Titan Q

IWU was given 350 tickets (about).  After the players and coaches get done with those, there won't be many left to actually sell to the public.  It's easiest to just call the Salem Civic Center direct.

IWU had about 300 in Appleton Friday and about 500 Saturday.  There's a chance 800 - 1000 IWU fans will make it to Salem.  President Richard Wilson is organizing the Titan community with plans for multiple fan busses made already.  I believe the Titan band and cheerleaders are also making the trip.

Also should note we have 4 fan buses going out including a 35 piece pep band. The buses will leave from the Shirk Center east parking lot at midnight on Thursday and will drive straight through. There is still some room on two of the buses. The cost is $110 which includes game tickets for all games. Buses will return on Sunday morning. Hotel rooms are reserved for those taking the buses. Prices range from $80 - $129/room. Contact the Alumni Office for reservations (309) 556-3093 or mbible@iwu.edu.

Pat,

Good interview tonight on WJBK!

IWU head coach Scott Trost will be on WJBC's Sports Talk at about 8:10pm CST...link posted above.

Oops, sorry to mess up the call letters!  Since I haven't listened to the station in 36 years (except for your links, where paying attention to the call letters hardly matters!), I blew it!  Wow - Pat and Scott in a single evening.  Can I expect anything more than 'coachspeak' in 15 minutes?

Ok since you are a stat guy there is a chance you could redeem yourself with the station channel # AM _ _ _ _   Hint the station number and the call letters come up in the QuickTime Player windows  :o ::)

iwum - 1230!

I DID listen to Scott Trost (as well as Pat Coleman earlier) - a lot of 'coachspeak', of course, but he was more forthcoming than I had anticipated.  I got the definite impression that he would be devastated with anything less than the title - and that he EXPECTS it, unless THEY screw up.  I LIKE that in a coach! ;D

Mr. Ypsi, did we just listen to the same interview??  I did not hear anything remotely close to:

"I got the definite impression that he would be devastated with anything less than the title - and that he EXPECTS it, unless THEY screw up."

??

A nice interview on WJBC by Jim Williams who sounds like a fine in-studio host type.  I tell ya, I am going to have to give up on listening to Williams as a play by play guy though.  It's just real rough.  I listened to both IWU games this weekend and you just do not have any idea what is going on.  A shot goes up and you don't know if it goes in or not, but you hear crowd noise so you are left guessing what happened.  Then a whistle will blow and it takes him 10 seconds to sort out what is going on.  Does he not know the game and how to identify the calls?

Q, you are Steve Stone working with Harry.  God bless ya.  If you could just throw in, "For all you youngsters out there..." every now and then it'd be perfect!   I'm listening to D3hoops.com this weekend and I hate to say it because I think Bob Quillman is one of the best color analysts I have ever heard at any level.  I have to be able to follow the games though and I've given WJBC's new guy too many chances.

Sorry to vent.  It was a rough Fri/Sat by the computer.   :-\

Yeah, I'm sure we listened to the same interview, and my impression was as much from tone of voice and what he DIDN'T say, as what he did.  While he stayed safely within 'coachspeak', I got the impression that he EXPECTS to win.

(If the "unless THEY screw up" implied that I was pitting him vs. his team, switch that to "unless WE screw up" - I certainly meant no such implication.)

But the feeling I came away with is that he is MUCH more confident about the weekend than 'coachspeak' would allow him to directly communicate.  Now it is possible that I am wrong - golly, that would be a first! ;D ;)

Augiedad - I think Jim Williams has come a long way over the course of this season.  He is no Art Kimball nor has he yet aquired Art's knowledge of IWU.  He does a decent job.  I've heard some improvement.  And, given some prior JBC 'broadcasters' I'll take Jim Williams.

I like Q as a play by play guy also; sometimes, better at play by play than color.

As to this weekend, you really had to have been there to see from where Q & Jim Williams had to broadcast this game.  WJBC was at the topp of the bleachers at mid-court in the midst of LU's fans.  I could tell you if the LU fans stood up most of the game in front of Jim and Bob but I can't because I could not see over the LU fans standing right next to the IWU section the entire game.

At the pace of both games this weekend particularly the UPS contest, in a lighting environment which needs improvement and both sets of officials blew the whistle then the entire gym waited for the actual call.  Some times the whistle blew then the officials had a conference before they made the actual call.

Ypsi, I can attest you've never been wrong.  Just over zealous.

Mr Ypsi - I sure would not read into anything based upon what any coach did not say; and, knowing Coach Trost I sure as heck would not read into anything Scott did not say. You went over board on this one I think.

It's a foul and he did it so aggressively I feel he made 15 fouls per game this weekend.  Called once.   :o

Yeah, and basketball is supposed to be a non-contact sport!  :D  Another "foul" that supposed to be called is the "arm bar".  That never gets called either.  So it goes.

PostUPS

I don't have a lot of time in my busy life to read these posts but have been watching it the last few days and decided to register just to post a comment on the seating situation this past weekend.

Due to the size of the gym the seating arrangements were not the best.  But given the amount of room available in the bleachers at the end of the court there was no need for IWU fans to sit in the UPS section.  When many of us arrived an hour before the game Saturday night there was a large group of IWU fans that had already seated themselves right in our section.  Of course we asked to have them moved to the open bleachers under the basket.  We didn't come 2,000 miles through two plane flights each way to be seated between IWU fans.  If the end bleachers had been full then I would understand the argument... but even so we still had many IWU fans in our section while there was ample room for them in the other bleachers.  Some even covered their IWU shirts just to be able to stay and cheer around us.  I guess having a sideline seat was more important than displaying support for your team... much less respecting the other team's fans.  If we had been playing Lawrence in a full gym then I would understand not being able to have the section to ourselves... but those of you who stayed in our section were disrespectful and by 7:00pm the game was more important to us than your temper tantrums with the school officials.

Nonetheless I was very impressed with the IWU turnout on Saturday and (aside from the ones who made a big fuss out of respecting our section) met some wonderful people.  Given the fact that we had to come seven times as far as the IWU fans did I was also proud of our turnout.  I understand the radio station in Bloomington put out the call and many responded by driving up to Appleton.  I think that is great and your team certainly deserves the support.  Most of you are a great example of what makes D3 basketball so wonderful and it was wise of ESPN to pick you up for their story.

I thought both teams played their hearts out and I am proud of our team for the way they played.  UPS was right in the game up to the last few minutes and if anything I feel the West Coast schools deserve more respect then many on here seem to give us credit for.  Puget Sound is just the top entry of some very competitive programs in the NWC and SCIAC.  It could have gone either way in the end and I think any one of the four teams in Appleton would have been strong contenders in Salem.

Best of luck to the Titans in the finals and when the sectionals are back in Tacoma again we will be sure to provide you with your own section - as you would deserve for making such a long trip to support your team.

Now THAT must be why I voted for you for student body president (even in the years you didn't run)!

Obviously you know him better than I do - I just got a 'feel' that he fully expects that the tourney is their's to lose.  Despite the testimonial from iwu70, I may be wrong!

Go Titans - don't make me look like a bigger idiot than I undoubtedly am! ;D

You mean it's not a contact sport?  That would explain the funny looks I used to get when I put on my basketball helmet, basketball shoulder pads and basketball cleats.  Out east we believe every sport is a contact sport, including ping pong and badmitten sp.  You should check out our Oktoberfest lawn darts tournament.   :D
