It is hard to believe that one or more coaches wouldn't vote for Amelianovich and Dauksas 1st team.  Dauksas is just simply the just point-guard in the league and without question one of the top 5 players.  And Amelianovich is one of the best shooters in the country.  He is 80-170 (.470) from 3-point range for pete's sake!!  .470 is a pretty good percentage from 2!  I'd like to ask that coach, or coaches, who the top 5 players in the league they had to gameplan for.  I'll bet the names Adam Dauksas and Keelan Amelianovich come up.

devossed,

Harrigan: 2nd team 2005
Simmons: 2nd team 2005
Martin: 1st team 2005
Dauksas: 1st team 2005 (M.O.P.), 2nd team 2004
Amelianovich: 1st team 2005, 1st team 2004 (M.O.P.)

Amelianovich and Martin become that rare breed of 3-time 1st teamers.  Anyone have the full list of 3-timers?

LU 05, do your research a little better. All of the players you mentioned as far as transfers either played for Coach Schultz previously or played in the same conference that he coached in during his days as a high school coach.  Swartz and Monfre at Waukesha South (plus knew the coach for 10 years), Scheper Mukwonago HS and Toshner Arrowhead HS.  Johnson played for him during his AAU days with George Karl's Friends of Hoop team.  None were recruited in fact if you asked the players they would say they came to him and asked if there would be interest. Besides, when Coach Schultz got to Carroll in 03 they were coming off an 2-21 season were going to have trouble fielding a team with enough players.  So obviously you need bodies to compete, it was not like he was walking into gold mine ready to jump onto the national scene let alone become an MWC power.  My guess would be that as you build a program you can build from within.  But if people want to come to your I would think that would be a good sign.  But LU 05 don't let any facts get in the way of discrediting your opponents.  Maybe others should try to dig up some the illegal things that have gone on at LU in recent years? Careful where you throw stones.

Hammer...
He wasn't saying it was illegal.  He was just saying that it goes against the MWC spirit, being an academic conference and all...more homegrown talent rather then bringing in the WIAC's rejects, etc.  Carroll has done very well with thier transfers, nothing illegal at all...it just is a difference from Lawrence and Grinnell and others way of having talent for all four years like Braier and before him Wood and Nordlund at Grinnell.  Of course LU has its own transfer in Kevin Bradley doing well, but he has the grades to pull off the rigorous courseload, so of course we would let him in.

Boy does that post sound smug.

Mr. Ypsi

augiedad,

The all-conference voting does certainly leave the question: so whom did the coach or coaches vote ABOVE Adam and Keelan?

larry_u DID leave a definite impression that a) Carroll is NOT a real academic school, and b) the transfers to Carroll did NOT have the grades to legitimately get in.  I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that it was sloppy writing rather than deliberate innuendo.

Congratulations to all of the All-CCIW selections and especially to Rick Harrigan and Grey Giovanine for their Player and Coach of the Year selections respectively. The rule awarding COY automatically to the conference champ is really stupid, but I think Coach G really should have won it anyway. Raridon and Harris both did a great job this year (under different circumstances), but I think the Vikings' performance over the course of the whole conference season, and particularly their success in close games would make me lean towards Coach G.

As Augie embarks on their first NCAA tournament appearance in 13 years, it's interesting (at least to me) to note that in their previous eight D3 tourney trips, they've been eliminated by the eventual champion six times. The other two times ('77 and '83) they lost in the first round.

Congrats, again, to all three of the CCIW's qualifiers. Good luck to the Titans and Cardinals as well as Augie.

IWU DC

I would be curious to see what lineup other top conferences would be able to bring against the CCIW first team.

To have both Amelianovich and Harrigan on the court at the same time is enough to give a defense fits.....then to add Simmons, Dauksas and Martin.

That would be fun to watch.
"Those are some nice nurse scrubs, guy"
"These are O.R. scrubs."
"oh, are they?"

Bill Warden, NCC (1952-55) (4-timer)
Modzel Greer, NP (1978-80)
Michael Harper, NP (1978-80)
Keith McDonald, NP (1971-73)
Michael Starks, NP (1986-88)
Rob Hamman, Wheaton (1997-99)
Marv Johnson, Wheaton (1948-49, 1951)

My guess is that Freeman and Walton showed up on at least one 1st team ballot making Adam & Keelan not unanamous picks.  If you are coach Raridon it would be difficult to leave Zach Freeman off your 1st team vote.  He was the best IWU player against NCC.

Now that the inaugural CCIW Tournament is in the past and the CCIW was able to field 3 teams, what are all of your thoughts about the Tournament idea?  I have always been in favor of it, and I think this year is a great example why I think the Tournament benefits the CCIW.

In the MIAA we have 8 on the first team........we'll be pressing a lot. ;D

;D ;D ;D

But that CCIW first team is amazing - give 'em time to gel as a TEAM and I think they would be top 40 (MAYBE even top 25) in d1 - despite a slight height deficit, if they had time to become a TEAM, I'd pick them over Michigan (MAYBE over Michigan State, though that might be a stretch).

I doubt there is another d3 conference who can match them 5-on-5 - any takers?

Anyone think there has ever been a better CCIW first team?  (Or, for others, anyone think there has ever been a better D3  conference first team?)  I'm bowled over that the two returning first team All-Americans are the only ones who were NOT unanimous.  WOW!

Despite an outcome not particularly to my liking, the tournament was a lot of fun. I really enjoyed watching the NC-Elmhurst and NC-IWU matchups (not so much, AC-IWU round 3). As far as giving out the AQ, I'd rather see it go to the long-haul champion of the regular season (and not just because the team I follow won it this year). I'm pretty sure the NCAA doesn't allow that so we have an either-or situation, not the best of both worlds (the regular season champion earning the AQ and the excitement of the conference tournament).

I'd be interested to see if anyone ran the numbers to see if North Central would have definitely been in the NCAA tournament without the two huge CCIW tournament wins.

More details on Dain Swatalla's injury would be appreciated. He has been one of Augie's strongest players coming down the home stretch. If he's not near 100%,  Augie will be in big trouble getting past this weekend.

It said in the local paper this morning that he had missed a weekend workout with a thumb injury. On the news tonight it looked like he practiced today and from what I could see it didn't look like he was wearing any wrap or splint. That's all I know, for whatever it's worth. Harrigan's got a big black eye though.
