So one thing that sorta stinks for this thing is this example:

Lets say that Augie sells all of its 500 tickets (who knows if this will even happen), and Augie wins and LU wins too.  Then, on Saturday, only 350 of those 500 will be able to see the championship.  So you got 150 people that drive up for the game and all that but dont get to see the championship.  Guess there is no way around it but it might make up my mind.  I dont want to drive 10 hours and not get to see the championship game if that were to happen
Hey AS, I guess those of us we can't get tickets could always watch the game from the green room ::)

I think the 350 limit is if LU wins vs. IWU. If IWU wins and LU is not at the Champ, wouldn't the ticket numbers revert to the 50/50 as in the Augie/UPS game?  The press release may be worded the way it is for the case that if Lawrence wins, the opposing team would only be allotted those 350 tickets, but if IWU wins, then the extra 150 could be sold?

...and about the GreenRoom... how loud do fans have to get to be heard in the gym?  ;D

Smaller facility and a little thumping is OK.  IWU has certainly played in front of large crowds and in hostile environments.  IWU has played in front of 61,000 Illini fans this year with an Orange Crush section rated by 56% of the Big 10 as the toughest place to play.

61,000? I assume that is a typo since Assembly Hall holds about 16,000.

16,000 is obviously the more correct number, but that is still a big enough number to make the point, right?

"A maximum of 350 tickets will be sold to the fans of the winning team following the completion of Friday's first game between Augustana and Puget Sound. The remaining tickets will be sold at the completion of the Lawrence-Illinois Wesleyan game."

For people that went to many fine D3 schools a few seem to have a little reading comprehension problem.

I read this and it plainly states the remaining tickets go on sale after completion of the second game.  Obviously LU is holding back some tickets in case they win for their fans.  That is the beauty of home court advantage.  I have been watching this go back and forth all and I have to say that as a neutral observer it seems that many CCIW fans are in fact whining about the ticket issue.  Justintyme comes on and lets people know what is going on at LU and how you can see the other game if you travel there and people jump on him for it.  I have to say there seems to a little bit of a spoiled attitude from some CCIW fans, some seem to have a bizarre sense of entitlement because their conference is one of the best.  At least to these Gothic Knight green tinted glasses it appears to be so.

Mugsy: Remember that it's the other Michigan IWU fan, Mr. Ypsi, who is the certified statistician. If he had made the typo error, it would have been inexcusable.

Old School: No, the U. of I. couldn't draw 60,000 fans to Memorial Stadium unless it was an April celebration of the U. of I. basketball team's NCAA championship. The U. of I. did that last year to celebrate the 2nd place finish and more fans showed up for that event than the number of  football fans that are still left in the 4th quarter of Illini home games (after the band plays and the Chief dances).

Certainly a better chance of a bigger crowd for the Illini/IWU bball game than a Illini football game given their play over the past few years.  Hopefully Coach Zook can turn it around...

1.  I'm not whining...just stating a possible problem.  Why is it always that someone is whining when they are just bringing up a possible problem for fellow Augie fans to get tickets.

2.  This problem will probably not occur because I don't know if Augie will even get 350 people up there...I hope we do but Augie crowds have been rather apathetic over the past few years.

3.  I don't really feel like driving 10 hours to sit in the green room although I think that is a nice alternative for some.

4.  I've never sat here and said that Augie deserves to host this and that Lawrence doesn't, obviously LU has earned that right...no whining there.

5.  The reason I stated 350 tickets is because I also stated that would be the case if LU WINS...if IWU wins, my take on it is that IWU fans would get atleast their 350 and the rest would be opened up to both teams.  I'm sure that if LU wins, the remaining 650 will go to them (although I don't know how you prove which team you support besides the colors you are wearing).

6.  I really don't understand why some people consider my previous post whining.  I'm 10 hours away and just have brought up a ligetimate concern of my own.  I don't want to drive 10 hours, see the semifinal and then somehow I end up not getting a ticket and sitting in the green room.  Add to that my expenses for driving a round trip of 1150 miles and hotel/food, etc.  It is a legitimate concern for a college grad student.  Now tell me, how am I whining?

augie_superfan

One more thing to add...

If LU wins and they don't get the remaining 650 tickets, isn't it an unfair ticket advantage to the winners of Augie-UPS because they get a guarenteed 350 plus they can get in and try to get tickets right after semi #2?

Knightstalker

I would think the opposite would be true.  The fans attending the first game would be able to line up at the box office, table, turnstyle or whatever LU uses when selling tickets, I have seen all of the above being used before.  My point is, the fans would stay in the gym watching the second game while the fans from the winning team (and probably a few others that figure while I am here might as well watch) in game one are already in line.  That or they clear the building a second time.

Augie I agree with every point you have made...I was being extremely sarcastic when I said to be careful that Justin would say that you were whining!  He was doing that all day when someone would bring up possible problems with Tickets...I also cannot blame you for not wanting to drive 10+ hours to sit in the green room to watch the game.  If you do decide to come up please let me know and I will try and hook up with you there.  This has been a great year for Augie basketball, hopefully we can continue to find ways to win.

The CCIW has hosted 1 Sectional in the last 9 years, knight (Carthage 2002).  I really don't think there is any sense of entitlement because to be quite honest, the league has been passed over for Sectionals year after year after year.  The fact we have a competitive league where great teams lose 3-5 games doesn't jive with the numbers game.  We're used to it.

We just have people who have been there for the ups and downs of their teams all season long and really want to be there for the biggest games of the season to support their friends/sons/brothers/etc.  If you take that frustration as whining then so be it.

And by the way, I haven't read a single post yet here since the site was awarded that suggests that anyone but Lawrence deserves to host the Sectional.  CCIW posters have made it very clear since Sunday morning that Lawrence hosting is only fair.

I would not hesitate to go North expecting to see both games. Just bring a pocketful of cash with you. I've never failed to find at least one student that would sell his ticket for the right price. After all they get the cash, and the green room doesn't seem so bad.

It also appears most CCIW fans are wearing their rose colored glasses (or is it green tinted glases) and expect a Titan victory Friday night. If that happens there will be plenty of tickets for Saturday night's game particularly if UPS beats Augie.

I do not see more than 100 to 150 UPS fans making the trip, so IWU fans should be able to see the first game Friday night, as I doubt Augie meets there 500 allotment, unless some buses are scheduled from the QC. The second game Friday may be hard ticket for Augie fans, but again if the price is right someone will sell you there ticket.

I just hope Augie is playing Saturday night. I'd like to have the ticket problem to deal with in exchange for an Augie victory.

Despite a smaller attendance figure, the size of the facility will certain amplify the noise.  Fewer people, but in a much smaller building.  Expect Alexander to be thumping.

It may be thumping, but certainly no more intimidating than this...

Or any CCIW road game for that matter.

Lawrence may win, but I don't think the thumping will be that much of a factor.
