Wasn't the prettiest game, but Augie will move on to the Elite 8, with gritty defensive effort against Wartburg.  Final 80-69.

How can you say it wasn't the prettiest game?  I thought Augie was outstanding. Defensively great offensively efficient. I thought they were outstanding.

As I said, Augie really tightened the screws on the Wartburg offense in the second half. Box score's now up, so check out these numbers: First half: Wartburg 15-30 (50%) FG, 4-6 (67%) trey. Second half: Wartburg 9-32 (28%) FG, 2-9 (22%) trey. That's really getting after it in the final stanza.

Congrats to Juwan Henry!  Represent CCIW proud.  Love that guy.

He earned it. D3hoops.com used to have a feature called "Milestones", in which the site would track landmark coaching wins, players scoring their thousandth point, programs passing the thousand-win mark, stuff like that. I don't remember seeing a lot of 2,000-point scorers getting the nod on "Milestones", and, although the feature is gone, I don't remember any of the other rooms on d3boards.com hailing a fresh member of the 2K Club this season.

Juwan, along with his sidekick Jordan Robinson, put North Park basketball back on the map. He will not be soon forgotten at Foster & Kedzie.

Augie wins it, 80-69.  FIVE Vikings in double-digits.

Ebel with 16, Orange with 15, Benning with 14 off the bench, Sortillo and Martin with 11 apiece. Hard to beat a team that's getting that kind of offensive distribution. Martin and Ferguson had eight rebounds apiece, as Wartburg had all kinds of trouble with Augie's size down low.

Too many unforced turnovers, particularly in the second half.  As GS said, you usually don't see a team turn it over that much and win by double digits.  Agree that they played well on D and were efficient on O, but they had some stretches in the second half with too many careless turnovers.  Other than that, it was a very good effort by Augie!

Hmm, interesting. I have no idea how it leaked out. As you can see, it was posted on the NPU athletics page this afternoon.

They called him an at-large selection, which isn't really a thing (other than the D3hoops.com fan vote) - so perhaps somebody dropped out and they had to call him to see if he was interested?  They usually do three players from each region.  I don't know why they chose, so it's only a guess, but other than Ty Sabin as the shoe-in, there are a lot of good choices in the Central.

Simple... schools are given the head's up, but told they are to wait until the NABC makes the announcement as this weekend's games have a bit of an affect.

Good luck Vikings.

Watching the live stream, which by the way was one of the best I've seen with no buffering, pixeling etc, I thought it was funny when at the conclusion of the game one of the broadcasters stated something to the effect that it was the first time the Vikings had been challenged in the playoffs and they had handled it well.  I can't remember his exact words but I wondered if he had spent last weekend in a cave somewhere.   ;)

Being students I'm sure they had a crash course in Wartburg and Augustana doings, its very easy to get your research crossed in situations like that.

You do not need pretty just a "W" at this point in the tournament.  Keep going Augie (ph, hurts to write that). Hanover vs Augie should be a good game in what will likely be an empty arena.
