Massey

Augustana 69, vs. North Central 59 (AC 82%, NCC 18%)

The NCC shrubs, who aren't given much of a chance tonight, stopped by the mall earlier this afternoon to purchase some slingshots to take into battle against the Augie sequoias this evening. Perhaps they can combine efficient use of those weapons, plus some of Grad Assistsnt Zach Jadzak's double secret special plays, to turn Massey's overwhelming odds more in their favor. 🤗 😏 ⛹🏼‍♂️

After a tight first half, Augie pulls away in the second half to win pretty easily.  Balanced scoring for Augie.   Ebel with 16 pts, Orange with 15 pts, and Wofford and Martin with 14 pts, each.

Big blowout win by IWU tonight.  We sure needed that one!  Leritz, Baker and Wallen all with strong games tonight.  Usual scoring from the guards:  Gregoire, Rose and Bonnett.

9-5, 2-3 now, climbing our way back into the CCIW race step by step.

Wheaton wins 77-57 in King Arena over Carthage.

Francis: 31 points, 10 rebounds, 7 assists.
Peters: 9 points, 12 rebounds, 5 assists.
Spencer: 11 points and 3 blocks
Peterson: 9 points and 6 rebounds.

The Thunder shot 39% from the field (27-69), 45.2% from 3 (14-31), and a very good 81.2% clip from the FT line (9-11).

For the Red Men:

Baltimore: 19 points and 11 rebounds
Johnson: 11 points and 11 rebounds
Polglase: 9 points on 3-6 shooting from downtown.

28.4% from the field (19-67), 30.8% from 3 (8-26), and 68.8% from the FT line (11-16).

Wheaton won the rebounding battle 51-43. The offensive boards were tied at 14 a piece. Overall a solid win for the Thunder, which saw Aston Francis start off smoldering hot in the first half with 20 points, but he cooled down in the second half. Francis still finished with 31, but also finished with 7 assists. The officials didn't seem to make many friends on either side tonight, but they were consistent (for the most part) all night so can't really fault them for anything. I'll take the 20 point win!

Wheaton played one very good half and one bad half.  Unfortunately for Carthage, the Redmen turned in two bad halves.  New transfer Luke Anthony got his first minutes in for the Thunder, taking minutes from freshman Cruickshank.

Turned in a 5 point and 5 rebound night as well! Looked pretty good, but understandably a little uncomfortable at times within the offense. Practice and reps will help bring him up to speed.

Just saw a replay of a scary play in the NCC and Augie game. Blaise Meredith appeared to block a layup attempt by Crishawn Orange, but then hit his face on the backboard and then hit the ground hard. Appears to be okay and walked off the court under his own power, but that could not have felt very good.

Whoa!  May need to nominate "facial impression on basketball backboard" to Webster's Dictionary as another definition for "faceplant"

I have to say that of all the potential dangers lurking in my immediate vicinity, hitting my face on the backboard has never been something I've really needed to worry about. :)

Glad that he appears to be okay.

It's beginning to appear that an evil spirit has cast a spell over the Cardinals, and has begun using them for voodoo dolls. First Aiden Chang, and then Jack Bronec go down for the season. Tonight, a backboard gets in the way of Blaise Meredith's face as he flies through the air. It flips him causing him to land on his face and chest with a sickening thud. Potentially more dangerous than Aiden's and Jack's injuries. DAMNNNNNN! ENOUGH ALREADY!
Time to call in the High Priestess to cast out the evil spell.  🦹‍♀️  👿

Fortunately for Blaise and the Cardinals, he returned to the game and everything looks like he will be okay. A scary play for certain, but the witch doctor can stay at home for now🙌🏻
