Northeastern is really going nuts rooting for their guy.

He's really, really, really good.  I played against him in Puerto Rico when he was on their Junior National team.

I'm waiting for the outcry on Anthony Simmons being Third-Team All Region.
If basketball was played within 20 feet of your own basket and you were on offense the whole game, he's an All-American, but the court is 94-feet and one team does not have the ball the whole game.  Also, if this is voted on by SID's, I'm glad to see that they see what I have seen for three years.  Amazing talent, unbelievable athleticism, but garbage attitude and quite easily the biggest whinner in the league.  I swear he thinks every call is going against him.
Congrats to Rick, Adam, Chris, Keelan, Zach, Anthony and Tony. Furthur validation that the CCIW is the top dog in the nation.
Speaking of whinning (though I don't think Trost is that bad), the IWU fans, now thats another story.
When Trost came back to the CCIW a few years back, I knew that IWU-EC games would be as entertaining as ever to watch.  I can still remember seeing Trost that first time after Coach Whitesell left Elmhurst following the 1991-92 season.  What a fiery guy, right then and their I knew how important and competitive this CCIW conference was (as I was 10 at the time).
Speaking of CCIW coaches, anything in the rumor mill?

IWU's D3 tourney record vs. VA teams is 2-1:

IWU beat Roanoke 116-88 (70-23 at half) on Roanoke's court in 1996.

IWU beat Bridgewater 87-60 at Shirk in 1997 after which the Bridgewater coach was quoted in the local paper: "I knew we were coming to IL but I didn't know we were playing the damn Bulls."

Hampden-Sydney beat IWU 76-68 at Randolph-Macon in 2003.

The rivalry between IWU and Elmhurst has been heating up for some time there is no doubt about that.  It is a good rivalry and how good was displayed at halftime between Augustana and IWU....all the Parents and players fro\m Elmhurst noticed it.

Whereas it always appeared that as soon as Trost could break from the traditional handshake after the end of the game, he would...that is if he went fully through the line or not, stopping only for the obligatory handshake between coaches, head quickly for the locker room.

At the CCIW tourney, Elmhurst and IWU shared the same locker room, and as the IWU players came out of the dressing room for the second half, Scott Trost walked over to Chris Martin, who in the past 4 or 5 years has not been Trost's most favorite player to say the least, extended his hand and gave Chris some compliments of his competitiveness and play in the CCIW , and most likely against IWU.  (That is an assumption because I was not close enough to hear.)  That was followed by Dauksas who followed with a hand and some comments, obviously out of respect.

All the Parents were amazed at the two rivals coming together at the end of the season.  No Parents were close enough to hear the coversation, but obviously saw the gesture of respect between coach and player, and two of our finer players in this league.

It says a lot about these individuals, about IWU, and about our conference in that when all is said and done, we have some class acts in our region, both coaches and players.  We can fight and fuss like hell, moan and gritch about the play of one payer on another, but in the end we are still a part of something bigger in the CCIW.   And although our slip (meaning our pride) shows quite a lot, and there is no worse an enemy than someone from another conference team, it is, in its own way, family.....and after kissing the blarney stone.....a good family it is!

Best wishes to the Titans on St. Patricks Day...the day of the Green.  Those of us back in the CCIW will wear the Green in honor of our standard bearer, this time for something other than to prevent the pain of a pinch!  Go Titans!

iwu70

bluemom, we love you.

Let's hope all the green will be smiling on Friday and Saturday.

Mr. Ypsi

How could the Green possibly lose on St. Patty's Day?!

(Just hope we don't have a 'hangover' Saturday!) ;D

Those of us who are contrarians and wear orange always thinks green will lose on St. Patricks day.

Fortunately, our opponents on Friday are navy blue and silver!  In fact, no one in the FF sports orange.  Haven't checked the colors of all the tourney teams, but you 'orange contrarians' may have been drummed out once Hope lost! ;D

For anyone wishing to regain Christmas spirit, you may want to wish for a Witt-IWU finish - Witt is red, IWU is Green, and both have white as their other color!

I trust this information is accurate as shown on www.cstv.com concerning D3 Men's Final Four:

Just learned that ONLY the 3/18 Championship game will be on tv, carried live by CSTV (a CBS company) and known as
College Sports TV.  The game schedule shows the time to be 5 p.m. (EST).
So, if you have DirectTV with the Sports Package you should be able to get the game!  Or find someone that does!
Therefore, GO TITANS, and get in the finals by winning Friday!

Remember, there is a Penn Atlantic video/audio stream for both Friday games and the Saturday consolation game...Penn Atlantic is the company that did the very successful CCIW streams this year.  They will take the D3hoops.com audio.  A great chance for people to watch the games.  I believe they are even video streaming the Hoopsville pregame shows, so ladies, you'll get to see Division III heartthrob Dave McHugh.

The final will also be on CSTV on Dish Network at 5:00 on Saturday.  I'll watch that but listen to the Titan broadcast.

We hope to accommodate, Jim.

Mr. Ypsi

Q,

I assume you and WJBC (see, I'm trainable!) will be broadcasting both IWU games from Salem.  Will you (or WJBC by a different feed) also be broadcasting the other games?

No, Jim and I will just handle the IWU games.  D3hoops.com has 'em all, so regular WJBC listeners should make sure to switch over for the others.

Mr. Ypsi

Q,

Thanks.  I don't know how WJBK got stuck in my brain, but I'll try to exorcise it!

Trying to flash-back nearly 40 years, that just somehow sounded right - was there ever a WJBK in the area?  Or was that just a 'senior moment'? ;)
