NCC RECRUIT

North Central is pleased to announce that they have received a cardinal commitment from Garrett Fant, a 6'1" SG from Lake Park HS in Roselle. Garrett became a primary recruiting target of the Cardinals almost from the first game of the season, and was followed closely throughout. He was
the 2nd leading scorer in DuPage County this past season.

* All-Conference, First Team - DuPage Valley Conference
* All Area, DuPage County - Daily Herald
* All State Class 4A Fourth Team - Illinois Basketball Coaches Association

* Points per game - 19.0
* Assists per game - 4.1
* Rebounds per game - 4.0
* Free Throw % - 79.1%
* Field Goal % - 54.6%
* Three Point % - 51.5%

That's a really nice pickup for the Cardinals.  I saw Fant several times this year, including three or four times at the Wheeling Hardwood Classic over break.  It is fair to say that he was clearly the best, and maybe only, legitimate threat on Lake Park this year.  It was obvious that he was who the other team would prepare for - and good teams still had trouble keeping him from doing what he wanted to do.  Nice recruit.

70, Greek, pete,

I know Garrett appreciates your comments. NCC feels very lucky to have gotten him.
I was tempted to use the S word to describe him, but it seems use of that word north of I-80 has been declared illegal.  ;)  :o

Actually, if I'm remembering that tempest in a teapot correctly, it was you who rejected the term for recruits SOUTH of I-80! ;D

AndOne

Yes, Ypsi, I did. But my rejection of the word certainly hasn't prevented it from being used, especially south of I-80.  ;)

Its just my personal preference, but I don't really believe the s word is applicable to any recruit because I don't think a kid can be a s---------t collge player until he actually gets to college AND accomplishes something. You can say a kid had a s HS career, but that doesn't make him s in any way at the next level.
Again, its JMHO. Doesn't mean I'm any more right or wrong than anyone else.  :-\

Since I can't recall anyone protesting a 'significant' label on a recruit north of I-80 (and iwu70 even used the 'S' designation for your guy), it appears that the 'illegality' of the label 'significant'  is only from you. :o ;D

Completely off-topic (if there are any topics at this time of year) but this was too funny to pass up. This was in the ESPN story on Labron James' bad game yesterday.  He was confronted by a Cleveland fan after the game.

"What did you do?" James said in response, prompting the fan to rattle off his playing experience on the basketball team at a local liberal arts college before security intervened to usher the fan away from the hallway where James was walking.

Obviously the writer does not take basketball experience at a "local liberal arts college" very seriously.  My doubt is that King James would have done so either.  ;D :o 8-)

Likely yet another article by a sports journalist who has no or little knowledge of how D3 operates or it's relevance to the overall national sports scene.

King James inability to relate to any basketball experience at a "local liberal arts college" is very likely on par with King Donald's inability to relate to the daily life experience(s) of any of his average serfs making $50,000 to $100,000. 🃏 🤑 🙁

Mark, we've got an unwritten rule here about keeping political content off of CCIW Chat. Please observe it.

Just because there aren't any active topics here at the moment doesn't mean that we need or would welcome a political brouhaha to fill the void.

To be fair to King James, I'm not sure he could relate to ANY college basketball experience.....   ;D

Forgive me my Lord for I have sinned.
In defense of my transgression I offer two items of mitigation;
1. The rule is unwritten. Thus mine eyes have never beheld, nor my ears ever absorbed, said unwritten rule.
2. Reading the word "King" automatically triggered a vision of the individual named in my post, and set my fingers in motion across the keyboard.

While an occasional brouhaha, as you term it, can be an exquisitely provocative and mind expanding experience, I shall endeavor in the future to comply with all of the rules of the Kingdom, either expressly stated or, in their unwritten form, implied.  ;)

Gregory Sager

Your sarcasm isn't particularly effective, since that unwritten rule has been in place for almost all of the twenty-year history of this room, and you've been an active participant here for a very, very long time now. It's hard to believe that you haven't noticed the complete absence of political discussion on CCIW Chat during all that time.

We swing enough sharp elbows in here over our respective CCIW basketball allegiances. Why not focus upon maintaining the civility of the room rather than needlessly upping the ante on the potential ill will by injecting politics into things?

Plus I'm not sure how my comment had anything to do with politics. Labron's nickname is a marketing tool not reflective of an elected office.
