I am pretty confident North Central is a Top 10-caliber team, but I think their placement in the preseason poll is just about right.  They can move up quickly by playing well.

I am surprised more voters didn't go with Augustana #1.

There wasn't any specific mention in the information provided to voters about the injuries, so it's possible some of the voters didn't know or didn't remember that NCC has two all-american candidates out most of the year.  The names were there as returners, but nothing to specifically remind us of the injuries.  Those of us who did remember, I suspect, have them ranked pretty high.

Refresh my memory, Who was the other all American candidate out for most of the year?

It was just one - Raridon.

So, was it one or two?

It's one.  I've been thinking and searching rosters.  I have absolutely no idea where that came from.  I haven't been sleeping a lot.  I don't even know who I was thinking of if they were on another team.

I think it is pretty hard to go against Whitman who returns absolutely everyone from a nearly perfect season over Augustana who made a crazy run at the end and lost a couple of key parts of that team (not that they can't be replaced) - Jacob Johnson the most notable.

I know some who contemplated Augustana, but I am not very surprised Whitman took the bulk of the votes (over those who's policy it is to always vote for the defending champs until they are knocked off).

I can understand the logic behind Whitman getting a first place nod.  That said, Augustana is coming back stronger than what they were during their Final Four run.  Yes they lose Johnston, but sixth man Brett Benning was statistically Johnston's equal (per minutes of play), and he's ready to step in to Johnston's role.

Then you add in the return of Pierson Wofford (back from mid season dismissal from team) who was the team's number two rebounder, statistically, while averaging 11 points per game....

Those freshmen and sophomores from last year are experienced and hungry.  I like Augustana's resume, and am also surprised the Vikings didn't get a single first place vote.

I get all you posted and why I have Augustana #2... but that also said, a lot of what you revealed leaves us with unknowns: will Wofford be as good after last season's turmoil; will he be better? Great, freshmen and sophomores are experienced and hungry, but what does that actually mean and is it really something that will happen; will they actually play better or does everyone know them better now and it will be more of a challenge (same with Whitman).

For me, Whitman seemed fully formed and Augie seemed to be growing into the team they'll be.  I tend to go with the known over the unknown to start the year (it's also why I was the lowest vote for Babson).   Every team has a chance to play themselves up the rankings.

Good cause.  May have to take that in.

Believe it or not, we are busy already at Hoopsville. Just dropped the second preseason podcast with two more to go. Today's features Millikin's Mark Scherer. He is the third guest of the show: http://www.d3hoops.com/hoopsville/archives/2017-18/preseason-podcasts

You will also find the previous podcast on that page which talks about the new NCAA Men's Coordinator of Officials which many here may be interested in.

Mark is an EC alum and worked several years in Development at the college.  He's a great guy with a clear proven track record as a coach.  Wish him the best with the Millikin program.
