Former NPU forward Mark Holmes is now playing pro ball with BC Winterthur in Switzerland. He's just recently joined the team. I'm a little irritated that his college is listed as Mississippi Valley State on BC Winterthur's Eurobasket page, but I know where Mark's loyalties lie. ;)

I'm guessing that his contract prohibits him from skiing, which is too bad.

Depth had always been a strength on Coach G's Augie teams. However, I doubt that will be enough to pull them through tonight in Naperville. Road wins are at a premium and seldom come on the home court of the elite teams in the CCIW.

IWU 52 MU 30 at the half.  Nelson with 18 first half points on 5-5 from the distance realms.  Titans hitting on all cylinders tonight.  High percentage, active O and D, 11 deep in the rotation.  Marietti struggling, Sodemann with 3 fouls.

Looks like Augie up 7 at the half in the big big game with NCC.

IWU 93
Millikin 60

* Jordan Nelson: 28 points, 4 rebounds (9-10 FG, 7-8 3-point, 3-3 FT)

IWU over MU 93-60, leading all the way.

Nelson 28 -- 6 or 7 treys
Pennington 14 - an excellent overall game
Overtreet -- his consistent game, 11

15 Titans got into the game, 12 scoring. I'm delighted to say that B. Heyen was one of them, seeing at long last some well-deserved varsity minutes.  He scored 2 points.  I was clapping for him all the way over here in Hong Kong!  Talk about loyalty to the program, after so many years, so many injuries.  Good for him.

Another good tune-up for the Titans.  Titan bigs struggled a bit tonight, esp. Marrieti, and MU did a good job at rebounding and FT shooting.  But, just too many weapons, too many treys by the Titans.

NPU at home up next -- then the big trip to Rock Island.

Augie over NCC 75-64.  Impressive win by the Vikes on the road.

The box score I saw from Wheaton didn't show Michael Berg.  Is that a mistake or is he now out too?

Wheaton inexplicably comes away with a victory over NPU 88-82 in, for those who watched, 105 minutes of our lives that we'll never get back.   A really terrible game where DeMoss and Teuscher both foul out(as did Juwan Henry) and the Thunder commit 28 ugly turnovers resulting in a mere 43 FG attempts, 22 fewer than the Vikings(65).  Never a recipe for success except when the team shoots a blistering 62.8% from the field including 14/21 from the arc(where were those last week?).  Wheaton depth even thinner tonight as Michael Berg was out after cutting his hand in practice yesterday.  Thankfully not season ending like Luis Miller and Riley Teuscher (torn ACLs).

Other takeaways:  Joel Smith continues to look very good, playing tough inside and gaining confidence with every game, 16 and 4 in only 22 foul-plagued minutes.   FR Murad Dillard was thrust into action without Berg, playing a solid 31 mins, 14 pts, 7 boards although 6 TOs.  He is showing a lot of potential as is New Trier product FR Ricky Samuelson who also played a pretty 18 good mins.  Won the board battle +13.

A win is still a win.

Does he have a contract with Lenscrafters for his 3 goggles?  ???

First time I had a chance to see Augie in person this year. A really nice effort against a strong opponent. Lots of fouls on both sides with Augie shutting down Burchett, while Daniel Jurgutis had a career game. Major road victory in the tough CCIW.

Augustana could lose at IWU and Elmhurst. Elmhurst has 2 losses and still has two very tough road games at IWU and NCC. NCC losing at home with 3 tough road games at IWU, Augie and Elmhurst. And Wheaton could win at home if they make their 3s like they did tonight. The next big game is IWU at Augie a week from tonight (it's still before midnight Central time). IWU playing well. Nelson put on a shooting clinic tonight. A classic performance. What an elite shooter his is (now 25/56 on 3s for year).

Yes, Nelson brilliant tonight.  No Lenscrafters needed.   Such a smooth stroke, one of the treys from way beyond the NBA arc.  He's hitting his stride after a slow start, now in the starting line-up.  His high-quality back-up, Bryce Dolan, also had an excellent game tonight, 9 points and 6 assists.  The IWU bigs will have to play much tougher, with more authority against the top CCIW teams, esp. Augie.  Great to see Heyen on the floor tonight in mop-up time.  For Augie, Marietti, Seibring, Coyle and Bausch have to really step up.  For re-match with NCC too.  I think the overall schedule is a pretty good arrangment, sequence for the TITANS.

A bit surprised that Carthage beat Elmhurst.  Something of an upset.

The Pantagraph article on the IWU/Millikin game:

BLOOMINGTON — Millikin basketball coach Matt Nadelhoffer asked if Illinois Wesleyan senior Jordan Nelson missed a shot Wednesday at Shirk Center.

When told Nelson did indeed miss once, Nadelhoffer replied, "He probably got fouled."
