Half...67-54 GC

Stunned at :

1) how well GC shot the 3 for the first 14, 15 minutes... these guys are not particularly good long range shooters

2) how few open layups  Augie has been able to find... every time Augie shoots from 15 and beyond, I consider it a positive for Greenville

Can GC do it for 20 more minutes?   friends, I just don't know....

About time. Maybe Grey is mellowing out.

Greenville's up on Augie at the half, 67-54. Augie is playing a very poor mental game -- too many jumpshots, not enough attacking the basket. Greenville is also badly outworking the much bigger Greymen on the boards, 29-19. The Panthers are shooting a ridiculous 61% from downtown as well; we'll see if they can avoid going cold in the second half, because I think that they're going to need to keep up the shooting pace. Of course, they won't keep shooting 61% from beyond the arc, but I don't think that they can afford to have five or six minutes of empty attempts from out there, which is probably what it would take to even out their percentage at the 34.8% clip they're averaging this season.

Giovanine will be apoplectic in the locker room, I can guarantee you that. It's as if his team just threw their game prep right out the window once the ball was tipped up.

Augie gives up 67 points in the first half, trails Greenville 54-67.  Even the Titan women are now only up by 5 with 2+ to go.  The CCIW is at some risk of going 0-5 on day one (though I believe it will eventually be 2-3).

Meanwhile, Wash U is in a tight one against lightly-regarded Aurora heading into the stretch down in the Gateway City.

Aurora leads by a point and has the ball with 1:17 to go.

Tied with 44 ticks left. Aurora ball.

Aurora up by one with 18 seconds left. AU shooting FTs.

Aurora up by three with 14.2 seconds left. Wash U ball.

St. John's is struggling with Bethany Lutheran. UW-Platteville has its hands full with Monmouth in the second half. Whitworth and CMS have a nailbiter going on in crunch time in Walla Walla.

This is an incredibly unusual and exciting opening night of the tourney.

Holy crap.

Nester of Wash U tied the game with a corner trey with two seconds left. And then Meyer of Aurora wins the game with a buzzer-beater at the other end.

Trust me, this is the biggest upset in D3 tourney history.

I am dead serious.

Biggest. Tourney. Upset. Ever.

And if Augie doesn't get its act together, it could be challenging that dubious Wash U achievement.

Augie has FINALLY taken the lead.  W/ just under 8 to go, they are up 95-93.

I doubt anyone saw this struggle coming.  Even hopefan, the biggest SLIAC booster in the world, only hoped they could hang close for awhile.

Augie still on a 13-0 run - now up 100-93.

Some big upsets.

Not a good night for the CCIW.  NCC and IWU going down.  Augie pulling it out?

WC women lost, IWU came through over Marietta.
