Carthage roster is up.

One key player not on the roster is Drew Joiner.  He was a sixth or seventh man last year.  Very athletic and someone who I thought would log a lot of minutes this year.

Not many D3's with a 6'11 and 6'10 player on the roster! I know nothing about the freshman ... but certainly will be interesting to watch this year...

I have no idea why, but I was curious and looked up Drew Joiner.  He returned home to Colorado and is on the roster at Division I Denver.

Guys that stood out to me tonight:

1. Miles Curry, 6-6 So. F - looks like he is going to have a big season.

2. Alex O'Neill, 6-9 So. C - should be a really good 5 for the Titans this year.

3. Grant Wolfe, 5-11 Fr. PG - 6 assists in his collegiate debut, very talented pure PG.

IWU shot it miserably tonight and played a pretty sloppy game overall.  But it's clear the Titans have a lot of talent.

Elmhurst 80
Manchester 74

Elmhurst was down 74-66 with 1:42 to go before scoring game's final 14 points to pull off the comeback win in home/season opener. 'Jays absolutely stifling defense down the stretch led them to the win.

Former NCC Cardinal Jeremy Ireland lead all scorers with 24 points to go along with his 12 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 blocks.

Enjoyed the TITAN opener.

Yes, ragged at times, not a great shooting night.

I was also impressed with O'Neal.  Should be very interesting to see how he develops and how he stacks up with Augie's big men and Sorenson.  Curry seems stronger, quicker.

Beasley also had a pretty good game -- 9 rebounds.

Titans get a good chance to improve quickly, with two more games this weekend, Alma and Calvin.  Stiffer competition, I'm sure, esp. from Calvin.

Lots of talent, esp. shooters from the perimeter.

Don't underestimate the NPU squad just yet.  I was at the game last year in Chicago where North Park beat Augie in OT.  Colin Lake is one heck of a playmaker and a great shooter.  He took charge early on in that game and was very tough to handle.  He makes his teammates on the court better players.  They beat us twice last year.  So don't count them out.  The CCIW is one of the toughest conferences in the country, and every victory by the conference members will truly be earned.  You've got NCC, CARTHAGE, IWU, as well as NPU and even CARROLL that will battle it out.  Carroll beat us at their place last year.  Augie has that big time experience from last year's run.  Even Wheaton gave us trouble last year where both victories had to be earned.  I do not know too much about Elmhurst, or Millikin.  If Washington U. wanted to be a basketball member as well, the CCIW would be classified as a SUPER CONFERENCE.  But they will dominate the conference that they're in.  With Colin Lake on your team, there's hope for NPU.  Have a great season.  In conclusion, I want to wish a wonderful and fantastic retirement to my longtime track and field coach, Paul Olsen.  May be enjoy his retirement to the fullest.
