Here is a possible, though unlikely, Final 4:

Ohio Wesleyan
Wesleyan
Virginia Wesleyan
Illinois Wesleyan

I'm sure John and Charles would be pleased. ::)

I am not sure a bye to play Wash U in the second round is a big favor. Probably the toughest matchup of any in round 2 for both teams. Oh well.

Better than a first round match-up against Dubuque or St. Norbs with DePauw-Washington University waiting in the second round.

Per Coach G, Augie is the #1 overall seed...

Vikes #1 overall seed in NCAA tourney! Tip off Saturday at 7pm in Carver vs winner of DePauw / Washington U!

Greek Tragedy

Nice reward, could get 2nd best team in #1 conference in Round 2.

This is awesome!

As an aside, to whoever smited me in the last hour or so, I normally could not care less about karma, but I would love to know what I said.  If it was about Elmurst, well, that was how the NCAA spelled it on the selection show.

Greek Tragedy

I should smite you for worrying about your karma.  ;D

We all know Coach G is more than a little full of himself. :D I doubt Augie is the #1 overall seed. Probably #1 in their 15 team bracket.

Whatever the seeding I do think the regular season and conference tourney champ in a conference with 3 teams in the tourney should not have to face a team of Wash U's caliber until the Sweet 16. I don't think it is fair to Wash U, the school where I got my post graduate degree, either.

A bye is not always a good thing. Frequently the first games in a playoff or tourney is kind of ugly. Augie does not want an ugly first game agains a team like Wash U (or DePauw for that matter). Wash U is no lock to beat Dan Quayle's alma mater. Of course, the home court should help the Vikings, especially with the students back from Spring break.

Having been given the first round bye it's likely that Augustana is the #1 overall seed on that half of the brackets.  Whether they're seeded over Randolph Macon to #1 seed on the other side is debateable.

Congratulations to IWU and Elmhurst on well deserved spots in the tourney. Can anyone give me a good reason for having 62 teams rather than just going with 64 and eliminating the two byes? I think with 64 teams NCC would be in too.

Still a lot better than the days of 48 teams and only 7 at large berths. I will always feel that the 20-5 Drew Carstens led Augie team that tied IWU and Carthage for 1st place was the best CCIW team ever that did not make the NCAAs. IWU was the only CCIW team in the tourney that year and made it to the Sweet 16. Drew Carstens is one of my top 3 favorite Augie players and certainly deserved to have at least one chance to play in the NCAA tourney. Glad things are fairer today.

number of d3 teams (430?) divided by (x?) equals 62 Pat Coleman has the formula somewhere on the boards but cannot find it

Greek Tragedy

This one of the years when byes went to teams that actually deserved them.

Agreed, Greek.  I knew there was no way both Augustana and WHITEWATER would get byes.  If one of the two were awarded the bye Augustana definitely deserved it over us.

I'd say you were both deserving, though.
