Warren - this board has been unusually quiet for this time of the year.  I'm a frequent visitor/lurker from the West region & generally check in on CCIW Chat a couple times a week to see what's happening in the larger world of D3 hoops.  I'm familiar with Greg Sager & Mr. Ypsi aka Cabonney, but I don't know who this Diskerud poster is that you speak of.

Also, does anyone know what Hoops Fan's previous screen name was? I'm guessing with the high number of posts (1,600+ posts), he's a HOF type poster.  I'm assuming he had a previous moniker like Mr. Ypsi, but choose to give himself a new name with the introduction of the new & improved D3 boards?

Best of luck to all teams, players & fans this season.

Mr. Ypsi

Drake,

I'm honored (and amazed!) that any but the most regular of regulars would recall my change-over!  Pat referred to me as Mr. Ypsi in a clearly pejorative way, Sac chimed in that that ought to be my name (I'm sure neither was aware that they did this as the Ypsilanti Heritage Festival was kicking off), and I thought "Yes, that's my name!"

Mr. Y. - I accidentally stumbled across this board in the late summer of 2003.  At the time there was a heated exchange going on about the Cubs, Sox, road construction around North Park (?)  & why North Park's campus was a hindrance in their hoops recruitment efforts.

Later on I read thoughtful opinions about Tolkien & hobbits,  heard about to die for cookies, IWU (?) fans who were driving in from Michigan on a weekly basis to watch their Titans play; & a well respected fan who set up a very successful website for his college team.  I also read about a poster who hadn't seen his college basketball team play in nearly what -  20 years?!?   Yet that didn't deter him from proffering up an opinion or two, or three.   ;)

So I thought to myself, "all this enthusiasm on a D3 board?  This might be a fun board to read," & it certainly has been.  I've been entertained & informed!

Thanks

Hoops Fan might before have been called CCC Hoops Fan. He was mostly Northeast early on but has ventured out in recent years and is more than holding his own nationally.

Drake, diskerud is the alternate handle for emeritusprof.

David Collinge

He's often referred to as "Clayton" as well.  "Clayton Diskerud" is what it says on the APB issued in the wake of his recent disappearance.

I don't recall any positive feedback from that Tolkien discussion; it's nice to know there was at least one reader not thinking Orcish thoughts!  :D

Pat, I'm touched; I never knew you cared.

I try to stay up nationally, especially now that I'm across the country from my beloved NE region and don't get back as often as I'd like.  I haven't done much with the CCIW board because frankly, you guys all know way more than I do about the conference.  It's just so darn entertaining here.

Drake,
I too was a lurker for about 2 years until recently.  Actually finally signed up when the changeover happened.  This board has given me a lot of laughs and a lot of insight.  I think now that practice has begun that there is a bit of a lull.  The same thing happened over in the CCIW football chat when teams had started practicing but games were still a ways off.  As game time gets closer I am sure things will get fast and furious.

David Collinge:

OK, there's an APB out for "clayton." But what about Sager? Has he fallen into a black hole? Gone to a Tibetan mountain to contemplate the eternal verities? Married the boss's daughter and absconded to Tahiti?

What?

We need to know ....

The Roop

Cabonnilanti,

Some "not so regulars" also recall your change over.

Mr. Ypsi

Drake,

Actually, I hadn't seen my school (or any other CCIW game) in nearly 34 years until I broke the streak last December (with 4 games in 2 days, I might add!) - that's an all-time record for a d3hoops.com poster until I hear otherwise!  ;)

I was the proud namesake of the 'Cabonney Rule' (invented by either Pat or Q, I forget which), which, loosely translated said "Anyone who hasn't seen a game in over 30 years has no right to be so opinionated" (alternate translation: "show up or shut up"  :'()!  I hope to see more games within coming years, but, just in case, I figure I've got 29 more years before they can invoke the rule again!  ;D

Mr. Ypsi

Roop,

I'm honored that you, too, remember the change-over - but don't count on any mercy on pick-ems!  (or any extra 'roopaccinos', if I ever get to Grinnell!)

WT,

Both Sager and Q have a history of mysteriously disappearing for periods of time.  Q has recently resurfaced, but as to Greg - my theory is that he got one of those MacArthur 'genius' awards, and is in Biarritz trying to decide what to do next!  (Hmm, do I handicap the Titans of Oshkosh or the Titans of IWU?)  ;)

The Roop

Mr. Ypsi,

Dec. 2nd seems to be the day to be at Grinnell this year. Jeff has family (I think) coming in and now it sounds like half the MWC board will be there as well. It just goes to show that if you talk enough about Roopaccinos, they will come.............

Mr. Ypsi

Roop,

If you were one weekend earlier, I just might do it - I'll probably be in Peoria for Thanksgiving.  But Ypsilanti to Grinnell is one hellacious drive!  :(

Jim Matson

Hmmm.  I haven't been on in a while but now I know who YOU are Mr. Ypsi!  Why the name change?

I am proud to say that I was with you as you witnessed your new found CCIW home court in Wheaton.  But alas, I fear that you'll have very little reason to come again anytime in the near future...

I haven't seen Q around lately but I did sit with his parents at the Wheaton/North Central football game.  And I wanted to hear his reaction to his Titans knocking off Wheaton men's soccer for the 1st time in history!
