I watched the last couple of minutes of the UWSP-NCC game last night.  I have no idea if UWSP had their full complement of players, but, I'd say that NCC would be quite favored in a rematch on a neutral court with Raridon in the lineup.  And, presumable different ref's in the last 40 seconds or so of play.

As a NESCAC fan I can tell you, Daly is a tough mofo.  I can easily imagine him mixing it up even with a big guy.  Absolutely fearless relentless dude.  Midd is REALLY quick when Baines plays; he's easily the quickest guy on the team.  They aren't going to kill anyone in the paint but they can fly up the court.

Matt "say no more" was highly touted coming out of high school and has lived up to expectations.  He's a preseason 2nd team All American.  The top New England teams are always tough.  Loved the interview with Daly, poised and coherent.  D3 kids seem to give better interviews than many, not all, D1 and NBA players.

Given that there's nothing else to talk about, let's see what Ken Massey's cybernetic marvel has to say:

    6. North Park
  10. Illinois Wesleyan
  18. Augustana
  27. North Central
  48. Wheaton
  59. Carthage
  67. Carroll
113. Elmhurst
320. Millikin

Massey sez:

Wheaton 76, UC-Santa Cruz 65 (WC 85%, UCSC 15%)
Carroll 78, Dallas 68 (CU 83%, Dallas 17%)
Elmhurst 79, Mary Hardin-Baylor 78 (EC 52%, UMHB 48%)
UW-Stevens Point 66, North Central 62 (UWSP 62%, NCC 38%)
Illinois Wesleyan 77, Middlebury 71 (IWU 69%, Middlebury 31%)
Calvin 76, Millikin 66 (Calvin 82%, MU 18%)

I would not have predicted that Elmhurst @ Mary Hardin-Baylor would be the only nailbiter prognostication made by the HAL 9000, but there you go.

Thus, the CCIW had a disastrous day, going 1- 4 5... with only Millikin able to carry the water for the league.

I was about to say how well Massey predicted yesterday's games... as UWSP beat NCC by 2 (just two points of from the prediction).

But then I noticed that the other 5 games were wrong. Not a good day if you "bet by Massey" yesterday.

I tried watching some of Manchester's game at Bethel (IN) last night, but it was so one-sided that I turned it off, since it was obvious that I wasn't going to really learn much about the Spartans. The Pilots eviscerated Man U to the tune of 101-67 in a game in which the Pilots led by 40 points with about eight minutes to go, but I'm not sure how much that really means. Bethel (IN) is and has been an NAIA powerhouse for a long time, and, like their Crossroads League rival Indiana Wesleyan, the Pilots look more like a D2 team than your garden-variety NAIA outfit.

Adrian Johnson, a 5'11 sophomore guard, was last season's d3hoops.com Great Lakes Region FOY, and he's certainly a pretty talented player. He and 6'1 junior (and Chicago native) Kenny Doss looked like the only Spartans who belonged on the floor with the Pilots. The other double-digit scorer on the season besides Johnson is 6'5 senior forward Tyler Alexander. When the HCAC gurus looked at the fact that the Spartans had three starters coming back, one of whom was Johnson, and that the team was adding the leading scorer and second-leading rebounder from HCAC rival Defiance as a transfer (Alexander), I'm sure that it seemed reasonable to them to pick Man U to finish fourth out of ten in that league's preseason poll. It obviously hasn't gone as well as had been predicted for the Spartans thus far, but it's not because they've lost any of the players whom they were expected to use.

On paper this looks like an easy win for NPU. But the Park has been off since the Trine game eight days ago, while Manchester played yesterday, so there may be some rust involved on the NPU side. In an empty gym against an opponent whose season would have a genuine highlight if it could knock off the #13 team in the country, there is no room for complacency here on the part of the Vikings.

Complacency or not, I will be watching a blowout.

IWU without leading scorer Brady Rose today (flu).

Sorry to hear of Brady's illness, but he obviously wasn't needed against Bridgewater - Titans up 26 halfway thru the 2nd.

Gregory Sager

Elmhurst beat Sul Ross State, 71-64, to finish third in UMHB's tourney. Jake Rhode finished a fine tournament performance by leading the 'jays with 19 points. He was joined in double figures by Ryan Patton with 16, Jalen Loving with a 15 and 13 double-double, and Nathan Rogers, who added 10 points to a fine 5:1 floor game.

Titans up big, by over 20 vs. Bridgewater, with about 4 minutes to play.  All the pine-sitters getting some time.  Titans finish Staten Island visit 1-1, now 9-3 returning to CCIW play with a game with MU first week of January.

Happy New Year all (already New Year's eve in Hong Kong!)  -- enjoy the Big Apple, Titans!  Have fun, be well, be safe.

Final on Staten Island, IWU over Bridgewater 79-60.

Nick Coleman continues to play well for the Titans.

It's back to to Bloomington soon and the CCIW grind.

Get well, Brady.

Mr. Ypsi

IWU 79, Bridgewater 60, in a game not nearly as close as the final score suggests!  The Titans got to give the end-of-the-bench guys plenty of court time in this one.  Sorry Brady got the flu (NOT fun :P), but better against this team than against any conference rival.

There is only one person who can eject officials. The person paying them.

Huge event in Milwaukee.  Big time coaches there. Two,shoe company teams going at it.  Officials were jawing w moms in the stands.  Guy running the event ran over, stopped the game, sent all three refs packing and brought over 3 others who just finished another game.

No honeymoon in Vegas for the Thunder as they go 0-2 losing to Hardin Simmons 79-63.  It was not a pretty sight at all.

The Cowboys shot 57% from the field but that was primarily due to the high % of layups and close in baskets.  Wheaton came out with a little more energy than Wed but their defense at times was just plain awful.  I think Hardin Simmons is a really good team- apparently they were hit with some early injuries and are now just getting everyone healthy and playing.  Of course, it's hard to tell playing against the Thunder who were just simply overmatched talent-wise, but the Cowboys looked as good as any of the CCIW contenders this year.  They are senior led, have size and lots of athletic talent.

Aston Francis led the Thunder with 16pts, 6 asst, 5 stls but did not have a very good shooting game.  Ricky Samuelson chipped in 15.

WC needs a little gut-check between now and Wednesday or it could be another cold winter.
