I was a little surprised that Elmhurst is such a heavy favorite in that game, according to Massey. The Bluejays have floundered all season, including against SLIAC competition, while Blackburn has given a good accounting of itself in its most recent games. Perhaps Ken's computer somehow divined that EC's freshman phenom PG has made what appears to be a miraculous recovery from his knee injury, and the computer is adjusting the prediction algorithms accordingly. ;)

I would bet all my stock in D3Sports.com that without that collision on the put-back, we would not be discussing a game winning in-bounds play...

Just my opinion...

I might take that bet in the hopes of acquiring your D3Sports.com stock.  Bausch had Austin Amann on the left wing wide open, with nothing but daylight to the other end of the floor.  Had Knupp covered Rose, a simple head turn by Bausch and a dump to Amann and the game was over.

The key to the play was how quickly Bausch got the ball and started the in-bounds process.  That wouldn't have changed without the collision.

And by the way, I am holding the stock for the longterm...there will be a temptation to cash it in, but I'm keeping it.

I watched the third to last possession on the Bears Sports Network and the play is too hard to see from the rafters, but Bears got an unfortunate call when Sanders rebounded the ball and passed it to the wing while falling out of bounds.  The official ruled that he stepped on the baseline.  Easy to see from 15 feet away, but a tough call for the official who was on top of the play.  Such is basketball...

Here is that play...

Looks like they may have missed an over-the-back foul on Sanders first (on Seibring)...and then possibly a travel (falling to the ground with the ball).  Impossible to tell on the out-of-bounds situation...although it kind of looks like his entire backside was on the floor while the ball was in his hands.  Maybe his right hand before that.  The official who called it was directly on top of the play and had the best angle in the building.

Any more plays to break down? This is kind of fun.

Wow!  Sanders clobbered Seibring on that one.

The pass to Austin Amann opens begins to open up only after Rose has the ball.  Amann would have been almost at midcourt.  Both Clinton Hooks and Andrew Sanders would have been in position to guard Amann and Nick Coleman, but Andrews followed the play to Rose.

Bausch was directly underneath the basket...a long pass to Amann would not have been particularly quick and easy.

That would be my counter...

I'll have to think about whether or not I have been subjected to the D3Boards.com equivalent of that final in-bounds play.

Actually, the official did have a better angle...I thought he was closer.  Point conceded.

My nephew has a GoPro video of this.  I'll post as soon as I get it.

Here is the pic of the ball in Bausch's hands (out of bounds)...

Austin Amann was wide open, UAA logo extended left.  Would have just taken a little lob pass near the arc - Amann would have easily dribbled across halfcourt and run out the the clock.  That is how I am seeing this at least.

While it's currently -1 with a wind chill of -17 in beautiful downtown NaPPerville, North Central players, staff, and fans are currently enjoying the gentle 79 degree breezes currently wafting across the Ft. Lauderdale, FL beach.  :)

Upon arrival at O'Hare this morning the Cardinals' plane was found to be "broken." Subsequently, a replacement was boarded which landed at about noon, some 90 minutes later than the original flight plan called for.

Thanks for posting that screen capture...

Let me first say that I mentioned the in-bounds play again only after reading two more posts on the matter.  Not my intention to diminish the win.  I mention that just in case anyone read it that way.

It is all theoretical, but there are a few plausible outcomes from either a Knupp made basket or a Highsmith made basket in which he clears Knupp.  A replay of the actual play is plausible of course.

Highsmith barely missed Rose as he ran the sideline and that is more or less my argument, hence the second outcome in which Knupp or Highsmith is in position for the foul.  This is what I believe was the most likely scenario.

A third outcome involves the lob to Austin Amann, but this one is significantly less likely.  Bausch is focused on the rebound he has Rose on the left so he probably not surveying the court.  He focuses on Rose the moment he touches the ball.  This makes it difficult to know what he would have done, but more likely than not, he would have passed to Rose knowing that Rose was one of the last guys his opponents wanted to foul.  Bausch had three guys in between him and Amann and Bausch would have needed time to find him.  Way too much risk when Bausch knows that the only thing that matters is that one of his guys gets the ball.

In theory...

In the end though, the better team won.

Titans clearly the better team in the first half, but the way the Wash U guys adjusted and played defense in the second half, came back from ten down, they were surely the better team in the second half.  Just one point short.  Perhaps these two teams meet again in the post-season, as has often happened in the history of this great rivalry.  May depend then on how well they have developed and improved over the course of the rest of the season, in their respective conferences.

Will be interesting to see how the DIII poll works out this week, with NCC losing again, this close game between IWU-WashU and other developments by ranked teams.

IWU has another good game on Tuesday night vs. Chicago @The Shirk.

Go TITANS!  The Big Apple awaits.

Greg, the NPU, Manchester, and Albion schedule make it look like there is no broadcast of any kind for either game this week.  Is that actually the case?  ???

Gregory Sager

Manchester has something called Spartan Stream, and I'm pretty sure that it's showed prior Spartans games. However, Manchester is now on winter break, and from the looks of it Spartan Stream doesn't appear to be carrying tonight's contest. That leaves only live stats as far as following the game is concerned, unfortunately. I would go with the team to Indiana to call tonight's game, but the NPU women are hosting a game in the crackerbox this afternoon and the school's priority is to broadcast home games when the men's and women's teams are playing at the same time (or, in this case, when one is playing at home and the other is on a bus bound for North Manchester, IN).

The broadcast situation with Albion appears to be the same. I know for a fact that the Britons broadcast their basketball games, because I watched them play North Central at Kresge Gym last week. There was audio and video, but no broadcaster(s) -- I call that a "pantomime broadcast" ;). Albion is likewise on winter break. Perhaps the video production staff of both schools consists of students, precluding both Manchester and Albion from broadcasting games while there are no students on campus. (That's not a problem at NPU, because most of Kevin Shepke's student staff consists of people who live near campus.)

At this point I'm planning to travel with the team on Wednesday, so there will at least be audio play-by-play for Wednesday's game. Kevin will put a link for it up on the NPU website. But, alas, it appears that there's nothing that anybody can do with regard to tonight's game at Manchester, aside from looking at live stats.

Moot point.  Or mute point - whichever you prefer.  (They both work).   The bus has turned around and the Vikes are headed back to campus.  The power is out again on the Manchester University  campus.   ::)
