I went further down the rabbit hole of NCC's three point shooting. Only three players in NCC history have hit over 50 percent of their threes in a qualifying season:

  • Robert Brown ('88-'89)- 58.2%
  • Pete Rochford ('88-'89)- 52.5%
  • Ray Vicario ('04-'05)- 51.4%

Unfortunately, I don't know what the threshold to be on this list was, and of them, the only person who stats go back far enough to get a good glimpse of this for is Vicario, who shot 36-70 that particular year. I wouldn't consider that a high enough volume, with Robinson on pace to surpass those attempt numbers by mid-January.

Digging into the CCIW archives, Robert Brown hit 48.8 percent of his threes (84-172) in CCIW play in 1990, and that's the best mark in CCIW history... though again, that's just conference play and not the full season. And that's still a good 13-14 percentage points behind what Robinson has done so far.

Brown was a volume shooter ... and a great one. He also had a lot more to his game than mere outside shooting. He's among the best half-dozen or so guards I've ever seen in the CCIW.

I am biased because I am of that era... but IMO Robert Brown ranks #2 my list of all-time North Central players.  That's no slight to Tony Jordan, or Mike McFaddon, or Landon Gamble, or the various Sons of Raridon -- there have been any number of great players pass through the program.  But Robert Brown was simply outstanding in so many facets of the game.

(... we all know who #1 on that list is, and if you argue the point, you are basically disqualifying yourself from the discussion...)

I kinda doubt that a lot of Top 25 pollsters read this particular board.

Sure they do. Why wouldn't they?

Ya, why wouldn't they?
Wouldn't that be an obvious and easy way to accumulate some of the voluminous amount of information they obviously possess?

Ever tried reading all of the men's basketball boards on d3boards.com, guys? It's a pretty time-consuming process. Just ask Pat or Gordon if you don't believe me. The pollsters are coaches and SIDs, for the most part, and they don't have unlimited time on their hands.

Given that I just *now* got to this post ... yeah, it's pretty time-consuming.

Apparently, as time was expiring, NCC's Aiden Chang hit a three to sent the game to OT tied at 69.

Then, with 0.6 left in the first OT, Jagger Anderson hit another from downtown to send it to a 2nd OT tied at 86!

And it's final: NCC 94, Wartburg 91 in double overtime!

The lesson as always: Paywalls suck.

Another reason why the D3hoops.com Classic is the place to be.

IWU faces 7-1 Middlebury from the NESCAC next - 12/29 in New York.

Doesn't Ron Rose know coaches are supposed to take their teams someplace warm over break?  :D
Multiple studies have shown college kids much prefer spending their down time relaxing on the beach rather than dodging frozen piles of trash in the streets.  :o

AO, there are lots of other fun, compensating virtues in NYC -- the Titans I'm sure won't be on Staten Island playing basketball the entire time.  There is Broadway after all, and some of the finest concerts, museums and art galleries in the world -- not to mention Chinatown for dinner, and Little Italy for dessert.  Being on a beach in a warm place isn't everything in life . . . though, of course, I'm the guy who escapes the Midwest winter for the warmer climes of the South China coast!  :)  LOL

I'm looking forward to the two Titans games "back east."

I think most college guys would tell you that they would prefer being on the beach during break rather than visiting a museum or art gallery, seeing a play, or even having dinner in Chinatown!
That, of course, is because being on the beach 🏖  is only half the fun. The real attraction is what there is to see (👙), and possibly do (🍻 💋 🛌 🌇) on the beach!  ;)

OH, AO, I see now.  How could I have forgotten??  I thought that was what Spring Break is for.  Silly me.  I guess I just got used to all that living in Hawaii in grad school for three years and going to the beach 3-4 times per week!  Just shows I don't understand these young college men these days.  LOL.

(I'm glad to say that many IWU students I know would actually enjoy a good Broadway play, a NY museum or gallery, and plenty of good food in Chinatown or Little Italy.  I'm sure many would, of course, enjoy the beach and a warm break from Central Illinois winters too.  No doubt.).

IWU typically goes somewhere warm but every now and then mixes it up.  The last 15 holiday trips...

2016-17: Staten Island, NY
2015-16: Trinity, TX
2014-15: Thousand Oaks, CA
2013-14: No trip
2012-13: Orlando, FL
2011-12: Staten Island, NY
2010-11: Thousand Oaks, CA
2009-10: San Antonio, TX
2008-09: West Palm Beach, FL
2007-08: Los Angeles, CA
2006-07: No trip
2005-06: Santa Barbara, CA
2004-05: Georgetown, TX
2003-04: Fort Myers, FL
2002-03: Honolulu, HI

Obviously lots of great stuff to do and see in the Big Apple - although knowing IWU hoopers, I doubt a lot of time will be spent at broadway plans, museums, and galleries per iwu70.

Last time the Titans were at the Staten Island tourney the team did Times Square on New Year's Eve -- while you couldn't be pay enough money to do that, the guys had a blast from what I hear.  I'm sure the team will have a great time in NYC.

The Central Region ranking picture is going to be very crowded this year.  In Massey's current top 25, 10 teams are from the Central Region...

http://www.masseyratings.com/rate.php?s=cb2017&sub=11620

#2 - UW-Whitewater
#4 - North Park
#5 - UW-River Falls
#9 - Illinois Wesleyan
#12 - UW-Eau Claire
#15 - Benedictine
#18 - Augustana
#19 - Chicago
#23 - St. Norbert
#25 - North Central

I continue to be amazed at the decision to put the WIAC and CCIW in the same region.

That was entirely geographical, right?  The Iowa Conference would've made more sense competitively, but Iowa is farther West than Wisconsin.

North Central plays in The Hangar in Naperville, but this game looks like it was played in an actual airplane hangar.

Except for 2009-2010 when I believe plans for a trip fell through, North Central has preferred the hot sauce as opposed to anything cold.

Um, I'm pretty sure that this is not a recent development...  ::)

Really, so long as a team isn't vacationing in Decatur, I think there are no losers here...
