Something I have heard rumblings about... not sure it will happen, but worth keeping in mind. The Central has strong enough candidates for the NCAA tournament that at-large bids could end up coming from those not "officially" ranked. It happened in the women's Central region a couple of year ago... not unheard of... just thought I would keep it on people's radars.

With the demise of 'once ranked - always ranked', how would we ever know?  The ONLY rankings that matter are the ones we can't see.  (If NPU makes it to the title game of the conference tourney, loses, but gets a C, THEN we can believe! ;D)

Saturday should be HUGE.  NPU and NCC fighting to continue their seasons; Elmhurst and IWU possibly fighting to keep Pool C hopes alive.  On a lesser note, Wheaton fighting for arguably their biggest win of the season; Millikin and Carthage fighting to avoid the basement.

Oh... I think we can figure it out when more teams get into the tournament than the rankings would allow!

Looking at Knightslappy's list http://tomaroonandgold.blogspot.com/p/division-iii-mens-regional-rankings.html

after the 8 ranked Central teams you have Chicago(who is very sketchy as C)......then its pretty much just North Park, Platteville, Monmouth. I don't see one of those teams happening  from this region.  Williams is currently the only team that might get pulled from "off the rankings" onto the Pool C table and they have a lot of losses.

I look at his data all the time... I have a direct link to the raw data... he and I also talk several times a week.

I think, once again, my comments are being confused as to either what will happen or is my opinion will happen (this occurred on another board for those on this that aren't following). I am simply presenting another point of view and information I have been able to gather over the weeks. It is simply for info and conversation. There is no opinion stated and I am not stating it will happen. I am just trying to give some insight to allow people to better understand the nuances.

Please just take what I am writing as informational. If I have an opinion on something or feel a certain way, I will state that accordingly. But nothing about teams being selected that aren't officially regionally ranked is more than just something I thought people might be interested in hearing.

Your comment was something like the central region is deep enough an unranked team could get pulled into the at-large conversation.  I was showing that isn't likely to happen from this region.

I too was just providing information. :)

Some great games upcoming.  I'll be cheering for NPU over NCC, then to beat the Doggies in the first semi of the CCIW tourney.  IWU vs. EC should be a good one, with all the emotions by both teams needed to get above the bubble, all the tradition of the IWU program over the years in attendance for the inauguration of the Dennie Bridges Court.  Would love it even further if WC upsets the Doggies for their last game this year too.

Happy Year of the Ram (or if you prefer, Goat or Sheep!) to all my CCIW Chatster friends and comrades.  May your New Year be filled with prosperity, happiness and good health.

While I am busy polling our students on the most important questions in life, let me say, the consensus opinion so far is that it is indeed the year of the goat.

Good point.

So there should be lots of NCC fans in Elmhurst on Sat!  :)

OK North Park faithful, I'll leave it up to you. 20 years of following these guys, 15 years of announcing. I take this year off, and the only game I attend they lose by 40.

Am I allowed to drive to Naperville on Saturday?

Blue,

You are perfectly welcome to drive to beautiful downtown NaPPerville tomorrow, where there is always a plethora of activities in which to engage. However, if the primary intent of your journey is to attend the basketball game which will be played in Merner Fieldhouse (The Hangar) on the campus of North Central College at 7:00 PM, you should know that due to a huge advance sale, the game is already a sellout. Accordingly, unless you arrive with a ticket already in hand, there will be no room at the inn.  ;)

North Park's got a student bus going to the game tomorrow. The bus is sponsored by NPU's University Ministries. UMin or not, I do not anticipate that the North Park student section will be singing "Kumbaya" at the airplane hangar tomorrow night. ;)

Good luck to NPU tomorrow.  I hope the Vikings from Chicago get the W . . . and the Vikings from RI take a loss to the Crusaders, er, Thunder.

Go TITANS!

Anyone know how often The Hangar sells out?

Believe it or not, its not that common of an occurance.  :o
The last sellout was for the win over IWU in the 3rd round of the national tournament on 3/16/13. The crowd that evening was SRO!  8-)
