Ken Massey's been doing this since the mid-'90s, although I'm not sure exactly when he added D3 men's basketball to his menu.

Today's rating:

    1. Augustana
  13. Elmhurst
  22. North Central
  49. North Park
  59. Illinois Wesleyan
134. Wheaton
192. Millikin
193. Carthage

... is the highest that Ken's computer has ever had North Park, and it's the biggest Massey lead that NPU's ever had over Wheaton.

All well and good, but it's no substitute for winning. And if the Massey predictions play out, NPU will end the season a mere 12-13, 5-9. So I'm trying not to take it too seriously.

Where was Alma in that list?  I don't subscribe. Thanks.  ???

Alma is currently ranked #33 by Massey

It was nice to see the Titans play in person...very rare for me nowadays.

Due to injuries to key players (Brady Rose, Mike Marietti, Ryan Coyle), IWU's rotation is still very much a work in progress here in late-December.  It's clear that Ron Rose is still evaluating players and combinations, and just looking for something to click.  Yesterday's game certainly wasn't pretty, but the Titans played well in enough stretches of the game to grind one out.

When IWU gets Rose (10.5 ppg, 3.7 rpg, .419 3-point) and Coyle (15.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg) back, I think the Titans will have plenty of talent to do well in CCIW play.  This IWU team is going to really struggle to defend quick/athletic teams - like North Park, for example -  but should have enough offensive strength to be in every game.

I am really impressed with the continued development of 6-8 junior F/C Trevor Seibring.  He has become a really good low post player. Seibring, now shooting .659 from the field, doesn't do anything flashy, but is just so fundamental and solid with everything he does on the floor.  When he gets the ball deep, it's generally a basket or FTs.

The Titans will have their hands full today vs #25 Texas Lutheran in another game where they'll have matchup problems to deal with on the defensive end. I expect to see some zone again - see if TLU can make perimeter shots.  Hopefully IWU can pound the ball inside to Seibring successfully.

I too am impressed with Trevor Seibring development. As Q wrote, he is just a solid player with strong fundamentals.
But, I will give the player of the game to Jaylen Beasley.  Jaylen came off the bench at the 4:28 mark in the second half, put up 5 points and a big defensive rebound in 1 minute 15 seconds which gave a much needed 11 point lead.

With regard to IWU's Trevor Seibring who TQ commented on above, it was obvious to anyone who follows the CCIW regularly that Seibring's development and game began to come together during last season. I, also, am not surprised he has continued to progress.

Mr. Ypsi

It is worrisome that just-returned Mike Marietti sustained an apparent leg injury in the Chicago game, and did not play in either of the games in Texas.  Anyone know anything about the extent of this newest misfortune, and how long he may be out?

North Park 72

Jordan Robinson: 22 pts, 12 rebs
Juwan Henry: 22 pts (4-8 trey)
Colin Lake: 17 pts (5-9 trey)

The Vikings were just plain ol' outplayed tonight by Dubuque. The Spartans ran out to a 29-12 lead that the Vikings erased with an inspired 20-3 run, and NPU had the lead at the half, 40-39. So when the Spartans developed another double-digit lead in the second half, I expected NPU to again erase it. But it never happened. Dubuque managed to keep the lead in the 8-12 range down the stretch, and then padded the final score with free throws.

The Vikings showed really poor shot selection tonight and poor recognition of what the Spartans were trying to do defensively. NPU did do a nice job of slowing down UD All-American Andre Norris, holding him seven points under his season average, but they were eaten up by the inside-outside game of Kain Arthofer, who scored 33 for UD, and Jacob Mohlis, who had 24.

The one silver lining of this bad game is that the Vikings won't have to live with it long. They'll get the chance to wash the bad taste out of their mouths on Monday afternoon down in Georgia when they take on Covenant College.
