Wheaton student section "taunting profiles" for last night's game vs NCC...

https://twitter.com/AlexSCOREnson/status/965077257558675456

Wow.  Not exactly something to make the Wheaton community proud.  Organized taunting using family members names and other personal information?  How about cheering on your team in a positive manner?  Oh, I almost forgot.........

* Ryken's Rowdies - Does the President of Christ centered Wheaton College really condone the actions of this group of buffoons? A better name for the group would be the Goon Squad. And the President lends his name to this crap?

* Bottom left corner of the "Scouting Report." It's North Central so ANYTHING goes. Really? ANYTHING GOES?  ???

* Making fun, or trying to, of guys names, talking about ex-girlfriends, mentioning players parents and sisters names? I'm sure this has something to do with a basketball game, I just can't figure out what that is.

* Screaming (the obvious) "daddy's boy" at Connor, yelling "I see your bald spot" at the coach, and signs like "Aiden Chang combs his eyebrows." You need to come at us with more than that very weak s—t boys. By the way, the guy who combs his eyebrows just hung 20 on your asses.  ;)

* As far as your frequent chants of "North Central sucks," check the box score boys. I think you'll see the (not very loud) Thunder
got a 17 point beatdown. Who sucks now? Seems like the only ones doing the sucking today are dressed in orange.  ;D

And if this was the NCC football teams cheat sheet no one would be saying a word. This is a non issue in my view. I have heard stuff from other teams fans, NCC included, that make this sheet look like a hymnal. I don't get the issue.

Agree USee, seen and heard much worse over the years.  And who are you talking smack to, AO?  Doubt that any of the students involved are posting on this board and I don't think that Usee, duckfan, etc had anything to do with putting together that sheet.  ???

I didn't even hint at suggesting USee or duckfan were associated in any way. Where are you getting that?

I love everything about the Wheaton cheat sheet.

90-95% of the cheat sheet was based on what the individual player posted on publicly social media or by the team on the team roster.  5-10% was silly speculation

The fans were obviously in the head of Aiden Chang, but he had a great night and used the taunting to his advantage.  It did not work tonight, but it may worked on another night.

Long live the fan groups.

That's the thing -- almost all of the information used was easily found on social media.

I will say this - I think the Wheaton students cross the line when they start bringing up girlfriends and that sort of thing.  I remember last year at Wheaton they kept saying things about Trevor Seibring's girlfriend.  Well, she was sitting right there.  As were her parents...and brother.  I don't think it's fair for a fan to come to a game and be put in a really uncomfortable position.  I would hope the Wheaton students re-think what is right/decent on that front.

In fairness, the Wheaton students did not know his girlfriend/her family were there. Does it make it right? Of course not but rest assured had they known people would have stood up and shut it down. When questionable things are said in the student section, students hold each other accountable and tell the guilty parties to stop. The very nature of a student section is to cheer on your own squad, and get under the skin and in the heads of the opposing team. Something as harmless as "Chang combs his eyebrows" should be a non issue. I'd encourage AO to watch College Gameday to see just how our there the signs can get in the background. Having seen last nights Scouting Report, and many before, I can tell all of you with confidence that most of the information on the sheet is just for laughs and never gets brought up during the course of the game.

It's just college kids being college kids, but I guess it makes sense you all hold Wheaton students to a higher moral standard than say, the frat boys that frequent IWU baseball games above the opposing team's dugout, and NCC students in general at games.

Nope.  It's just that the conversation here on the CCIW men's basketball board is about a specific CCIW men's basketball student section - Wheaton's.

I'd say the same thing if we were talking about baseball fans...including IWU's.  There are many student sections that need to take a little closer look at some of the stuff they do/say.

Generally I think Wheaton's pregame taunting prep is great and funny.  Just pointing out that it can go too far and make completely "innocent" fans feel very uncomfortable.

If you want to chant "Daddy's Boy" at Brady Rose and Connor Raridon for 40 minutes, more power to you.

And that's the thing, Bob. I'm not talking just about easily available social media stuff.
Last night the comments involved girlfriends, family members, peoples physical features etc. There is no way many of the comments didn't cross the line in the same manner as the examples in your post.

And, unfortunately, I am sure I would have done the same in the front row of Fred Young Fieldhouse had I had access to the information. I actually brought a word processor to campus in August of 1989...so safe to say, no internet/social media.  Had I known who Marc Horner's girlfriend was, I would have definitely seen if that info leveraged during the right moment made him miss a FT.

I don't think the Wheaton kids are trying to cross the line or hurt anyone, but it is up to administrators to draw a line somewhere reasonable...and force them to self-police and be accountable.

And again, if you play basketball in the CCIW and tweet out that you like the Backstreet Boys, opposing students are going to sing "I Want it that Way" when you get the ball.  Watch your social media!

Pretty tone deaf by Wheaton considering everything.

🤔 Then the responsible Wheaton administrators aren't doing a very good job in this regard.

I suspect that Francis is still a heavy favorite for MOP

I think pretty good chance it is a co-MOP.

I don't think the contest should be that tight. Francis is a great scorer, but often times it seems the more he shoots the less chance his team has of winning because other capable players with better open looks never get the pass that enables them to take that open shot. He had made 79 three pointers in conference, but there are 14 players who shoot a better 3 point percentage than Francis including a guy on his own team that, at least before last night's game, was leading the nation in 3 point percentage. Plus, his head coach has publicly called him out on radio interview shows for playing matador defense and basically waiving as his man goes by him on the way to the basket.
Nope, Alex Sorenson should be the MOP.

Shocker... If not Francis, Brady Rose is the MOP.

Hard to imagine that any player in the country gets the kind of attention Francis does from opposing teams. Averaging over 30 PPG in conference. All three (Francis, Rose, Sorenson) are stars, but Francis sort of stands out from the pack in my eyes.

Francis should stand out. He's a fantastic talent. I've never seen anyone at the D3 level who can so seemingly effortlessly make shots from as far away as he does. He is a standout performer. However, as spectacular as he often is, he's also pretty one-dimensional. Rose and Sorenson are both more complete players. Rose is the preeminent back court player in the conference, and Sorenson is it's dominant big.

"One-dimensional"? Good grief, Mark.

* Francis is sixth in the league in rebounding at 6.0 rpg. No other guard is ranked in the top ten.
* Francis is sixth in assists at 3.87 apg.
* Francis is tied for fifth in the league in FT% at .833. That's in spite of the fact that he's attempted an astronomical 120 free throws, which averages out to eight per game, and nobody else in the league is close to that number of attempts.
* Francis is third in the league in steals at 1.47 spg.
* Francis is tenth in the league in a:to, which is astonishing when you consider his shooting volume and the fact that he's Wheaton's bailout guy.

Was last night's game the only time that you've seen Aston Francis play this season? Because it sure seems like it, based upon what you've posted.

On the topic of a CCIW HOF, Mel Peterson certainly belongs in the Wheaton College HOF, but I am fairly certain that the years he played at Wheaton were years that WC had dropped out of the CCIW, so perhaps he would not technically be eligible for their HOF.

You have not seen my name here before. I am a Wheaton grad, around the age of Joe Hakes (sorry to hear about your medical situation and hope the healing continues Joe.  We sometimes played in the same neighborhoods back in the 60's).  My son played for Wheaton 2000-2003. And my dad was HTA, which will mean something to Wheaton folks.  I still follow the league, and am delighted about the quality of live streaming of the games; and I occasionally check in to the forum. And my user name refers to my weight, one that I used to laugh about ever reaching, that now I look at in the rearview mirror, at least in the winter.

AndOne

OK. So Francis is more than one dimensional. Maybe it just seems so because you see him shoot so many times a game, it overshadows everything else he might do.
So who is the MOP, Francis or Rose?

Marc Horner stole Jeff Hay's high-school girlfriend. Seriously. Chris went to North Park, Jeff went to Illinois Wesleyan to play point guard for Dennie Bridges, and before you know it, Chris was dating the new center on the NPC basketball team and her old beau down in Bloomington got kicked to the curb. It made NPC vs. IWU games extra spicy back during your student days -- as if they weren't spicy enough, given the level of rivalry at the time. What can I say? Chris liked basketball players. No surprise there, since her uncle is Dan McCarrell. ;)

Unfortunately, Marc never really played very well against IWU. I still kid him to this day that he was allergic to green. Now, Rob Bady, on the other hand ... there's a Viking who had his ups and downs, but who always brought his A game against the Titans.

This kind of thing can backfire. Eight years ago, a friend of mine who was a North Park student at the time did some hunting on Facebook and found out that Steve Djurickovic had just broken up with his girlfriend. So my friend and a bunch of the Carlson Crazies taunted Steve by chanting his ex-girlfriend's name throughout the first half of the CC @ NPU game. Three-point accuracy was not Stevie D.'s major skill, but that night he set a new CCIW record (which his fellow Redman Jordan Thomas broke two weeks ago) by hitting eight of ten three-pointer attempts. I can remember going over to the student section at halftime and suggesting that they might want to pick on somebody besides Stevie D.
