Mr. Ypsi

NPU downs IWU, 72-68.  Early on it was the Jordan Robinson show - he had 14 of the Vikings first 16 points as they jumped out to a 16-4 lead.  IWU cut it to a 1-point deficit several times, but never led in the game.  Robinson finished with 28 points; no one else on either team had more than 12 (or 13?).  Juwan Henry had a very un-Juwan night or it could have been ugly - he shot 6-23.

NPU moves to 2-0 (both wins against contenders on the road - they're in GREAT shape on the Q-meter); IWU goes to 0-2, both losses to contenders, but one at home.  I'm already getting serious angst. :(

I should meet my new granddaughter tomorrow or Friday [DIL is having labor induced tomorrow morning]; that should reduce my angst! ;)  There really ARE things more important than Titan bball! ;D

Final from Bloomingteon: North Park 72, IWU 68.  Jordan Robinson led the charge with 28 points.

The sky is falling, the sky is falling.
I am determined to be wise, but this was beyond me.

The women's game here at the crackerbox just concluded. I missed the entire men's game, although I tried to keep one eye on the live stats from Shirk while I called the game here.

I'm looking forward to watching it on demand once IWU has it archived.

I might watch it twice tonight. Or three times.

Final from Naperville...

Carthage 85
#9-North Central 75

Augie nipped Wheaton at Carver, 73-71. Wheaton continues to surprise people.

Elmhurst whipped Carroll up at Van Male, 69-56. Didn't see that one coming at all.

I must be reading this wrong. Live stats show that Carthage just upset North Central in the airplane hangar, 85-75. If that's true, this league is throwing curveballs left and right.

Webster trounced Millkin at the Griz, 69-54.

Tough night to be at home, unless you're Augie.

Everyone who thought Carthage and North Park would led the pack after two games, raise your hand.

Augie survived as Aston Francis missed a 3 pointer at the buzzer. Francis is going to be a big time offensive threat in the CCIW.

NPU road win + Carthage upset over NCC = Greg Sager up all night.

Another poor perimeter defensive performance behind the arc for Augustana.  Wheaton shot 40% but I will say that Aston Francis hit a couple uncontested from about 27 ft.  At this point Augie is just not a good 3 point shooting team and if you trade two's for three's your going to get yourself in trouble.

North Park is the best team in the conference.  Thought they should have been 1 or 2 in the pre-season ranking but I guess that pre-season rankings don't really mean anything anyway.  Go Vikings.

Wrong, Mark. NPU was the CCIW's top trey-shooting team coming into the game at .448. IWU was third at .390, trailing the Vikings and Wheaton.

Count me in with augiefan. I thought that NPU had a fighting chance to win the first two, even though they were on the road against two of the teams that were picked to finish ahead of North Park.

But Carthage? I doubt that anybody outside of the team itself figured that the Red Men were going to win in Naperville. Gotta tip my cap to the Serbian Prince for what he's done with what is one of the younger teams in the league.

Yeah, probably. ;) I'm still trying to keep up with all of the texts, Facebook messages, and e-mails I'm getting from all across the country tonight. The alumni are starting to wake up to the fact that North Park basketball is back from the dead.

Incidentally, Dennis P. will correct me on this if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty sure that none of North Park's five national championship teams managed to beat Augie in Rock Island and beat Wesleyan in Bloomington in the same season. That's just an incredibly hard thing to do for any team. Even when one of them is down, the other one tends to be even more dominant.

Augie 73 Wheaton 71

Wheaton found a gem in Aston Francis.  He is making the Thunder worth watching again.

Anyone at the game see what Mike Schauer flipped out about roughly 5 minutes or so after the game well after Augie left the court?  The gym was clearing out and he went over and yelled at someone behind the scorers table for some time while pointing towards the opposite sideline.  It was very odd.

That's why the school is waiting for me to win the Powerball in order to build a new gym. :(

You'd attach a condition to the funding stating that a courtside stage must be built into the arena design, right?   ::)
