Mr. Ypsi

Geez, Louise, maybe Millikin should be relegated to SLIAC. ::)

To me, firing Nadelhofer indicates that either they have no interest in being competitive in MBB or that they have no clue.

Before this gets buried in game posts related to tomorrow night, I want to put this list of the league's 2,000-point scorers here for historical purposes:

The CCIW's 2K Club

  1. Leon Gobczynski, Millikin  1972-75  2,635
  2. Dave Shaw, Carroll  1974-77  2,563
  3. Steve Djurickovic, Carthage  2008-11  2,547
  4. Mel Peterson, Wheaton  1957-60  2,542
  5. Kent Raymond, Wheaton  2005, 2007-09  2,308
  6. Jack Sikma, Illinois Wesleyan  1974-77  2,272
  7. Bill Warden, North Central  1952-55  2,249
  8. Jesse Price, Millikin  1966-69  2,222
  9. Scott Steagall, Millikin  1948-51  2,127
10. Jason Wiertel, Carthage  1999-2002  2,113
11. Michael Thomas, North Park  1978-81  2,085
12. Blaise Bugajski, Illinois Wesleyan  1980, 1982-84  2,062
13. Marv Johnson, Wheaton  1948-51  2,044
14. Justyne Monegain, North Park  1982-85  2,039
15. John Laing, Augustana  1970-73  2,035
16. Juwan Henry, North Park  2014-17  2,016

Can Juwan keep moving up the list, or do only regular-season games get counted for these totals?

In college basketball, all games count statistically towards season and career totals.

Millikin press release

Nadelhoffer resigned, but that may mean something only for the sake of severance details. It's pretty common for an AD to call in a coach and say, "Look, here's your choice. You can jump or be pushed."

I think Millikin made a big mistake.

Titan Q

He definitely did not resign...they fired him.

Gregory Sager

Well, then, that either makes SID Bryan Marshall a liar or the perpetrator of a pretty serious mistake in wording, both of which I find very hard to believe, or it means that somebody at Millikin has forced him to release a false statement against his will, because the second word in the headline of the press release clearly says "Resigns" -- and it's repeated in the first paragraph of the release.

As I said, there's definitely such a thing as an involuntary resignation, and to some people it's a distinction without a difference. But it is a distinction. The press release says what it says.

Coach N's highest win total in conference play was four in year two.  Overall, he was equally underwhelming.  He had abysmal winning percentages though I recognize NPU has been even more patient with several football coaches who had worse winning percentages.

Someone said on this board that Millikin's enrollment has been decreasing.  Having said that, Millikin has bigger issues than its struggling men's basketball team.

Well, they're certainly not going to say it was an involuntary resignation in the press release, so just plain resigned or fired are the only choices.

Besides, TQ seems pretty sure of his info.

It's often SOP in business to call a guy in and fire him, but tell him that if he keeps quiet they will say he resigned so as not to jepordize future job prospects. The primary objective is to have the guy be gone. If that can be accomplished without either the firm (school in this case) or the now ex employee having to suffer a public relations hit by saying he resigned rather than he was fired, so much the better.

A key word that hints at a firing is when the press release contains the word immediately, as in "he resigned immediately. If it's just a plain old resignation the mention that he is out the door, immediately does not need to be emphasized.

Alternative Facts?

It wouldn't be surprising to learn that MU issued a statement yesterday stating that "Coach Nadelhoffer has the full support of the university administration."  ::)

Speaking of losing teams, where do Viking guards Rick Alspaugh (he played on some really pathetic Viking teams in the early post-Bosko era) and Juwan Henry rank for most treys made?

One thing that did pan out pretty much as theorized in the preseason was Carroll finding the sledding to be much tougher in the CCIW than in the MWC. After finishing 15-3 (2nd) in the Midwest, and 20-5 overall last year, and returning the majority of it's team, CU ended it's first season in the CCIW at 13-12 overall, and 8-8 in the conference. This mark was good for only a sixth place tie in the 9 team conference.

Quick question regarding Carroll with regular season in the books.  Is everyone in agreement more or less that Carroll was a neutral to good addition as far as basketball is concerned?  That is, no downside?

We had to play three conference games in December because of the Pios.  From a basketball standpoint, bad.
in terms of competition good addition, I think.  The question is, like Carthage, can they compete for recruits against the state WIAC schools.  In terms of scheduling and logistics, not good - you noted December conference games, a long ride to Carrolland back, and on the plus side a bye built into schedule for every team which can help with injuries.
I think the larger question asking is will somebody drop out and change conferences or will a tenth team be added?

I doubt we see any changes. The CCIW was a nine-school league for a long time; try adding in a tenth school and see how big a cluster that makes basketball scheduling, among other sports. I don't see anyone leaving either. We had talked about it a few months back and the topic of Millikin leaving came up, just because they make the most sense of the nine geographically, but why would they leave? Their best alternative is the SLIAC, which, with all due respect to the SLIAC, is not the CCIW.
I did not mean to imply a pending change.  Nor do I really see any change soon across the conference.  I do see maybe a little more things like a Rose Hulman participating in swimming where maybe not all CCIW schools offer a sport.  From a basketball perspective. It is challenging enough adding Carroll.

Grinnell would be a wonderful addition to the CCIW.   ;)
