Another NPU deposit:

Jayson Stone, 6'2, Danville, IN (Danville)

Ut oh. Looks like another CCIW team is beginning to hoard guards.  ::)  :)  🏀

During the Cold War, people used to refer to the balance of power in terms of MAD (mutual assured destruction). Now they do so in terms of MAGH (mutual assured guard-hoarding).

It's the only way to assure the success of our infamous five-guard offense. ::)

Yes, the infamous IWU 5 guard offense. Bigs should go elsewhere.  :D

Well, we kinda liked Jack Sikma, among many other 'Bigs'. ;D  Big or small, we like 'em all, as long as they are true Titans.

There were several occasions last season in which the NPU junior varsity didn't have anybody suited up who was taller than 6'1. In fact, it was not uncommon to see three 5'9-or-under Vikings (Cam Burnett, Kevin Gates, and Gavin Groszek) on the floor at the same time for the JV team.

Whenever 6'8 Joe Biko played in a JV game, coming out of the timeout huddle he looked like a third-grade teacher leading his class on a field trip. ;)

On a different note (being the off-season), I LOVE being a grandpa - where you can send 'em home when they are past their 'due date'.  Generally 13-month-old Max is the happiest, easiest baby I've ever known (MUCH better than his dad or uncle :P), but we babysat today while he had a cold and fever and he was a PAIN!  Much as I love him, seeing the car pulling out of the driveway was the highlight of my day. ::)

The babysitting was so my son could scout housing options (he was successful! :)) as they return from alien territory (South Bend) to the Detroit area.  A die-hard Michigan grad and fan should not be compelled to live two blocks from the Notre Dame stadium! :o

NCC RECRUIT

Jaquan Phipps--6'3" 200 CG/SF from LaGrange (Lyons) HS

* All West Suburban Conference
* Academic All-Conference
* Suburban Life Suburban Cook County All-Area
* 11.5 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 4.8 APG, 1.6 SPG

Not spectacular in any phase, but strong in all phases of the game, Jaquan has the physique of a football linebacker. His quickness enables him to get to the basket, and to be an effective on the ball defender vs small, quick guards. His strength enables him to both rebound like a forward, and body up defensively on bigger players. Also a good assist man with 140 on the season vs 61 TOs.

Maybe not many can get you 8 reb and 4.8 dimes a game.

Congrats to North Central head assistant coach Mitch Raridon whose nuptials I had the pleasure to attend yesterday afternoon. Mitch had the immense great fortune to marry the lovely former Brianna Peters who now becomes Mitch's much better half.  ;D
Not surprisingly, the new Mr. & Mrs. Raridon originally met at the 2011 DI Final Four in Houston.

The affair was attended by many former NCC players including Ray Vicario, Josh Corso, Dean Prince, Chris Drennan, Matt Rogers, Reid Barringer, David Twyman, Kevin Gillespie, Aaron Tiknis, Vince Kmiec, Landon Gamble, Jack Burchett, and brother and best man, Derek Raridon.

And who knew that Cardinal head Coach Todd Raridon either had such a sense of humor or could speak so eloquently on a subject other than basketball.  ::)  :)

Just in case anyone cares (doubtful :P), first-born son and family are going to be living in Birmingham MI, with the movers doing it tomorrow.  We are currently caring for their cat; with a dog and cat of our own, we have not even attempted a truce: their cat has one room, which occasionally we expand to a two-room suite when conditions seem right - 'Chaos' will be gone on Wednesday (good cat, but well named).

We babysat Max today - he was his usual wonderful self almost the whole time.  It will be so wonderful having grandson and soon-to-be-born granddaughter 50 minutes instead of 3 hours away! ;D

You're right, no cares. :-) Slow news day in Michigan?

Anyway, to add to useless unnewsworthy news...

I ran my first ever 5k over the weekend at Miller Park (Brewers). Aside from playing soccer on a very semi regular basis, I haven't ran since high school, some 25 years ago. I ran a sub 30 minute 5k cold turkey, absolutely no training,  unless thinking about running around the block qualifies as training...back to your regularly schedule D3 basketball talk...

Washington University Football Announces Associate Membership with CCIW in 2018
http://bearsports.wustl.edu/sports/fball/2015-16/releases/20150611z55r5g

I know this is off-topic, but as often as I have joked about Washington University and Chicago being quasi-affiliated with the CCIW, I thought it was interesting to see the Bears align themselves officially with CCIW football as associate members.  This is a good move for Washington University football as far as I am concerned, but it is not a sport that I follow closely at all.

It's OK WUH. During the "off" season nothing is off limits the CCIW basketball room. We feature football news 🏈, 5K results 🏃, baby sitting bulletins 🍼, and even cat sitting news 🐱.
Next month we'll be unveiling our new police blotter news 💊 🔪 🔫, and in August we'll reveal a special family travel favorites section 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 🌍 ✈️.
