IWU has a new president...

https://www.iwu.edu/news/2015/jensen-named-illinois-wesleyans-19th-president.html

The press release only talks about academics, finances, people skills, and irrelevant crap like that - IS HE A SPORTS FAN??!!
My guess, based on some research - yes!  William and Mary still has a bio on their website in which he mentions "He plays music for fun and golf for humility and misses the days when his knees let him unleash his so-so basketball game on the world."  As Provost at Hamline, the Director of Athletics reported to him.  He, at minimum, has exposure to athletics, NCAA and D3 as Hamlin in the MIAC.

Yes, there's a CCIW rule. The WIAC also has a rule, but I think it only comes into play after a student-athlete's sophomore year.

I know the WIAC rule does apply after the sophomore year and I think it's possible to waive the WIAC rule if the releasing coach is agreeable.

Thanks... one of those things that never tends to be a topic of conversation and thus not something I tend to research or pay attention to :)

It's come up on CCIW Chat from time to time. In fact, I'm pretty sure that it came up last year when Geoffrey Godwin transferred from Millikin to North Central.

The CCIW rule about intrAconference transfers applies every year. It cannot be waived after soph year as it can apparently be in the WIAC.
This also came up recently on the women's side of the CCIW ball when Tess Godheart transferred from Elmhurst to NCC. I believe she transferred in mid 2/13, and couldn't play for NCC until mid 2/14.

And just to clarify -- before the sophomore year in the WIAC, it doesn't even apply. Someone could transfer after freshman year without any possibility of sanction from conference rules.

Anyone notice a pattern developing here?
We have known for some time that God smiles on the Thundering Crusaders from North DuPage County.  :)
We now seem to have evidence that he is also beginning to glance a bit south in the NCC Cardinals direction.  :o  ;)  ;D

Jack Herum just did it .  He was on our roster as a freshman and then transferred to River Falls (his hometown) at the end of the school year.  He was a starter for RF last season.

I've heard from two different people who each know of one 7 footer on the NPU campus this fall.  One was home-schooled in a Chicago suburb and another is an exchange student from Sweden.  Neither play basketball.

Not true.

So......they do play basketball......?

I don't know anything about the Swede. But, given that he's a Swede, there's a pretty good chance that he's not a basketball player. In spite of the fact that NPU has had a number of basketball players from the homeland over the years (including current freshman Adam Sönnerås), it's not a particularly popular sport in Sweden. That country definitely focuses upon hockey (plus cross-country skiing and bandy, to a lesser extent) during winter. If he was an athlete he'd most likely be a soccer goalkeeper, since soccer is Sweden's most popular sport (as can be seen by the sizeable number of Swedes that have played for the North Park men's soccer team over the past quarter-century) and GK is the usual position for super-tall players, but perhaps he's not particularly athletic. Heck, we can all think of seven-foot basketball players who performed on the court as though they could barely walk and chew gum at the same time. Lots of males that size are physically awkward, or at least unathletic.

The American kid, the homeschooler from the northwest suburbs that Mark mentioned, is a basketball player. He played (briefly) at another college before transferring to NPU. He has chosen not to continue his collegiate basketball career. Given that, I don't think it's right that I mention his name or give out anything more about his background. Since he's not going to be playing for the Park, his personal details are neither relevant nor appropriate for this forum.

Here is some newer information on the bluejays . Aaron Twist is a 6-11 Freshman from West Frankfort Illinois, Mason  Schaub is a 6-0  freshman from Dunlap Illinois. Pavlos Marakis is a 6-7 freshman from Athens Greece. Jayquan Lee is a 5-11 junior from West Aurora. Adam Braxton is a 6-3 freshman from Leyden Township. And Chris Lynch is a 6-3 sophomore from Willowbrook High School.

Wildcat, that's not "newer information." All of that info is on the posted roster on www.elmhurstbluejays.com, to which I linked in this room last week.

At least it was merged into this forum and not an independent topic like it started.  I suspect Wildcat, being new to the website, was unfamiliar with some of it's features.  No problem, I just wondered why it would be a separate topic is all.

Welcome Wildcat, I'm not a CCIW guy but I lurk around here because for some reason I'm not quite sure of this place interests me.

Looking forward to the basketball season -- only two months now, so it will come pretty fast.

IWU should have a good team, but I guess everyone will be trying to find a way to take down AC after their super year last year, basically everyone back, right?

IWU has a lot back:

PG Nelms, Pennington
SG Rose, Dolan,
SF Bausch, Coyle
PF Coyle, others?
5 Marietti, Seibring

I'm sure there are others that are going to step up, have their time.  Still, about 8-9 quality players with major playing time from last year coming back.  Should be a good year upcoming.

Titan football certainly looking better, at least in the first three non-conference games, now 3-0 with good numbers of offence and defence.
