Mr. Ypsi

Augie wins 77-73 in OT.

IWU wins 79-70 in OT.

That the Titans could not beat the injury-riddled (and height-challenged) Thunder in regulation I attribute to the disturbance of the universe's equilibrium produced by Greg rooting for Wheaton. :o  (Well, that and a truly abysmal shooting performance until OT. ;))

and IWU playing stupid ball - shots too early in the shot clock, bad passes, settling for outside shots when having success inside.  When you win the battle on the boards 40 - 28 you should be able to win without going to OT.  On the plus side, the FT shooting I have seen from an IWU team in a long time 20-22 90.9%.    Titans almost got thunder struck tonight but pulled out a W.

Proud of the Thunder who played their hearts out tonight and, once again for the 3rd or 4th loss, had plenty of chances to win it in regulation if anybody at all in orange could have hit a key basket.  Surprisingly, they played a solid man/man defense all game for 40 minutes and the Titans were not able to blow it open a couple times.  But they really broke down in the OT when the Green overall depth of talent came to the fore.  Once again badly outrebounded -12.  A real tough one to swallow.

If only Wheaton could've finished, road teams would've gone 4-0 tonight.

Way to go NPU getting a nice win on the road in Kenosha!

Congrats to Augie for holding off EC.  Keeps the inside track atop the standings but with a tough test coming on Saturday in Chicago.

And as we make a turn for the truly surreal, Millikin Big Blue take down NCC in the Hangar.  Can only imagine what is going through Coach Raridon's head these days after losing 4 out of their last 5.  They need to right the ship and fast.

Titan Q

IWU 79
Wheaton 70 (OT)

http://www.iwusports.com/boxscore.aspx?id=2904&path=

* Dylan Overstreet: 18 pts, 3 reb, 6 assists
* Trevor Seibring: 16 pts, 8 reb
* Alec Bausch: 6 pts, 13 reb

* Brayden Teuscher: 24 pts, 8 reb
* Peter Smith: 13 pts, 9 reb

Dylan Overstreet is really a great player -- he bailed the Titans out tonight.

As Scott Trost used to say, "Never apologize for a win."

Agree here.  Coming out of the TO with a couple mins left and WC up by 3, you could tell Overstreet was not going to give up the ball.  Didn't even look to pass but just took it to the rack 2 straight times, went to the line and made 3 out of 4 foul shots to tie the game.

Teuscher tried to answer, but it's much tougher when he is all Wheaton has (and he really is all they have this year).

Given that I am a Viking football fan from MN (we're up North) who believes da Bears who hail from the Midwest, and not the North, are the primary foe.  I cannot envision any scenario when I would root for a Bear victory.

Yes, I rooted for The Pack to beat Denver in the Super Bowl.

I myself am puzzled that Gregory would (a) consider an outlier Wheatie year to make them a have-not, and (b) allow David>Goliath to take priority over the warm fuzzy feelings that would come should the Thunder finish South of the Vikings in this year's standings.

IWU won game at the line against the best FT shooting team in the nation. IWU: 20/22  90.9% Wheaton: 17/20 85.0% Teuscher, a 91.3% FT shooter prior to the game, was "only" 6/8 with the 2 misses in regulation. Overstreet saved IWU in regulation and Nelson was instrumental in OT with a great feed (high risk-high reward type of interior bounce pass) for a layup ( I think by Bausch who had a team high 13 RBs in 26 minutes, by far his most minutes in any prior game) to give IWU a 2 point lead after the initial OT possession and then he found Brady Rose for a 3 pointer that gave Titans a 5-point lead early in OT. He also had an above rim defensive RB later in OT. For the game, Nelson had 4 As and no TOs in 30 minutes, the most impressive A/TO stat for any IWU guard. Overstreet finished with 6As and 3 TOs in 33 minutes. Tough game. Teuscher would be a serious MOP candidate if he played for a contender. He is literally unguardable. I would pick him in a heartbeat over Hunter Hill in designing my first team all-conference team.

Yes, Titans dodge a bullet tonight, not playing all that well, better in OT when WC had a small let-down.  WC is a very good, disciplined team.  Overstreet was superb, 18 and 6 assists.  Seibring a very strong game, one of few by Titan players tonight, 16 and 8.  Bausch his most oustanding game as a Titan with the 6 and 13 performance, several good hustle plays, good energy when needed.  One of those tough regulation time games in the low 60s, which the Titans normally lose.  20-22 at the FT line the savior, 6-6 in OT.  Teuscher is outstanding, I agree better than Hill.  So strong, impossible to stop tonight, finished 24 and 8.  Other WC players also had good games, played well.  Titans lucky to get it to OT and then bring a key home court win home.  Titans shooting 24% from 3 normally go down, but not tonight.  I was about to question the use of Brady Rose in the rotation as he has not been as productive as Dolan or Pennington, but young Brady hit two very key treys tonight and had 8 points overall.  A key contribution.

Tough loss for EC.  They fought back hard and almost nipped the Doggies.  Some great games around the league.  Really surprised NCC lost again.  NPU is looking tougher and tougher as the season progresses.

As has been mentioned, final @The Shirk was 79-70 in OT.  Titans got to 78, won the game, but took a special extra stanza to do it tonight.

Keep it rolling Titans -- one win at a time.  The Doggies are coming to The Shirk soon enough.

My apologies for being a basket off on the score that I posted of the IWU/Wheaton clash.  The video and live stats were slooooowwww to keep the score updated in a timely fashion.

I watched the Augie/Elmhurst game.  Good competition, but both teams looked a little slow to me.   Ackerman really stepped up for EC in the second half.

Thanks, Q -- for these postings.  I have really enjoyed the play of Bausch so far this year.  A real energy guy that likely has more offensive game than we realize.  13 rebounds in any CCIW game is quite a performance.  I thought Trevor Seibring had an excellent game vs. WC as well.

I thought this matchup hurt Wheaton the most.  Joel Smith has made good strides offensively this year in playing from the post.  However, he has yet to learn how to defend down low without committing fouls which is really key.  He could not manage Seibring on the defensive end which might explain his pretty poor performance offensively - 1 for 6, 0/3 from 3pt, didn't get to the line, and a paltry 1 rebound.

Great game in Elmhurst last night!  The Bluejays rallied from 11 down with about 6:30 to go to force OT.  Elmhurst never lead until OT.  I think the Bluejays ran out of gas in OT.  They were very tired.  They missed too many free-throws down the stretch in regulation and in OT.  Kudos to Augie for keeping their composure.

Elmhurst has lost twice to Augustana by a total of 6 points.  Maybe they can meet again on February 27 or 28?
