road win.

With 22 points including 6 three pointers, Jayme Moten played a tremendous game throughout the course of the entire contest, and Erwin Henry hit the majority of his 12 points, particularly his 2 threes, at a couple of the most important junctures of the game. However, with all due respect, the bottom line in last night's contest was the fact that Wheaton had no answer for Charlie Rosenberg who set new career highs in both points, with 27, and rebounds, with 14. To cap his dominating performance, Charlie chipped in 4 steals. Should the Cardinals win conference, Rosenberg will almost certainly be the CCIW POY, and such will still be a strong possibility if NCC finishes as the runner-up.
Last night was the second consecutive game in which Charlie has established a career high high in points. Jack Burchett and Joe Kennnell scored 10 and 4 points respectively, with Burchett also having a game high 6 assists, and Kennell 5.

NCC held a 10 point lead with about eight minutes left in the first half, and let Wheaton whittle it to only 4 at intermission. Wheaton then was up by 7 with only 4:1remaining in regulation, but let the Cardinals come back to knot things up with slightly over a minute left, and to out score the hosts 11-6 in the OT period.

For Wheaton, Joel Smith is much more aggressive (19 shots!) than in years past, and Michael Berg has entered the next life as someone who no longer seems afraid to battle inside for both points and rebounds. Berg, who fouled out, has even added a degree of chippyness to his game with frequent moving screens, and a seeming penchant for extending his foot into the path of an opposing player.

WWIII looks set for 7:00 Wednesday evening when the 13-1 North Central Cardinals entertain the likewise 13-1 Augustana Vikings at "The Hangar" in beautiful downtown Naperville.

Augie was the Coaches Poll pick to capture the CCIW conference championship, while the Cardinals were picked to finish in a  4th place tie with Elmhurst.

With Wash U losing yesterday afternoon, the Cards will likely be welcoming the nation's new #1 team to town. Helmets and shoulder pads optional.  ;)
