Big game for the Titans tonight in the quest for a CCIW title.  Because of some great road play (wins at Wheaton, North Central, North Park, Carroll, and Elmhurst so far) IWU has been able to absorb a couple disappointing home losses (Carthage, Wheaton) and still be in nice position.

Must-win game tonight against a Carroll team that's playing really well.  Should be a big crowd and great atmosphere at the Shirk Center.

(We have something going in Dallas tonight and I won't be able to watch live.  Will certainly be checking live stats though.)

You can't go out to a nice dinner before the symphony in your nice tux and be looking down at your phone all the time checking live stats. That's frowned upon.  ;D :D ::)

Big day at North Park, as six new members are inducted into the Viking Hall of Fame this afternoon, followed by the women's/men's doubleheader against Wheaton. I will have the privilege and the pleasure of presenting for induction the lone alumnus of the NPU men's basketball program in this year's class of inductees, the late Rick Alspach (C '00). By a happy coincidence, two of the assistant coaches of this year's national runner-up men's soccer team are being inducted as well, three-time All-CCIW forward (twice a first-teamer) Matt Bond (C '08, G'17) and All-American, CCIW Player of the Year, and four-time All-CCIW first-teamer Kristoffer Grahn (C'11, G '13).

It would be a truly great day if it could be capped off by NPU wins over that detested school from DuPage County, but the odds are heavily stacked against both the Vikings men and the women. Hope springs eternal, of course. Perhaps a little bit of soccer mojo might help the Vikings tonight. ;)

Nice tribute to Rick Alspach, Greg.  His brother made a very moving acceptance speech in his memory.  Also honored was Shandrel Young Starks, another Viking star on the courts.

Milikin up 42-39 at the half. Trailing Augie by 8 with 5 minutes left in the first half, Milikin scored the next 12 points to take a 4 point lead and hasn't lost the lead since.  Elijah Henry with 16 points leading the way for Big Blue.

IWU raced out to a 16-5 lead over Carroll, then failed to score for the next six minutes.  The Pios closed it to 13-16, and it has been tight ever since - now 31-28 at the half.  Carroll has never led, but they refuse to go away! :D

Seems to be a fairly sloppy game (I saw back-to-back unforced turnovers by the two teams at one point early on), but hard to say for sure - the video has been frozen more than half the time!  Since video has usually been pretty decent from B'town, I'm guessing there's some sort of glitch at my end; anyone else having trouble with the video?

Augie 83 Milikin 74.  Milikin's last lead of the game came with 9 minutes left, but were within 1 or 2 possessions until the last minute of the game. Good road win as nothing comes easy for this Augie team.

Milikin:
Henry, Elijah     26 pts 7 reb
Beaty, Michael  15 pts
Fisher, Zach      14 pts

Augie:
Ebel, Nolan               19 pts
Benning, Brett          18 pts 6 reb
Orange, Chrishawn  17 pts

Dominant win for the Thunder in Chicago. Francis leads the way with 36 points and 12 rebounds. Eichelberger also chipped in a double double. Samuelson poured in a perfect 5-5 three pointers. For Colin Lakes's sake I wish it was a better game, what a career for that man.

Millikin looked pretty talented to me. IMO, If you don't get in their grill defensively, your going to struggle. Nice win for Augustana on the road.

iwu70

IWU scratches one out at home over Carroll, 70-61, to hold on to the CCIW lead.

Carroll:
Ingebrightsen 12
Zaeske 10
Heesch 10

IWU:
Rose 17
Gregoire 15
O'Neill 14
Bonnett 13

Beasley a monster on the boards, 14

Gotta take them one at a time and keep winning, winning out.  Lots and lots of top 25 teams lost today.  Augie and WC keep pace.

IWU'70

FINAL;  IWU 70, Carroll 61.  Titan scoring was concentrated on Rose, Gregoire, O'Neill, and Bonnett (all between 13 and 17 points), while Carroll's leading scorers each had 12.  Jaylen Beasley only scored 4 points, but outrebounded everyone else on either team by a huge factor: he had 14, the next highest number was 5! :o

Carroll NEVER led the entire game, but were like a swarm of gnats - they never seemed all that threatening, but they just would not go away! :o ;D

The best thing about tonight is that there's less than a week before pitchers and catchers report for the Cubs.

Anything else that I could say about tonight would be something that I would later regret.
