NPU frosh Matt Szuba was an all-area player. Excellent rebounder, very good passer, and above average scorer.
Frosh Matt Mohr was honorable mention all-area.

Augie's 2017-18 roster was posted on the school's website today by Dave Wrath. Pierson Wofford is listed on the roster. Never heard what his transgression was last year. Does anyone here know what he did to get suspended?

Whatever the story he is getting a second chance. If he behaves himself, he shoulD be a big help this season.

As predicted no Jordan Robinson on the NPU roster. A huge loss for the other Vikings.

When we first noticed Wofford was off the roster, Dave went and found this:

Wofford just played Wednesday - http://static.augustana.sidearmsports.com/custompages/Men's%20Basketball%20Stats/2016-17mbbstats/17mbb18.htm. So I guess whatever happened went down since then.

Article with Coach G comment - http://www.qconline.com/sports/college_sports/without-wofford-augie-men-suffer-tough-road-loss/article_7e668eb5-d296-560a-af23-ddfa25366c88.html.

Rather interesting... I did a search and discovered this: http://www.qconline.com/news/crime/protection-orders-filed-after-augustana-incident/article_6b2adccd-0360-5669-bdd6-4d98c4a65f72.html

I realize this might have been brought up on the boards previously, but considering I couldn't keep up over the summer with this page, I may not have seen it. While it appears Wofford was a "victim" in this case... could it still possibly be related? Very interesting year for Mr. Wofford.

Like Dave said, I don't know if the two things are related. Either way, it's definitely a huge readdition for Augie.

I know the release just came out today, but I had heard about this on Friday when I worked a women's alumni game. They wanted me to work the doubleheader, but I've got another commitment, so I'm assuming Clark, our SID, will take my seat. Awesome idea though, and something I'm glad they're doing. I'll just have to try to poke my head in if my schedule allows.

Whoa. Hold on a second. There are more articles and information out there than whatever number exist that paint Wofford solely as a victim.

YES, no doubt about it, Mr. Wofford was indeed a victim having been the recipient of a vicious beating which resulted in his jaw being broken on both sides and having been wired shut. The assailant was arrested. However, it was also mentioned that the assailant's car had been keyed prior to his attacking Mr. Wofford. I could find no further information regarding the outcome of this his aspect of the case. As such, from the information available, it can't be stated Mr. Wofford was guilty of this action.

However, think for a minute. If Mr. Wofford was solely a victim here---if he did nothing wrong ---why in the world would he be suspended from the team for the remainder of last season?
Does it make any sense whatsoever that Augie would suspend a player who did nothing wrong and was solely a victim? Why in the world would this happen? Logically, it seems evident that Mr. Wofford was at least a bit more than a victim. Whether it was something that precipitated him being the victim of being illegally assaulted and battered, or some other action that was not on the up and up, the word "victim" does not appear to paint a completely clear picture in this particular case as completely innocent victims don't get suspended. Do they? 🤔

At any rate he is back, and Augie remains one of the country's top teams.

For the record, AndOne, my statement was a quote from last season. At that time, that was basically the only article. If there is more after that, feel free to share. I haven't looked around since he was kicked out of the college and thus off the team last semester. I didn't find anything new for a week or two and moved on. Again, that quote was from that time period... not of late. And my comments were basically, this appears to make it seem he is the victim, but there appears more was going on that isn't being reported.

Dave,

My comment was not meant as a criticism. Rather to just try to complete the picture and bring things up to date. I am not going to dig them out, but I saw some newspaper articles that made reference to damage to the assailant's car. Doesn't mean Wofford did it. The point is "victim" is not a good description as somewhere in there he did something bad enough to get suspended--which is not something that would befall a "victim."
Also, I think he was just kicked off the team for the rest of the year, not out of school.

Honestly, the entire thing has confused me. I haven't been able to make head or tails of any of it.

I thought he was kicked out of the school at least for the semester because of talk that he was off the team by a move made far higher than athletics.. but like I said... I've gotten all kinds of confused.

and

Senior Leighton Lark (can't find a tweet but he has been removed from the MU roster)

Guess I was a bit surprised that NCC wasn't a bit higher in the pre-season poll.  As several have said, doesn't really mean much at this point, though they have tons coming back.

Less than two weeks now, we can get this season going.  Looking forward.  Augie will be so tough.  Perhaps third times' the charm . . .

Congrats to the greatest Titan, Jack Sikma, on his induction into the Small College Hall of Fame.

Q, any thoughts now on what you know to be the likely starting five and those likely to figure in the varsity rotation?  I hope Bonnett is back now, getting his legs and timing.  Looks to be a very, perimeter, guard-oriented offense and team this year.  We're going to need some scoring, surely rebounding from the front line, whomever that turns out to be.  Up tempo and more treys?

Football season winding down.  Time to move inside.

I had NCC much farther down the list until I realized this is the exact same team I thought was a solid Top 5 squad to start last year.  With so many question marks elsewhere, I'm willing to bet on talent, at least in this case.

Guess NCC has to prove itself . . . get the injured guys back, and put it all out on the floor.  I would have had them in the top 10 for sure.

Time will tell.

Augie gonna be real tough.
