Let's add a little excitement to it.......hey, what about the CCIW All-Conference team playing the All-Conference team from the WIAC.  I would reccomend the Michigan conference, but having to play their eight first teamers to begin with, doesn't seem that it would be a level playing field!  If we did, I am sure that playing it at Hope with their fan-base would even up things!

Even though it'll never happen, that would be exciting to see.  I think the turnout would be surprising, especially if the game meant something......like got a trophy or something hyped up and made important.  I'm sure the players participating wouldn't mind at all, they'd most likely love it.

Yeah is that eight-man first team a normal thing?  I just saw the UAA all-conference first team and they had seven members?? What's up with all that?

Tied in the voting perhaps and therefore the conference lists seven or eight instead of the normal five.  Look at the NJAC all conference team this season, it is five forwards, possibly the five best players in the conference but that is always debatable.

I think the WIAC would get spanked this year.  Last year, however...

If we use this year, the WIAC gets to use Point's three assistant coaches:  Nick Bennett, Jason Kalsow and Kyle Grusczynski!  :D

no wonder CCIW chat's post number is so much higher than anyone - we get a lot of foreigners in here.

Did you guys get your tourist visa in order before crossing the border into CCIW land?   ;D

Remember this is the College Conference of Illinois Wesleyan.  ;)

Somebody posted something about Wheaton athletics in 1906.  Here's a little more Wheaton history.  The deceased was my friend's grandfather.

James Nelson McKellin II - Rest In Peace - James McKellin, formerly of Wheaton, IL, died on Jan. 24, 2006. After graduating Wheaton College in 1935, James had a long career as the Food Service Director of Wheaton College. One of his proudest accomplishments was that he started intercollegiate soccer at Wheaton College and was the first coach from 1935-1940.

LU 81 BW 75 in the Championship. If your bracket doesn't have the same then you won't win.

CAN LU ACTUALLY WIN IT ALL.  They've got experience, good guard play, good coaching and an all american who can will his team to victory, BUT CAN LU REALLY WIN IT ALL??????????????

I've got LU over Hope, but I think its doable.  The only problem would come if IWU suddenly realizes the season's almost over and starts playing for keeps.
Gosh, I think LU needs to get by St Thomas/North Central winner first.  I think North Central, with a long road trip for first game, can win over St. Thomas.  The Cardinals could be a very tough match-up for LU.

diehardfan,

I see you are a big fan of Chris Martin.
While I liked Martin on the court and he would start for my team..  I don't think you can compare him to R Knuppel.
Knuppel was able to win the big game(s), and come through in the clutch.  I.E. Wash U in playoffs, IWU during the reg. season.
I think Knuppel was a better outside shooter, while Martin with his larger frame was able to drive to net better.
2 great players, but IMO, I wouldn't compare them like apples-apples etc.

Hey, I'm a CCIW native... I just went on a little "study abroad" trip up north...  ;D

KG played at Madison for the first part of the season but left the team mid-year because of some severe depression.  When he got to Point, he had a much different perspective on life and was much happier, as OS said.  He and I were roommates for two years.  One of the most refreshing things was that he DIDN'T have a big head about having been at Wisconsin, etc etc.  He humbly accepted his role on the team and was an integral part of our two championship runs.  Heck, we don't even get a shot at Championship #2 if it wasn't for his 2 offensive rebounds on 2 consecutive trips down the floor that led to scores.  Oh, and Kyle and Megan were dating while he was at Madison... but it didn't get as serious as it is now until she joined him here at Point.

Oh, and I was a transfer too... The school I originally went to (Michigan Tech) just wasn't the right school for me, so I transferred to Point and Point has been a tremendous experience.

And I'm "out of the closet" so to speak... the reasons why my identity was under the radar was because I didn't think that the coaches would be privy to me posting on D3hoops...  Actually, Coach Bennett thought it was pretty funny!

Although after back-to-back titles I have to believe his sense of humor has gotten a little better in that respect.

Congratulations to Keelan Amelianovich, the 2006 Academic All-American of the Year.  While this may not be as prestigious as the Jostens Award, this is a nice honor.

From the IWU website:
"Senior Keelan Amelianovich was named to the first team of the ESPN The Magazine College Division Academic All-American team and was chosen as the College Division "Academic All-American of the Year." Amelianovich has a 3.82 grade-point average as an accounting major and was a second team selection last year. West Virginia's Johannes Herber earned the honor in the University Division. It marks the fifth time an IWU student-athlete has earned the top national distinction for their respective sport - Korey Coon won in 1999 and 2000 for men's basketball, Lon Erickson in football in 1996 and James Rinne for baseball in 1998.

Here is a link to the whole story:

I know all the teams in the CCIW boast a large number of Academic All-Americans.  As a former voter for this award, I know that in some sports Academic All-America is harder to get then others, but this one is a big deal.  I am probably more proud of IWU's many Academic All-Americans than the CCIW trophies.
