It is quite rare for IWU hoops to accept at CC transfer, right?

Extremely rare.  I can't think of a JUCO transfer for IWU since my guy Mike Thomas (aka Titan Hammer) way back in 1989-90 from Lincoln College.  Maybe I'm forgetting some guys, not sure.

Proud to be continuing my academic and basketball career at Illinois Wesleyan!📚🏀 #IWU #GoTitans

* Tyler Burdine, 6-9 C (Lincoln Land CC/Williamsville H.S.)

Tyler Burdine isn't much of a scorer, but he is a legit 6-9 and moves well.  He should provide some nice post depth for the Titans the next two seasons.

NOT to disparage Tyler's decision, but Very disappointing to this SLIAC fan... he would have been MUCH more than just post depth at MacMurray...  We'll have to keep fighting the never ending battle....
The only thing not to be liked in Florida is no D3 hoops!!!

North Central isn't the first name that comes to mind in terms of potential merger recipients of Shimer, but it's at least a congenial fit by virtue of being (mostly) a liberal-arts college. This is a real feather in NCC's cap from an academic viewpoint.

A feather in the cap indeed.

I have been thinking about this...trying to figure out how North Central benefits at a time when institutions are doing more to maximize revenue and to cater to the ever changing needs (wants) of the college crowd.

North Central will be strong academically...no question...but the question for me: with a few of the college rankings including peer evaluations, will the peers rate North Central more highly?  Thus, a boost in the rankings...

It seems to be a win-win for both institutions.

Incidentally, not surprised at all that you considered a Great Books college.

TQ-

Not a big deal, just a few very slight changes:

* Augie--BLAKE (not Black) Janssen
* Elm--BRIAN (not Brett) Kern
* NCC--Sam Fehrle more C/F than F/C

Didn't realize MacMurray was on him.  Maybe this tweet, from the same day Burdine announced he's going to IWU, is related.

Seems like an odd thing for a head coach to be tweeting

Titan Q

I actually heard from Todd.  His tweet had nothing to do with basketball.

My apologies...I shouldn't have even speculated about that.

That's an interesting development. Speaking as someone who seriously contemplated enrolling at a Great Books school when I was looking at colleges as a high-school senior (St. John's College in Annapolis, to be specific), I appreciate what schools like Shimer offer, and I've followed Shimer's travails over the past couple of decades as it fought to stay alive. I'm certainly glad that it did. The Waukegan location was terrible, and, while Illinois Tech was a very convenient home for Shimer after it left Waukegan, it never really struck me that it would be a good match if tenant merged into landlord on an institutional basis. (Joe Hakes might differ with me on that assessment.)

North Central isn't the first name that comes to mind in terms of potential merger recipients of Shimer, but it's at least a congenial fit by virtue of being (mostly) a liberal-arts college. This is a real feather in NCC's cap from an academic viewpoint. Good for NCC, and I'm glad that Shimer will continue to survive.

(As for WUH's prediction that the addition of Shimer will have little to no impact on North Central athletics, truer words were never typed. From my experience with Great Books students and alumni, I can vouch that "Great Books students" and "jocks" are a Venn diagram with no intersection. ;) As far as NCC athletics is concerned, I predict that Shimer students will be seen on Cardinals athletic rosters about as frequently as iwu70 gets sincere requests in this room to discuss Illinois Wesleyan opera singers. :D)

Shimer leased part of a building from Illinois Tech. Their students had use of our facilities but I don't know how connected they were with Tech students.  You definitely knew the difference when you were in their area as Shimer students were definitely not Techies.  I hadn't heard about them moving until this story but it probably does make some sense for them.

Greg, your snide comments about my love for IWU opera will fail to merit an in depth reply.  Summer travels and enjoying the magic of the Warriors too good just now.  In Minneapolis enjoying Surly Beer and good meals at the many lovely eating establishments in the MSP area.

Did I mention that the IWU women just won the national championship in track and field.  Sorry, I digress.

Well, it ain't really so.
70's idea of a summer sabbatical consists of using the men's basketball room during the summer months to post news about sports such as women's track & field. Sometimes, after forgetting his daily medication, he gets both his sexes and his sports a bit confused.  ::)  ;)
